First it come to Oddy a bit akwardly, but she seemed natural in it. Maybe she moved a bit more s sensual then the dance should have been, but it was matter of habit

One thing I love about GURPS over the last system I played FoE in is that here when you pull a grenade pin or the lever to arm a landmine, the explosives will actually *explode*.

Not here in this game. A previous game incident I had remembered this morning. My character was sitting up high above several killer robots and he armed six land mines, then dropped them on the robots. The GM interpretations of the demolition skill was that failing to make the check means the landmine is a dud. Same with grenades. And my success chances with demolitions was about 15% so I could probably ruin the entire demolition economy if I wanted to.

Well, from my irl exprience landmines are very unreliable.
Which is actually fine on the large scale of war.
They meant to make the enemy not to risk it, and either go from other route, or walk very carefully in.
Army will avoid it, even it only 15% of them will explode.
But it sound more like demoltation craft anyway.
Soldiers just place them. The skill for anti tank landmines, is not to jump on it too much. If it isn't too old, you actually can walk and sit on it.
Anti human landmines are diffrent issue, but are very rare.

    Grenades?... never met dud ones.

So I guess it was more realistic than I thought for landmines. But the opposite for grenades. Good info to know!

I remember an article about a beach that had landmines so it's off limits to people, but penguins live there and they are not heavy enough to set off the mines. The problem is that the mines are rusting and their explosives are becoming unstable. So there's a group trying to remove them, but it takes like 3-4 hours to disable each mine.

Well, boars sure love eat the powder of landmines.
We weren't allowed to use our phones, but as training we cleaned of an old landmine field, and there were... landmine with flowers which grew between it's cracks. It was pretty.

That actually makes sense. If it's the department I'm thinking, then I believe the American equivalent is the Army Corps of Engineers.

Animals can find certain chemicals tasty. I've read that antifreeze liquid tastes sweet to animals, but it will cause kidney failure and the animals will die in hours without medical attention.

That does sound pretty. There is an entire category of photography art dedicated to nature growing over old war sites, absorbing things like derelict tanks and buildings.

I don't argue that it is not dangerous and boring. Disposing of explosives is always dangerous. We have a training facility for that near the airport. I remember being super stressed at the office on days they did testing.

The US Army Corps of Engineers does similar work to dispose of unexploded stuff like that. They probably would agree with you.

It's about challenge raring I guess.
Someone who trained in the same unit ss me, were sent to commander academy, and therr he has lost a hand.
(Which by the way had enhanced my belief in "bad eye" and stuff... he had a black humor , and he was a walking meme of unliuckiness, and he said he probably would lose a hand. Which.. he did. And not because he did something wrong the old angry thing just exploded a meter from him, without anyone touching it)
Also, a famouse commando dude from our corps, like Chuck noris kind of dude, has prostetic leg. The real one went away during...
    Training.
But he still win the military sport tournaments, because he doesn't give a damn.
And there are mook npcs like me.

I like those kind of settings. I made one of my own. Elves are the ruling class, with humans and dwarves more like the lowly farmer and laborer. But there are old maze-like vaults from centuries ago where people hid from something. I borrowed the idea of Horrors from the old system Earthdawn.
