Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
The fluid did not write itself, it required a caster to shape it (regardless if it was the witch the ship's AI or someone inside the ship)
As for how magic works, I hope you are not expecting a solid and consistent magic system.
The purpose was to give us a certain visual image, and the rules might change on a whim to provide a different image later.
Regardless of the rules of magic, it's smarter to place the ink on the cloth and not instead of cloths.

Update
For anyone who is worried, Snout still has hisdirect link to the readers to fill in the gaps they might have in a comic without dialogbeloved diary.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
The very first thing we see of Snout is him sewing the "deaf" patch onto his shirt, implying that this will be important. Then he loses his shirt a few pages later, and it doesn't look like he'll be getting it back. This isn't actually a big deal, but it serves as a perfect microcosm of how Mookie doesn't even understand the basics of storytelling. He used the one and only first impression he had with his main character for base level exposition and nothing more. This could have been used to craft an image of who Snout his and how he thinks, but nope. The only purpose it served was to clumsily deliver exposition, and now that said exposition is done, the patch just disappears from the story instead of being in any way important. It didn't even have any effect on the story before it literally flew away forever. And the worst part is that this isn't even the fun kind of bad. It's just dull.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
*wakes up*
WHAT?! It's been two hundred years since Dominic Deegan?! If only they had mentioned this before!
It's a bit petty to complain, but does Snout really need to glance at the same words every 5 pages? There's nothing to puzzle out and, as one of the few bits of text in this comic, it should be firmly emplaced in the reader's mind.
Conveniently, if you select the Chapter from the Archive link, it queues up 12 or so pages on a screen. This means I just need to check in once a month to see if the story has progressed. So far, I think we're still on the initial question... if only I could remember what it was!Lead Designer for Oracle Hunter GamesToday a Blog, Tomorrow a Business!

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Now that I think about it, it can be a lot more than 200 years.
It's been 200 years according to the page in the book, but when was the book written?

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
I don't doubt that for a second.
the "two hundred years ago" is meant for us, the readers, so we will get the time frame right.
I just wonder if anywhere in future the date of the book will even be brought up, or if all character will just assume it was two hundred years ago from the current time.
Even something as simple as a geek character who will say something like "well ACTUALLY, it's 210 years ago, since the book was written in 5467, so..."

Who the heck puts an "order subject to change" note in their personal diary? Does he really feel the need to remind himself that he doesn't have to do things in a specific order?

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
A better question would be, why is looking for information or the witch even on the list?
Dude, you just lost your house, I think it takes priority over a random page that hit you in the face!
And how are you going to find the witch? Wonder around randomly until you find her? (actually, that might work...)
And what are you going to do when you find her, exchange insurance information? Call the police on her?
Why looking for her is even in the list?

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Because she is the reason he has that scrap of paper about dominic deegan I think. For whatever reason he is really interested in that. Also, he might want to find her because she DID just get grabbed by a ship that destroyed his house. She may be in trouble and he feels responsible for pointing her out to the ship, even if thats what she asked him to do.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Ah, I see. The plot will be entirely advanced by random scraps of paper literally falling from the sky and happening to land right near Snout. Maybe that's why he's the main character: he has the superpower of plot convenience.

Well yeah, but the entry is "look for more clues" not "Solve the entire mystery" And he found another bit of information.

You know, this could be a final page. I don't expect it to be, but it would make sense.

Update
Aside from the obvious remark about coincidences, I have a question:
What kind
of book
has only
two words
per line?
It does
not sound
very effect-
ive.
Maybe the author of the book made money per page he wrote, and found a loophole he can make the font HUGE for easy money?

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Y'know, I dug into The Archives to pull up some good ol' Dominic Deegan cosmology when I realized nobody has ever talked about "realms" in-world. For what it's worth, there are only ten planes... not counting the distant one Klo Tark comes from.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
I, for one, m fully satisfied by this resolution of this sub-plot and hope that at no point in Snout's continuing adventures do we see a return of anything concerning Dominic Deegan.
It's hopefully also a wrap for the subplot about the ink witch and Dr Eggman's spaceship.Hark! An avatar drawn by Kate Beaton!

Today's comic.
Maybe he is doing an Erfworld and has a never ending prologue.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Question: what is he writing with and how does it work?
I'm not sure what the instrument is here, but it's clearly a paint brush here. And where is he getting the ink?!
Since this is the Wild Edge (tm), I'm sure the answer is "a penbug and a self-inking brushtail" but these are precisely the sort of questions that kept me interested in original flavor DD. I probably should have noted earlier that setting this whole story in the Wild Edge (tm) permits Mookie to use "magic is just magic" to explain any and all things that happenLead Designer for Oracle Hunter GamesToday a Blog, Tomorrow a Business!

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Well. So far the comic has been average. Not outstanding compared to the great works.
But readable enough. And certainly in no way deserving the snark it gets.
Like this.
I'm not sure what the instrument is here, but it's clearly a paint brush here. And where is he getting the ink?!
If he had spend time explaning where the ink came from, people would be bitching and moaning about the pacing.
Mookie truely cant win.thnx to Starwoof for the fine avatar

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
So far what I see is a comic with the same basic flaws as his other works.
Mainly, points he wants to show without a solid story to link between them (see what I wrote on an earlier post here to elaborate on that)
The wild zone gives Mookie an excuse to keep the same style, but that's all it is - an excuse.
So yes, people WILL nitpick (and usually they will say it's not a very important criticism when they do), but what else is there to comment?
There is a limit to how many times we can summarize a strip with "more random stuff happened", and it doesn't seem like the need to do so will end any time soon.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Well. But i dont think being unable to say anything positive, makes it any more fair to say something negative when its undeserved.
I also dont think the story is as bad as you make it sound.
Yes its kinda casual, and so far mainly follows the everyday life of our protagonist. But that doesnt mean its bad.thnx to Starwoof for the fine avatar
