Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
What do we know, if anything, about these ancient mapmakers? I assume they're some kind of xeno, so it's probably a good thing that they don't seem to have put down roots on our new planet. I'm sure Inquisitor Mathius would love that skeleton, if Macharius wants to try talking Jonell into handing it over. As well as samples of the lesser beasts we catch. Mathius doesn't seem like he meddles quite as much as some Inquisitors, so I think we could benefit from increasing our ties to him (and Macharius seemed to really like him).

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
IIRC the map we found was of human manufacture, just very old tech. So it stands to reason the mapmakers were human as well.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
That's correct. The mapmakers were human, even Imperial. They were just around a really long time ago, and were part of an Explorator fleet at the time.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Well ancient human can mean Dark Age of Technology. I don't think we have confirmation either way yet.
The Inquisitor didn't seem like a massive puritan as you'd think he'd be more open about that if he was. Having him as a contact just in case is probably a good idea.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Ahhh, interesting. In that case, I don't know if we should tell, well, anyone. =P The Ecclesiarchy might consider our cool map heretical, and the Mechanicus might consider it their property.
I still like Mathius, though. He seemed like a cool guy in your previous adventures, and I'm open to seeing him again. He talked about opening up an office on our formerly-frozen planet, didn't he? So I assume he's around."It was a GOOD plan, just completely impossible."

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Anika knows plenty:
Viatrames is a desert world, located in the Heathen Stars region of the Expanse. It was founded by the Rogue Trader Roodmar Urussalin, and has been without official owner since that dynasty's end at the hands of Orks. It's still registered as owned by the Urussalin lineage, and the Administratum refuses to transfer registered ownership without proof of sale signed by an Urussalin. Since there are no living Urussalins, the planet can't be transferred to a new owner for legal exploitation. With nobody allowed to legally profit from it, it has been steadily devolving from prosperous colony to lawless wasteland, as the supply of external goods dried up, and there has been no influx of people for over a hundred years.
The planet is split into warring factions, and most of the tech is maintained by the remants of the original Mechanicus contingent. The main settlement on the planet, where the Mechanicus remnants are based, is named Beacon City, and is generally agreed to be neutral territory by the other factions. There is no dedicated spaceport, and no orbital defenses to speak of. Much of the wasteland is filled with dangerous predators, and the planet has very little of any genuine value.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
I mean, my section of notes for when I was plotting this idea says "Mad Max Planet" at the top. Make of that what you will.
Also, while scheming to take it over is all well and good, and I do encourage it, keep in mind that you're on a time limit. The initial contact here is intended to be a quick trip, give you the feel for the planet, and so on. If you still want it, maybe Winterscale's party will be a good networking opportunity. You don't really have time to add a trip to Calixis and back on top of the trip out to Viatrames.Last edited by Destro_Yersul; 2019-10-29 at 07:52 PM.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Ok, just checking. Is there anything anyone particularly wants to look at on the colony before I move things along? You have a little time due to repairs and component installations. Since the Acquisition test for repairs failed after getting the Sting fixed, you'll need to use Extended repairs if you want to do anything to the Fury or the Talon.
After that, I think I'll need Echo to do some Navigation rolls. I'm going to use the Core rules for Navigating the warp, rather than Navis Primer, for the purposes of simplicity and not bogging things down too hard. Just do all five rolls, and I'll sort it out.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

If Felidae had a few drinks, she'd likely convince herself that a fist fight against the electro-rams would be a splendid idea. Otherwise .. nah, I don't think so =)

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Hannabel is quite done with the planet for now. If there's time she'd really like to see some extended repairs done to the Fury before we set off again. Don't want a badly damaged escort flying with us if possible. While we're away, hopefully some progress can also be made on repairing the Talon.

If we're doing extended repairs Anika will probably explore the surrounding countryside to take advantage of being on the ground again, but I have nothing specific at the moment.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Echo will have about two-dozen of his Average-size stasis-cages moved down to the colony and set a generous bounty on live Blue Caernun to get the ball rolling there. Hopefully there are some stun or tranquilizer weapons to be found. Unless Jonell already has beast trainers among his crew, I may try to hire some of those on Viatrames. Do I need to roll for any of this?

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Attempting to capture beasties is a survival test. The colonists don't have any dart guns, webbers, or stun weapons, but would be able to use nets and traps. Here's a roll for them: (1d100)[93]. Jonell doesn't have any beast trainers. You could try to hire some, but you should wait until you get there.
Ravia should do the roll for Extended Repairs, if you want to do that. You have two weeks.
Macharius should do a Commerce test to pick up supplies and trade goods. If he does really well, you might earn some extra profit/AP from trading. He should also do a COmmand roll, if you want to upgrade the Station at all.
Still need some Navigation rolls for Echo.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Determining the Duration of Passage: Navigation (Warp) (76) (1d100)[35]
Locating the Astronomican: Awareness (Ordinary +10) (74) (1d100)[84]
Charting the Course: Perception (Ordinary +10) (64) (1d100)[75]
Steering the Vessel: Navigation (Warp) (76, plus or minus depending on Step 2) (1d100)[18]
Leaving the Warp: Perception (Hard -20) (34) (1d100)[14]
The core rules say I'm supposed to roll for Warp Encounters too, but I don't know how long we'll be at "sea," and in any case, I personally feel like you should roll (or just choose) the encounter(s), yeah? The Navis Primer might be of use here; even if the rules are too complex, it at least has more options to pick from."It was a GOOD plan, just completely impossible."

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
Ok, how much does the Fury repair: (2d5)[6]
With your rerolls, that's a very good set of travel checks. Let's see... Base travel time out there is about 8 weeks. Your Drive cuts that in half, to 4 weeks. Then you got a giant pile of DoS on steering, which drops duration to 25%. Either way, it's 1 week now. That's two rolls on Encounters. Insert secret rolls here.I do LP's sometimes! Re: Sea of Stars - OOC II
That can happen, and if it does the Ordo Chronos will be very annoyed. If they exist and can be found, anyways.
Update is now up. I've left it to you how you want to go about contacting and approaching the planet. It can be assumed that you made a stopover somewhere to acquire any trade goods that couldn't be had from Port Davis.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

With no real central authority, low technology (at least, currently in use by the locals), and no agents on the ground to help us make a respectful connection, I think we should aim for shock and awe. Land forcefully--if not aggressively--and in great numbers to establish that we're not to be trifled with.
