    Default Keosenes And His Troubles [IC]

    OOC Thread



    Haun is a moderate town. It's situated south of a larger city, but has a burgeoning set of mages. The most notable being Keosenes, known for his experiments and research.

    His laboratory was formerly a hut, on the outskirts of town. It's now closer to an underground bunker, partially due to Keosenes needing a layer of earth between him and stray ley lines, partially due to the residents of Haun telling him "Keep this stuff contained or you're going to get people killed." This is where you find yourselves now, just outside the entrance.

    Horace rapped firmly at the door, "Keosenes, some in the village said you needed help with some 'elemental beasties'. We are here to assist however we can." This wasn't precisely the sort of job Horace had in mind, but letting his experiments run free through the town wasn't exactly chivalrous either now was it?

    There's a muffled "Coming!" followed by a few crashing sounds. It's an uncomfortably long time before the door opens, revealing a thin man with bright, curious eyes. "Ah, hello!" he says. "I am Keosenes-you are?"

    Traveling around with Dragon and Shell as he mockingly called them, had been interesting. Their heightened sense of honor and worth was intriguing to Yrkoon. But at least they were better conversationist than Squeaks.

    Upon seeing the curious looking man Yrkoon makes formal introductions:

    We are but a group of adventurers, a colorful one, looking for sustenance by way of odd jobs. We were directed to this establishment.

    "Ah, right, right! Well, everything is-" he starts, before there's a loud thud from somewhere inside. "Not going the best at the moment. Er, come in, please-but keep your wits about you."

    He leads you in, where the rooms are lit by some sort of crystal inlay. There are no windows, you notice, as he leads you down some stairs. "I was experimenting with some elemental reagents, and, well, things got out of hand. There's some things loose-little prankster spirits bonded with the reagents. So be careful."

    As he warns you, you hear a faint muttering, and he slumps over to the ground, snoring. The rest of you soon feel magic wash over you, dropping to the ground in a peaceful slumber, with only Squeaks left standing.

    Isthen Gemwing always took care of his appearance.

    What was inside mattered more, of course, but people always judged by first impressions. And as a devotee of the Goddess of Wisdom, was it not wise for him to put his best foot forward? How could he lead by example if he didn't look like a leader?

    That was why his vestments were clean and his armor and scales polished, and that was no easy task after days of travel. But the extra effort was worthwhile if it made the townsfolk of Haun view them more favorably.

    ...well, his clothes weren't so pristine now that he was snoozing on the dusty floor of Keosenes' basement. Some days just weren't auspicious at all.

    Dodging the attack, Squeaks spends his turn kicking his companions awake. "Awaken! Now is no time for a nap, we are beset!"

    Squeaks takes a few more steps forward and grows to a large size, his body transforming itself.

    Coughing up what felt like a lungful of dust, the cleric of Athena pushed himself upright and smacked the snoozing knight on the shell.

    Two more spirits make themselves known. One of them blasts a gout of choking, blinding dust at your assemblage, while the other takes a swipe at the newly standing Isthen. The first one, intent on dealing with Squeaks, tries its luck again.

    If you're knocked out, you autofail, because you're unconscious. Which is just Yrkoon, I believe, and Keosenes. This DOES wake you up, at least. :)

    The spirit that Horace targets directly explodes into a shower of dust, some of it landing in Horace's face.
    The other nearby spirit takes a nasty jolt of fire, but is still up and about.

    Isthen coughed as he shielded his face from another gout of dust - the creatures seemed to love throwing it around, and he dearly wished they would stop. At least they weren't that good at actually hitting anyone - thank Athena for small mercies.

    Setting himself behind his shield, the cleric murmured a prayer to his goddess, and a brief flare of divine energy erupted around himself, Squeaks and Horace.

    "Now - strike again!" he commanded, and the energy pulsed across Horace a second time, lending further vigor to the tortle knight to finish off his foe.

    Horace follows the tactician's order swinging at the damaged foe. Then, regardless of the result, he strides over to the pair accosting Squeaks and takes a magical swing at them as well, "The creature seemed to take extra damage from my fire."
