If I knew a person had fundamentally altered the very fabric of reality I would want to know what they did and why. Seems like it might be important. I imagine the people interested have many reasons, some are scholars who just want to know, some want to reverse it so magic reigns supreme again, others want to know how to do it themselves to hold over the world as its biggest nuke.

Why do Ink Witches not tell each other their names? This is a serious question, not a snipe or sarcastic jab. We have been told that Ink Witches are the "knowledge for all" group, so keeping secrets runs totally contrary to their stated goal. The only way this works is if the Ink Witches are deliberately intended to be hypocrites as a showing that the entire organization is corrupt to the core, but that clearly isn't the case. On this very page, we're told that "Redacted" is a bad apple currently in the process of ruining the bunch, meaning that they are not yet tainted. So, I guess they're just hypocrites for the hell of it.

I am tempted to think this is Mookie's attempt at justifying why Ink Witch hasn't been named despite travelling with Snout for weeks.

On the other hand, it may just be incoherent worldbuilding as you pointed out. It wouldn't be surprising either way.

Also, bravo Mookie! Yet another shining example of "tell, don't show" - it's a real luck comics are a media best known for being absolutely unsuitable for demonstrating characterisation through visuals.

Ink Witches giving up their names would make more sense.
As is this is a stupid reason.
    Just name the girl(s*) already.

    Snout's face though...
    Are you [beep]ing kidding me?
The answer's no. The DM author's absolutely serious about this world building.

*At least Vine Lady has the excuse that there was no one who could've named her.
Well Snout could've picked something to call her in his diary, but considering he never asked... Thalia's name I doubt he cares.
    You know what?
    That's her name now.
    Thalia the ink witch.
And Vine Girl is Flora now.
Much shorter and easier to type.

Of course not. Tourism information is obviously vastly more important.
They get paid for that one.

Also, if the escape were interesting it'd've been onscreen.
They probably said ”Look! A distraction!” and walked off in the other direction.

    New comic

And we interrupt the pointless trivia dump for a bath scene.
You can still see way too much for my taste...
Not to mention that it advances the story even less.

Okay, I'll admit this was moderately amusing.
Silly overreaction- and the “immediatly make a note in the diary” thing's still dumb -but amusing.

    At the same time, What.
Why is there a „Please wait to be served“ sign in Awkward's house?
Does it double as a restaurant?

Also, so much for the ”language barrier“.
If some random waitress can cast a translation spell there can't be much of a problem.

Judging from the amount of food? Maybe.

Like every other "problem" in this comic, it is resolved in a few pages and in the most anticlimactic way possible so that we can focus on what truly matters: Snout's inner dialogue!

I think the implication is that they both slept terribly, probably tormented by bad dreams, which were possibly a result of Snout. This is quite possibly the first page of the story with actually competent writing, from both dramatic and comedic standpoint. My only complaint is that Snout's new "deaf" tag seems to have disappeared. And the art is still bad.

    1) If Vine Lady was screaming all night, why didn't Snout hear it?

    2) If Ink Witch and Armoire were planning on going back to sleep, why were they drinking what appears to be coffee?

    3) Why did they even bother staying awake long enough to give Snout the message personally when they could have just left a note?

    1)Really?
    He had earplugs.

    2) It's actually eeffoc and helps them sleep.

About giving the message, it's possible that they didn't want to leave her unsupervised. The servant probably already has her own things to look after.

I liked these last pages. Things stick together, and details are significant in a way that doesn't come inexplicably out of the blue. Maybe the woman has been having seizures every night, and Snout never noticed.

Are you only just now noticing that this comic isnt running on threat to the world level drama? Its literally just an academic interest and the odd things that happen along the way. We have FINALLY gotten some info that suggests it could LEAD to high stakes drama, but for now its just a guy doing a research project without internet access so he has to go from library to library in person to read up on it.

I'm not asking for constant threats against Snout's life. I just want something to happen that isn't trivial or immediately solved. I want genuine stakes, no matter how high or low they may be. Something is better than nothing, and right now, we're getting nothing.

I know, but this IS drama, just low end stuff like a lot of the drama surrounding his search for info. Remember him having to earn money in mongreltown to buy a book he wanted to read? That was an actual ARC of this comic. Most of the life threatening stuff ends up being more comedic than anything because its like a jump scare and automatic escape. Now the drama is, he has access to some of the books he was after but no way to read them. Much like ink witch doing magical readings for cash, this is likely a simple issue to solve, but with mookie it will be drawn out in a slapstick manner of "theres a hole in the bucket dear herbert" where each solution leads to a problem that has to be solved before they can use it. Its just how the comic works. Its pretty much how it has always worked.

I mean, all he has to do is wait a few hours until Ink Witch and Orc Dude get back.
Maybe go look for the waitress and ask if she can help and then wait a few hours.
    A dictionary might work too.
So I expect him to accidentally re-enact the Library of Alexandria instead..

I respectfully disagree. A "problem" that is only a problem because the character that can solve it is in the other room napping is not a real problem. Having to wait a couple hours is, at best, a mild inconvenience. I face more adversity and challenge when I grocery shop.

Do you like to do your grocery shopping in the night, and thus have to time your shopping against the ridiculous standards of these people who only work during daytimes?
