Also, Windigos showed up for the villain's at the end of the final season, but that didn't seem to hamper the ponies with snowstorms. Final battle was on a nice sunny day.

All in all the movie is alright and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend it to non-pony fans as it doesn't feel noteworthy enough to stand out from everything else, but for pony fans it's worth watching. It provides a decent starting point for G5. The jokes are decent, a few kind of fall flat, but most of them got a chuckle out of me and the overall plot and vibes I get from the film are what I'm looking for in a new MLP generation. The songs are good as well, though none of them had quite the emotional impact of Rainbow by Sia or Open up your eyes from the G4 film, but maybe that's not a fair comparison.

Noteworthy scenes are when Izzy reveals that she received the drawing Sunny sent up with the lantern, which is what motivated her to go to Maretime Bay, and when they chaotically juggle queen Haven's crystal as they try to steal it whilst Pipp Petals is going her coronation song and dance. Those were particularly nice touches.

I feel like some things could have used a bit more lead up and fleshing out. It feels like they tried to put too many things in too short a time span. I think they could have dropped a couple of things, add another half hour and use that to focus a bit more on some developments and characters to add more depth. For example: Sprout clearly has some issues with feeling second best compared to Hitch, but it is only shown superficially. He's basically the final villain, so he deserved a more detailed look. Another example is the the three tribes getting together a bit too easily. The movie would have benefited from portraying this as a more difficult struggle, so that both the separation of the three pony tribes and their reconciliation would have more emotional impact.

The G5 movie has the kind of vibe I'm looking for, so I'm definitely still interested in the G5 series when it starts. Anyone else got around to the G5 movie yet?

It was nice that they didn't make any solid connections to G4, allowing this movie to stand on its own four legs and not get tied to G4 canon (other than it existed in some unspecified long ago era). Sunny is a peach and totally my favorite of the bunch with her determined attitude and that precious grin. Although, I probably connect more to her dad given his goofy jokes and playful silliness. Speaking of, did pops know he had the Earth pony crystal? That seems like an important thing to not just turn into a crafts project for your child. Well, maybe it was deliberate on his part, thinking Sunny would figure it out on her own when she's of age to actually go adventure, but dang, pops, leave her a note! XD

I'm pretty sure Izzy is the reincarnation of Pinkie Pie. Hitch was a decently written stallion. I think the pegasus sisters got the least development, but there's only so much one could cram into this movie. Like Form said above, probably could of been tweaked a bit to better use the time, but still a good film. I had fun watching it. Lots of cute little culture jokes like Judgement Neigh, Just Prance...

...oh, and it did answer one question I've had since G4: can an earth pony become an alicorn? Well, now we know!

Something a friend and I discussed is that it feels like Hasbro still doesn't know to do with earth pony magic. Because when magic comes back, the earth ponies don't get anything out of it, and I noticed some people missed the after-credits scene hinting that earth ponies are getting something. Guess it's just forever a series missed opportunity.

On a different subject, I realized something during my continuing rewatch of FiM. When King Sombra shattered the Elements of Harmony, this was actually the second time they had been destroyed, the first being when Nightmare Moon did so back in S1. The difference being that, when it happened the first time, Twilight explained that destroying the physical elements was meaningless since the spirits of the elements were present in her and her friends. So, why the hay didn't Twilight just reprise that speech to King Sombra and rainbow laser him into the ground? (Aside from the fact that then we wouldn't have had a second part of the two-parter)

I do like that she's an artist. It's a perfect outlet for all that energy. And yes, she can be clever. Her disguises were pretty darn good and she instructed everyone pretty well on how to "be unicorn".(it's a good song to boot)

Yes yes all my YES!! This has always been my main beef with G4.

The unicorn crystal is a horn, the pegasus crystal is a pair of wings, and the earth pony crystal is... a circle? What's that supposed to represent? That is possible, but the issue is that the movie really doesn't give us any context to make that guess certain or not. Unicorn and pegasus crystals are clear on what their magic is, based on the shapes of the crystals.

Earth ponies having a circle could mean a lot of things; the world, the moon, circle of life? All we have is a hint from a filly's hoofprints glowing at the end, but again--vague. What is earth pony magic in G5?

Now, I will say that I did like that earth ponies aren't aware they ever lost magic. Their society is arguably the most well off of the three, though I am a little sad they don't go into a little bit more detail about this. Like, everyone should be asking the question: if earth ponies have a crystal too, then what is the magic that they are missing? What could the earth ponies do now with magic that they could not do before magic came back?

The movie simply does not say. We'll have to wait for the show to see if there is an answer.
