I use braces (also known as "curly brackets") to indicate sarcasm. If there are none present, I probably believe what I am saying; should it turn out to be inaccurate trivia, please tell me rather than trying to play along with an apparent joke I don't know I'm making.

I actually like the theme music intro and outro of DC Titans. Very Techno.

My personal experience agrees with Tvtyrant, teenage/very eary 20's type Romantic passion just never manifested again, sadly and thankfully, 'tis better to be sober than the kind of manic joy followed by suicidal depression of that time.

Well, today is my mother birthday. She would have been 71 years old today. She passed away in 2012. I'm not as sad as I used to be but still, I missed her.

As of yesterday evening. I have now watched every televised Doctor Who story, from series 1 in 2005 to the 1996 TV movie including the missing episodes’ reconstructions.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
I live near an old-fashioned downtown area with lots of little shops, and walk by them frequently. There's one particular block I think of as "poorly-thought-out impulse purchases designed to target me, specifically, central" because it contains a hobby shop window with an amazing model train set-up (and also rockets! and model planes! and project kits! and...(the RPG/board game shop is on a different street that I only walk by on purpose, thankfully)), a music shop with a variety of tempting instruments in the window (for a long time it was a purple ukulele in one window and a lovely dulcimer in the other that I mostly kept an eye on), and a pizza place with really good wood fired pizza and a decent selection of beer.
I should really just cross the street rather than walk down that side of the block.
Anyway, the music shop just got in a set of banjo ukes and they're now sitting in the window. I'm not sure whether I'm trying to talk myself into one or out of one, but I'm certainly talking to myself ABOUT one...(It would be so easy to take with me places! Only 4 strings to tune! Probably fits in a carry-on on the train! Comes in pretty colors! Wikipedia says there are two different common tunings, so maybe I need two so I don't have to retune! I could color-code them by tuning since they come in colors anyway! Counterargument: I don't have time to practice all of the instruments I have now...)
They also have a reasonably-priced folding travel instrument stand, and I'll probably go in and buy that if it's still there later this week, as well as see if they sell the headphones I've been meaning to buy. (I've gotten terrible customer service at the larger music store I used to go to for things like recording equipment, so I need to find a new place to buy that stuff. This store never has that kind of stuff in the window, but so far I've always been buying acoustic-instrument-related things there and haven't really looked to see what kind of recording, mixing, and amplification stuff they have. I vaguely remember seeing soundboards and amps in another part of the store, so I should scout that out more carefully.)

At the gym today for the first time in months, and uh...
I'm pretty sure I lost every gain I made since this time last year.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
My weight actually went down since Easter; no, I was referring to muscle strength/definition and overall fitness. I'm back up from 9-10 minute miles to 12-13 again and I'm giving out faster on similar weights. On the positive side, I remember how good it felt to notice that these workouts were doing something for my health, so I know I just need to keep at it.
I just count myself lucky that being mom's errand boy to this extent will only last until she can drive again and that i don't need to provide for her financially.Hate me if you want. But that's your issue to fix, not mine.

Finally got to sanding my dining table. I was supposed to paint the first coat today, but realised that it's a rather hard task to perform with just the small brush I have. I'll be taking a few pics of the process.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
Sorry
A year ago I did a mile in 13:19 and have been pushing myself to get less than that for every run. My record's 9:16, but I was more regularly doing 10-11 minute miles.
Frustratingly I was *gaining* weight during this period.
Knowing that I not only can but have done it before is a great motivator.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
You mean in term of episodes? Don't make me choose... It's really hard to say as the show likes to experiment quite a lot. I mean, in The Lodger it turned into a sitcom without missing a beat and that was awesome.
I really liked the whole U.N.I.T Era (Three's first three seasons) when it turned into an ensemble show with a regular cast and introduced the Master as a recurring (and I do mean recurring) villain.
So, some great episodes would be:
The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Daleks' Master Plan, The Evil of the Daleks, the Tomb of the Cybermen, The War Games, The Three Doctors, Frontier in Space, Planet of the Spiders*, Genesis of the Daleks, Pyramids of Mars (if only for the glory that is Sutekh the Destroyer), The Deadly Assassin, The Pirate Planet, The Armageddon Factor (these last two are part of the Key to Time Arc who spanned all of season 16 and was quite good), The Keeper of Traken, The Five Doctors, Resurection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani, Remembrance of the Daleks (continuity-heavy), Survival, Dalek, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances ("Are you my mommy?"), Boom Town, Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks, Human Nature/The Family of Blood, Blink Utopia/The Sound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords, Midnight, Victory of the Daleks (come on, the New Paradigm Daleks didn't look that bad), Vincent and the Doctor (I cry every time), The Doctor's Wife, Asylum of the Daleks, Nightmare in Silver (fight me), the Time of the Doctor, Into the Dalek, Robots of Sherwood, Listen, The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar, Heaven Sent, The Husbands of river Song, Extremis (seriously that episode deserved way better sequels) and World Enough and Time/The Doctor Falls.
Some of them I watched a long time ago so my recollection might be a bit blurred and I deliberately did not include any Thirteenth Doctor episode because I want to see her full run before. In bold, each Doctor's best episode.
Favorite Doctor: Peter Capaldi's 12th, not always the best scripts but the Doctor that shows the most the complexity and depth of the character.
Least Favorit Doctor: Colin Baker's Sixth, sorry Mr Baker but you got screwed over big time. I hear the character gets a better treatment in Big Finish.
*I first typed Planet of the Daleks here which besides being the most statistically likely name of a Doctor Who episode is actually a pretty run-of-the mill Third Doctor episode.Last edited by Fyraltari; 2019-09-09 at 05:19 PM.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
The new paradigm Daleks didn't look bad, no. I actually liked them. But they never do anything to justify their existence/difference from the other Daleks. It's implied that they're "purer" and "better", with clear distinctions meant to imply specialization... which gets REALLY distracting when they don't actually have any clear differences to make any of them stand out beyond the color and size in comparison to the other Daleks.
Also the Doctor defeats a Supreme off-screen so he can steal information from its data core on another villain entirely which is so baffling when they're supposed to be one of the biggest threats in the universe and one of the few things that legitimately horrifies the Doctor.
Also also the resolution to that episode would've worked better as a Cyberman plot.Last edited by HalfTangible; 2019-09-09 at 04:35 PM.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
The New Paradigm didn't do anything of note because the fan backlash over their design was so intense. As for the difference with the Time-War Daleks... They're Daleks, they will split into various factions over the tiniest difference while accusing each of other of, in the words of Ace, "not being pure in their blobbiness".
The Doctor kind of eats Daleks for breakfast, though. Nine and Ten were horrified by them because the Time War was still fresh in their memory but Eleven, being older, is far more casual than that.
EDIT: It's true that the whole "emotion wins the day" is the Cybermen's whole thing but the daleks have never shyed (shied?) away from eotion-removal and forced robotizations themselves. Funny thing, according to 12 stating that the cybermen appear wherever people get desparate enough to cut themselves up and be put in machines as a convergent evolution phenomenon, then that makes the Daleks an anomalous Cybermen strain.Last edited by Fyraltari; 2019-09-09 at 04:51 PM.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
I think Genesis of the Daleks is one of my favourite serials, but I struggle to explain why. A lot of it has to do with the bleak setting that actually makes the Dalek's origins make sense, and building on the conflict seen in the first ever Dalek story and then mainly sidelined.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
At one time I walked a 1 hour mile - you read right, and it is not a typo, 1 mile per hour - and that was with a cane. I am now at a 20 minute mile with a cane. I was at a 20 minute mile without, but had a few setbacks in April.
I am jealous of your 12 minute mile
I woke from a medically induced coma with virtually no glute muscle left - very long horrific event - and I was in just the opposite situation. I am use to having "quite a large cushion".
After waking, part of the recovery is sitting on a hard seat chair, and I had to do so without my "natural cushion" not fun.

Just wrapped up a phone interview for a job and I have to admit, I'm kind of nervous. Felt like some of the questions caught me flat-footed and I rambled a bit answering them. Ain't nothin' to do but wait, of course, but I've got a bad feeling that I might not be hearing back.

I'm envious, I've seen a few other Doctors (and even met Patrick Troughton) most of the episodes I've seen were Pertwee (the first I saw) and Baker, and I have hardly seen any post '89 episodes at all, and only a few when the new Doctor Who was all too briefly on broadcast television.
Agreed Genesis of the Daleks was some of the best television I've watched.

Re: SZbNAhL's Similarly Sibilant (if unpronouncable) Random Banter #223
Don't you love it when the pretty girls at work sounds really happy to see you and look delighted. I just hate enforced attitudes, it jessy makes it that much harder to work out how people feel about me, and I already have trouble. Like, I get it from a customer facing level, but if we didn't have to keep up it between ourselves I'd have a better idea of if anybody liked me.
On that note, why do people insist on shortening names? I've never referred to myself by a diminutive, my name tag explicitly has my full name (although I rarely wear it, seeing as I work in the kitchen), and I've even specifically requested my full name before. But apparently three syllables is too much for people these days.
