Good art is about inspiring emotions in people. And I think we all feel very strongly about this latest sequence of images. I tip my hat to the artist.

Generally speaking, good art is recognized by provoking the emotions the creator intended to provoke. If the mere ability to provoke any type of emotion is all that is needed, then Michael Bay is the greatest film director to ever live, and the Star Wars sequels are unequivocally the best Star Wars movies ever made.

    Update

Time and space is bendable, all you have to do is inspect the ground for a second, and a huge sign will appear right next to you.

Any theories about where and when they are?

I think it's very considerate of them to place signs in places without roads.

Also, the language barrier doesn't matter much if they have no idea what their destination is supposed to be.

Not sure why everyone is so afraid of Maltak.
What, do you fear it will stop the fast pace of a plot we had so far?

We're still basically in a plot of Snout looking for his favorite author since about 2-3 weeks ago, with a brilliant strategy of going to random directions and waiting for clues to (sometimes literally) fall on his head, just so he can ignore the clues and go to a random direction again.

New Maltak will be so slow we go into negative plot pace.

Anyway, all of this elaborated design, terrain change, giant status and jelly fish were just a portal to Maltak, and it was intended to be one from the start?

Is it an impression, or did Mookie lose the feeling for giving a direction to the story while writing Star Power?

I mean, Star Power had 5-issue volumes, but, other than that, the story didn't really have a direction (we don't have an overarching quest or menace, or even theme) and, even within the volumes, it sometimes felt like different plots were actually competing with and undercutting each other (I think of the slow Dr Hymn arc with a rushed ending and a few plots that didn't need each other). Some plots also were nonsensical or forgot to provide a challenge.

Now we have no direction at all. Dialogue can be used as glue to tie together different scenes in a meaningful way; here it's being deliberately omitted. Plot by fiat trumps character action, but it isn't really plot, as much as gimmicks for moving between scenes.

Wait, weren't Ink Witch and Orc Guy taken by the other ink witches? Now they're flying freely around in the witch's ship?

Wasn't this whole journey about Snout finding them? But they could have flown to him with no trouble?! WHAT WAS THE POINT? AAAAAAAAAAAAA-

I mean, the note flat out SAYS their magic doesnt work right in the wild edge. Snout had to leave the area before they could directly contact him. This was probably the best way for him to leave the wild edge and be close enough to contact him. They also may have escaped and want to meet back up with snout, we will find out eventually I suppose.

They were plenty able to contact him through dreams, though. Why not tell him they're ok, where they are, why they made him go through the portal? Hell, since they directed him to the portal, it means they knew where he was.

Plus the witch's flying ship seemed to work fine in the Wild Edge, as we saw in the first chapter.

Yes, through vague and uncertain dreams they were able to pass on just enough info to get him out of the wild edge. This seems more direct like, "We called you an ink uber, we will talk when we are face to face and not nekkid" And was that the time when she was half dead because of whatever the heck was going on there? Honestly, i think you guys are ragging on it a bit too hard here. Its a reasonable and rational chain of events. Especially for mookie

    1) They cant reach him effectively in the wild edge because magic works wonky there
    2) They are able to send him just enough info in dreams to show him where to go because dream visions are difficult to setup and hold a conversation with
    3) He is out of the wild edge so they can find him more directly now

Its not perfect, but its hardly utter nonsense like you implied.

Not asking for a lot, even just "just so you'll know, we're fine, they let us go".

That's the most natural way a conversation between actual people will go, and it sure gets a higher priority than looking for DD.

Yes, and its a one way communication that was stretched out over several nights before he could transmit the information needed. Thats not exactly EFFICIENT communication, now is it? Its literally text messaging only the other side has a busted keyboard and cant reply very easily. Also you only can send 250 characters a night. Yeah, no reason they couldnt just stick with that instead. Thats way better than meeting up in person. We dont know whats going on yet. For all we know the ink coven is after snout and getting him out of the wild edge was the only way they could protect him. Maybe they still need to be rescued and trying to sneak out messages that reach that far is really really hard. Maybe its a trap. Maybe its a test. Maybe we should wait to see whats going on before declaring it all stupid and pointless.

Look, I get it. the comic isnt very good. Everyone reading it knew that would be the case as soon as they heard about it because its freaking mookie. But this part isnt that terrible. There are many logical reasons in universe that things are playing out this way. It just remains to be seen which way mook runs this.

    It's the ink witch!
    Entirely unsurprising, I know.

Also, Snout is way too happy about being able to look under her dress.

Now im wondering if the existence of this other woman will cause issues. From the simple, "This is a two person craft" to the more complicated "And WHO is this?!" silliness. On the plus side, we might get to learn more about her with someone who can hear and relay messages.

Best case scenario: Ink witch knew where they were, so maybe she also knew about the existence of the woman and this can be covered in just a page of them talking and updating each other.

Worst case scenario: This is what was planned from the start for vine lady, and the trio misunderstanding each other for awhile is the reason for the chapter's title ("The Language Barrier")

Could have been worse: At least Vine lady is not naked.

As for logistics, this kind of looks like a one person craft anyway, so I'm counting on more travel montages (maybe less insane this time?)

    Seems like you called it.
More of a "What is she?" though.

Okay, so magical human-murder weed hybrids mess with teleportation.
    Fair enough.
