Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver felt a wave of excitement wash through him - the plan had worked! The Scrubs had walked right past them and now they were going to die. His eyes caught sight of Daphni, crying over Dumbi's body and he felt a surge of guilt. Gulping, he gripped his two daggers tightly and rushed out at a nearby body. He attacked wildly, the two-bladed technique clearly beyond his abilities. But for now, that was what he could do ... hopefully he'd get better one day.
Besides, it kept his mind off that image of Daphni and Dumbi ...
Awww, I feel back now! But Weaver will continue to fight ... Trying to flank and two-weapon fight. Add +2 attack if he can flank w/someone else.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
The Deku Scrubs barely even know what's hit them!
The Deku Scrub with the spear takes Nippi's fireball directly in the small of its back, but the other Deku Scrub just manages to avoid the worst of it getting just mildly singed. Meanwhile Koli snaps at Daphni but in her enthusiasm the Deku scrub just barely manages to fend her off.
Daphni doesn't hear Zippo step up behind her. "Terribly sorry about this!" he says, running her through with his sword just above the small of her back. She collapses on top of Dumbi without a sound.
At the back of the combat Nemi steps out and slams the trailing Deku Scrub against the passage wall with two brutal strikes! It also collapses to the passageway floor. Weaver steps past Nemi to attack the Deku Scrub that avoided the worst of Nippi's fireball but in his haste to close the distance his strikes go wide.
So sudden is their total defeat that the two remaining Deku scrubs offer no resistance, prostrating themselves at your feet and begging for mercy!
<EEEEK! Please don't kill us masters!>
"They've surrendered!" Navi exclaims from the sidelines no longer needing to hide. "What are we going to do with them?"

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver felt a felt sick, watching Daphni fall on top of Dumbi. All around him, the Scrubs fell, cut down like so much wheat. His own swings were half-hearted, missing wildly. He didn’t want to fight any more - he just wanted to go back home. The hero tales never talked about this part of it - the death ... the smell ... the stillness...
When the last two Scrubs surrender, Weaver was relieved. He stepped forward quickly, raising his hands. ”We accept! I mean, uh, yeah ... you better, or, um, or else. So throw down, Ah, your weapons and, um, tie each other up. And we’ll, Ah, tue you up, too!
Let’s, ah, take ‘em in the other room. Yeah, the room!” Weaver started waving the two prisoners to the other room away from Decci, averting his eyes as they passed Daphni and Dumbi.
Figure we tie them up and ask ‘em questions. But Weaver is going to need a moment. This is getting too real ...

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nemi didn't understand what the deku shrubs were saying as she didn't speak their language, but it was clear they stopped fighting and Weaver said something back. She stopped as well, but stayed ready in case it was a trap or something.
She looked at Daphni and Dumbi. She wasn't sure what she said either, but she had seen the emotion on Daphni's face. Maybe there was more to Deku shrubs than she had thought before.
"At least they are now back together in the afterlife," she said to Weaver, "so, what is going on with these? What did they say?"Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchett

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
"They begged not to be killed and Weaver accepted their surrender," Navi translates for Nemi as she flies over to examine the bodies.
<Wait... you're... not... going to kill us?> the Deku Scrub with the fewest injuries asks, sounding genuinely surprised to be spared.
<We though you were going to kill us for sure!> the one that used to have the spear adds.
<Just like Dumbi and Daphni and Dwebbie,> the first one says bitterly as they meekly hold out their arms for binding.
<We don't have any rope.> the second one adds.
"Hey! Listen! I think these two are still breathing!" Navi calls out! The two conscious Deku Scrubs throw themselves to the floor again, not understanding and fearing the worst.
"Ho! Not there!" Zippo corrects them, lifting them up one scrub in each hand! "You will do somebody a trip! Let's just go back to the cavern where there's lots of space, yes?"
The Deku Scrubs don't understand at all! They look completely intimidated and too scared to object as Zippo handles them back to the previous chamber.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nippi takes a minute to calm down himself and his very eager dog. A lot of face-licking is involved. Afterward, sensing Weaver's distress, he tries to do the same for his friend (with unpracticed psychological therapy in place of face-licking). "Weaver? Wee? Hey, they're just Scrubs, you know. They're pests invading the Great Deku Tree and thinking they have a right to be here. C'mon! You had the courage to do, like, ten amazing things already today, and now you're gonna let some big planty moon-eyes trip you up? The Great Deku Tree is counting on you, and He chose you because He knows you've got what it takes! Chin up and back straight, guy!"
Jogging to catch up with Zippo, Nippi suggests, "Let them go down the ladder into that, um, culvert thing, and then they can hand it up to us. I bet they won't get out any time soon. And then we can use the ladder to get across the water when we go visit 'Queenie'!"

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nemi went to Navi to check up on the two Deku Scrubs that were apparently still alive. She checked and if needed, tried to stabilize them.
"Ask them about the layout of the tunnels and locations ahead," she said to Zippo and Weaver, who seemed to have the others in hand, "and about the enemies we can encounter. So we know what's coming."
She looked at the two Deku Scrubs.
"These two are still breathing," she said, "anybody has any idea on how to make them stop leaking like they are now?"
Spoiler: OOC rolls
heal check to see if they are already stable (given the amount of time, I would say Dumbi is otherwise he would have bled out long ago) and to stabilize them if not.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver felt a little relieved when a couple of the Scrubs were still alive. He nodded absently to Nippi and Nemi, helping Zippo march the Scrubs back to the water room, given them the sign for ‘Shhhh!’ Once there, he pulled out some rope and began to tie them together, letting Navi help with the interrogation questions. Only near the end did he finally speak up.
<”We don’t want to kill you all, but we don’t want you running around our Tree either. If you lot stay, we’re ... ah ... we’re gonna deal with you. Hard!”> Weaver scrunched up his face real mean like, trying to scare the Scrubs. He pointed at Zippo and said, <”And if you don’t leave ... well, that one, he’ll uh ... uh ... he’ll eat you!
So tell us what you know about the way ahead right now ... and all about Decci ... and Queenie ... and the skulltulas ... and, ah, whatever else you can think of. And be quick ... cuz he’s, um, hungry!”>

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver pats down his pack and soon realises he's left his rope attached at the top of the shaft the party descended half an hour ago! No matter, there are a few flexible roots protruding from the broken passageway walls. They're not as good as actual rope, but... yeah, they'll do. A search of all four scrubs turns up just two wooden shortspears. They packed light!
None of you really know much about healing, but together you muddle through. Dwebbi is just badly beaten up. Zippo holds her down whilst Nemi straps up a few broken ribs and wraps a nasty head wound. For Daphni Navi assembles a compress of leaves which Weaver holds against the entrance and exit wounds until the sap stops oozing out.
With the two unconscious scrubs patched up, Zippo carries them back to the culvert whilst the other two walk and Navi questions them. They are positively talkative in return! Questioned about the layout of the tunnels ahead:
<There isn't really much further! There's the room where we have our camp with the river through it, and then it's Queenie's lair!>
<We don't go there! Only Decci goes in there!>
<She doesn't like visitors.>
About enemies to encounter:
<Well there's Decci and Demetri...>
<And two of Queenie's children...>
<And, I guess, Queenie herself...>
<Demetri and likes to fight with the nuts of our people.
<Pitched battle doesn't really suit us. We prefer to be sneaky and ambush our enemies!>
<Ironic!>
<But Demetri will fight with a spear if he has to.>
<And Queenie's children like to pounce on their prey!>
<Decci is dangerous! He has a strong armour and a sharp sword! And powerful magic!>
About Decci:
<A while back Decci started getting visions he said were from a new god!>
<A god called Queen Gohma!>
<He proved it! She granted him his magic power! Power over plants and bugs!>
<She told him he had to come here and raise Queenie's children.>
<He asked us to come and help him! He said in return there'd be lots of sap to eat in this dying tree!>
<And there is, but it's cold and dark this far from the sun, and he'd been acting high and mighty ever since we got here, as if being Queenie's prophet makes him better than the rest of us!>
<He's been a bit of a jerknut about the whole thing really!>
About Queenie:
<We don't really know much about Queenie...>
<She lives beyond the door in our camp.>
<Only Decci goes in there! Every so often he brings out one of her eggs for us to raise.>
<He calls her a god of dark and shadow...>
About the Skulltulas:
<The skulltulas?>
<They're just pests!>
<They like to live in dead trees...>
Anything else?
<Please don't kill Demettri!>
<We didn't know what we were getting into!>
The Deku Scrubs flinch back from Weaver's scary face! They seem pretty convinced Zippo will actually eat them. This is probably helped by Zippo playing along by copying Weaver's scary face! They're much quieter as you lead them back down into the culvert and make them pass the ladder back up. You leave them huddled on the broken water wheel, trying to keep out of the wet.
As the party heads back towards the chamber with the Deku Scrub camp, Navi prompts the party for a plan.
"So how should we do this?

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
"Simple, Navi," Nippi says with a brash tone. "Zippo and Nemi and Koli will -- yes, girl, that's right, you did hear your name! you're a good girl! -- will go to where the hallway opens up and get ready to stab anything that comes close, an' me and Weaver will stand behind and shoot at Decci! If he hangs back, he'll just get full of arrows and bruises, and if he comes up it'll be five against one! Or maybe two, cuz they said one other Scrub stayed behind, Demetri or whatever. But really outnumbered, anyway." Nippi seems very pleased with his battle plan and doesn't seem to be considering options other than fighting.
"Oh, and just in case, we should have the ladder behind us, if we need to cross the river or reach something high up."

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver blushed at forgetting his rope, but fortunately the roots around here worked well. He listened to the Scrubs spill their seeds on everything, giving him a lot to think about. He was scratching his chin in thought when Nippi announced a battle plan.
“Well, um, that could work ... if Decci isn’t very smart. But, ah, he’s super smart ... and knows magic ... and is a good fighter. If he can, um, really control plants and animals and stuff, he could, um ... make the grass and roots grab us. Yeah, yeah, that’s bad!
So how do we , um, keep his magic from hurting us? And avoid those jumpers? What if we, ah, snuck in? Or, um, created a distraction? Or trick em into this room?”
just some ideas

"Hey, if we can get the gohmas to zoom over here while Decci hangs back to do spells, so much th' better. Split 'em up and beat 'em up! And maybe the gohmas will get caught in tangling roots too -- that would help us a lot!"
Spoiler: question for DMJumping gohmas could indeed be a problem. Related to that ... how high is the ceiling in the passageway, and how much vertical clearance did the jumpers seem to need? Tunnel might be an even better plan, if it keeps them from using their best tactic on us.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
"Yeah, sneak up and then rush them! That sounds good to me!" Zippo agrees.
And so you take the ladder from the culvert room with only minor grumbling from the captured Deku Scrubs, and lug it through various passageways deeper into the earth beneath the Great Deku Tree. You must be some 350-400ft beneath the surface by the time you arrive at the Deku Scrubs' camp! The party sneaks up to the entrance of the chamber, ready to spring their surprise attack, some of you getting a good view for the first time.
The chamber is roughly D shaped, with your passageway emerging from the middle of the curve of the D. The room is roughly 25ft in height, a little lower around the curved edges. Directly opposite you is another one of the barred doors with an eye switch set in a diamond-shaped frame above it. As well as having an intricately painted pupil and iris, carefully lacquered to recreate the shine of a real eyeball, this time the diamond-shaped frame is painted GOLD as well. From south to north an underground river flows rapidly (about 20ft/round), entering via a 15ft high waterfall from an opening in the southern wall, splashing noisily into a small plunge-pool. At the northern edge of the chamber the river accelerates, disappearing into a void in the floor to an unknown depth below. The river is probably about 5ft deep in its middle. Long waist-length grass carpets the chamber, except for the sandy shores of the river and a 10ft-wide path west-east across the chamber to the door on the other side where the long grass has been frequently trampled. Four torches light the room, and you can also see five Deku Flowers - durable large ground-hugging flowers that Deku Scrubs grow for the woody underground root-sacs they use as houses and sleeping chambers.
The party is all ready to sneak into the high grass and attack! Except...
"Um... where are they?" Navi asks. There's no sign of the foe.

Not one in the middle in case there are a bunch of hiding gohmas ... the one over there?" He points to the south end of the chamber near the splashing waterfall, then has to restrain Koli as she starts to go where he's pointing.

Weaver felt a twinge of concern as he gazed across the room and didn't see any of the enemies. It was entirely possible they had gone through the door, as Nemi had suggested. Or they were lying in wait ... as Weaver feared. He was quiet, nodding distractedly at Nippi's suggestion. He held up a finger for the group to wait a moment as he and any other good sneakers slipped into the room. First, he scanned the room, glancing up at the ceiling, then letting his relaxed gaze sweep across the room as he watched for subtle, 'unnatural' movements. Then he listened for the sounds of breathing, trying to hear over the waterfall and rushing water. Finally, he glanced down to check for any traps. After he was satisfied he didn't see anything, Weaver quietly moved into the room, hugging the wall curving to his right towards the south. He moved slowly, pausing occasionally to listen for sounds of anything else. He headed towards the torch first, then would head to the sandy path, stopping there before exiting the tall grass ... all the while keeping close to the wall.
Before he left, he whispered, “So, um, stay quiet, yeah? And, uh, try to be not seen ... and see if there's, um, magic around, just in case ...”

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
You advance cautiously, aware this is probably a trap.
Nemi creeps forward, open to the possibility the Deku Scrubs have retreated through the door opposite, but taking a good look at the deku flowers in the centre of the room just in case. Weaver creeps around the southern perimeter of the room, slinking through the long grass to try and inspect the southern deku flower and listen by the waterfall whilst Nippi and Koli follow a little further back.
None of you can hear anything obvious above the sounds of the waterfall, and Zippo lugs the ladder forward to span the river. As it touches the other bank Nemi sees the deku flower next to the contact flinch. For a moment you almost question whether you even saw anything, but then you spot eyes peaking out at you from the base of the flower where a Deku Scrub is hiding in the subterranean root chamber.
<Eek! We've been spotted!> it squeaks.
"They're hiding in the deku flowers!" Navi calls the obvious now that your mutual cover is blown. "There, that one too!" she points out.
The southern deku flower rustles in response. Now you know what to look for these two flowers do look a bit leafier with Deku Scrubs hidden within, but you can't tell which scrub is which just yet. The Deku Scrubs pretty much have improved cover hidden in their flowers.
What do you do?

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nippi immediately pulls back on his bow, taking careful aim at the base of the farther Deku Flower. As he holds the string ready, he murmurs, "Boop over, girl," nudging Koli aside with his knee.
Spoiler: mechanicsI figure the squeaky afraid one ISN'T the dismissive jerknut in charge. I'm aiming at the southeast flower and readying an action to shoot. If a Scrub that might be Decci exits that flower, pa-TWANG! Might as well roll it, just in case:
Spoiler: pa-twang(d20+7)[26], (d8+2)[4] damage. Crit confirmation on a nat20 (d20+7)[26], (2d8+4)[16].
And 5-foot step into Koli's space as she moves a square south or southeast.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver peeks up briefly to see which Flowers are the ones with Scrubs. Ducking back down, he calls out, “Demetri! Decci! We know its you guys! We captured your friends - just surrender! You don't need to et conked on the head!” He kept his weapons handy as he called out, moving quietly to the side after he spoke so nothing could sneak up on him.
Trying to get through to these guys ...

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nippi gets Koli to boop over slightly, while taking aim with his bow from the edge of the long grass. If anything that looks like Decci appears they'll certainly regret it!
<Eek! They tortured our names from the others and conked them on the head!> the Scrub by the ladder squeaks, taking not entirely the wrong message from Weaver's setting of terms given how he had in fact conked Dumbi on the head. Apparently neither of the scrubs understand Nemi's reassurances at all!
<Then don't just sit there! Attack! Attack!> a voice that is unmistakably Decci's calls from the south-eastern Deku Flower.
Several things happen at once. Demetri pops up from his flower to spit a Deku Nut at Zippo! Zippo is surprised, but manages to deflect the nut with his shield! In response to this blatant attack Nemi returns fire! But her attack misses Demetri by some margin. Two Gohma Larvae appear from where they'd been hiding above the waterfall! They're walking on the ceiling! Apparently Gohma Larvae are very good at climbing! Nippi holds his fire waiting for Decci to appear, but he doesn't. Instead you can all hear strange mumblings from the south-eastern Deku Flower!
"He's casting a spell!" Navi realises, being fluent both Deku Scrub and arcane knowledge, though she can't identify what spell the party are about to be subjected to.
Zippo is taken completely off guard and barely reacts to the escalating mayhem. "Huh? Wha-?"
What do you do?

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
"Whooooah ..." Nippi is almost too amazed at the Gohmas' movement to remember to do something about them. Almost.
Spoiler: mechanicsIf I can catch both Gohmas in a Fiery Burst: (2d6)[6], Reflex DC 14 for half.
If I can't: shoot G4, (d20+7)[27], (d8+2)[10] damage (one of which is electrical). Crit on a nat20, (d20+7)[11] to confirm, (2d8+2)[10] more damage.

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Nemi decided not to get in the way of Zippo, but to already go to the other side. It was only a 10ft jump and she had done better back at home. So she tried to jump over the river and arriving at the other side, she gave Demetri a blow, taking care not to kill him.
Spoiler: OOC actions and rolls
move action to jump over the river. As I don't have a running jump, it's DC20: (1d20+14)[20]
hit Demetri with non-lethal damage (as monk I can switch without penalty): (1d20+6)[12] for (1d4+3)[4] nonlethal damage

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Weaver sighed as the fight quickly escalated. He tried to whisper to Nippi, “Um, can you use your ball of, ah, fire on that flower casting the spell?” But the flame was already headed somewhere else, so Weaver popped up to take a shot at the far larvae. Then he’d circle around to approach the ‘bridge’

Re: [D&D 3.5] RC's Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time IC
Zippo crosses the ladder! It's a little wobbly and the other end is defended by Demetri.
<Stay back! I won't let you by!> the Deku Scrub warns, menacing him with his spear, but Zippo can't understand, doesn't want to stop on the precarious ladder, and also doesn't want to be a blockage for anyone behind him and, so he pushes past!
<Eek! Then take this!> Demetri squeaks, striking Zippo precisely for 6 damage! Zippo nearly loses his footing from the blow but he manages to make the other bank! "Hoy! We'll have none of that!" Zippo retorts, striking at Demetri with his flail! but the obstruction of the Deku Flower prevents the blow from landing solidly and Demetri does not appear to be injured.
Planting his bow on the ground, Nippi takes aim at the closer Gohma and opens fire! It's a solid strike and the arrow buries itself up to its fletching! The Gohma is severely wounded but not dead yet.
Weaver also decides to shoot at the Gohmas, picking out the further target. It has no idea he's hiding in the grass, having entered the chamber after his calling out previously and a hard stone strikes it right in the centre of its oversize eyeball! The force of the shot dislodges it from the ceiling and it falls into the river, unmoving. Weaver then circles round to the base of the ladder.
Nemi leaps the river from a standing start! She flanks Demetri with Zippo and attempts to punch the Scrub, but the strike isn't good enough to bypass the defence of the Deku Flower.
The Gohma Nippi shot looks angry! Koli's a little bit in the way of direct retaliation, so it attacks Koli instead! Leaping from the ceiling to bludgeon the dog with the Gohma's hard head! But Koli's armour is proof against the massive force of the attack!
Meanwhile across the river Decci finishes casting his spell! Another Gohma materialises on the ceiling behind Nemi from a swirling cloud of dark smoke! It immediately leaps upon the unfortunate Kokiri! It slams into her hard, dealing 14 damage! Having cast that spell, Decci casts another! A ray of green twines its way past the party to detonate in a 40ft radius encompassing almost the whole battlefield! The plants in the room go wild! The grasses rise up, snaring, entwining, grasping! Riverweed erupts from the river, snaring the corpse of the dead Gohma and dragging it under the surface! The weeds continue to try and grasp anything they can, the entire area becoming difficult terrain and Demetri and the summoned Gohma are entangled and held fast!
<Eep!! What did you do that for!?!> Demetri shrieks as his own Deku Flower grabs him tight.
<Just hold them there while I summon more allies!> Decci calls from his own safe haven, apparently unconcerned by Demetri's plight.
<That's what I'm trying to do!> Demetri complains, striking at Nemi without much success.
What do you do?
