Default The Batman: Hush we DIDN'T want. RIP Kevin Conroy.

Apparently it is going to be one of those days. Kevin Conroy has passed away after a battle with cancer. He's certainly the longest running and most prolific Batman, and plenty would argue the best one as well.

For those not familiar, he's been the primary voice of Batman for most of the animation, starting with Batman: The Animated Series. And knowing him there will probably be several more performances coming that have already been voiced.

Aw damn, I didn't even know he was sick. Granted, I don't often pay attention to the personal lives of celebrities, even my favorite ones, but this one is kind of a blow. Guess now's as good a time as any to get around to watching BTAS.

Kevin Conroy was THE Batman. Others have done a good job in the role but no one’s voice so embodied the character.

This is a major blow and totally unexpected. I’m devastated by this news. RIP.

Heartbreaking. He's the Batman for a lot of 90s kid who loved the Timmverse more than any other adaptation of DC.

I don't even consume much English speaking Batman media and it is sad to see someone so beloved go, and to cancer of all things. A disease I lost and am losing family family to. That combined with Batman's tragic overarching story and themes of fighting against insanity (Joker and own issues), questions (questioning themselves, the Riddler) or family (Alfred, his step children) make this all the more bitter. Since these are topics many people ask themselves, not only in the face of terminal illness, people who question their purpose in life, what they want their inheritance for the world to be. And to be inspiring greatness in future generations is certainly a good change one's presence had on the world.

Your long vigil has an end, Kevin.

This indeed brought me pause. Been watching him portray my ideal Batman since fifth grade, faithfully catching each weekday and weekend episode that aired. Anyome remember when Fox aired episodes on Sunday nights for awhile, only calling it Batman: The Series? I sure do!

Looking forward to introducing it, Superman, JL, and Beyond to my kids!

I first watched Batman TAS when I was five years old. Kevin Conroy introduced me to the world of superhero entertainment. I grew up alongside TAS, Beyond, and Justice League alike, and any other animated portrayal has always paled in comparison for me.

Conroy was irreplaceable as a serious Batman. He always will be.

If any of you Conroy fans want a really good comic to read he made a short autobiographical comic about how he got to voice batman and what it was like being a gay actor in the 90's. Damn good read.
