I for one, would love if someone is around that a) can bless the Valkyrie machine spirit so it doesn’t get grumpy and randomly crash, and b) can keep the Grav chutes happy as well

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
That sounds about right Etherion.
Also, everyone, I did mention you can choose what roll goes to what stat.
But if course if you use the re-roll to re-roll a stat, you keep the re-rolled stat, for better or for worse.Awesome avatars:

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
Imperial Guard Techpriests also tends to be more pragmatic over theologically-minded. It's sort of a functional way to exile the lackluster elements without it being actual exile. Kinda like how the Inquisition paws off the failed Storm Trooper Recruits to the Imperial Guard. It's like, what... only a low percentage of 'successful stormtroopers' that ends up part of the Tempestus Scion. any below margin results are dumped on the Imperial Guard.... Still elite soldiers with superior skills and training, but they are not Inquisition Army worthy.
PS: that is highly secretive information that can get you shot/turned into a servitor to even speculate out lo-*blam!*Last edited by Hemnon; 2019-11-07 at 02:37 AM.

Spoiler
Independent Operation: Frontier worlders are more accustomed to working far from others than many of their counterparts in other regiments. Their activities on their home planet often call for them to range far and wide, often alone, and as a result they develop a sense of confidence in this solace. On the battlefield, this frequently translates into a willingness to strike out beyond the sight of allies, confident that their compatriots will react swiftly to danger. The Comrades of a frontier world character count as being within Cohesion so long as they are within 15 metres of their Player Character.
Distrustful of Authority: Though they are valued for their ability to act independently, frontier worlders can also be difficult to control thanks to this tendency. This can be particularly problematic for newly raised regiments placed under the command of officers from outside, or for regiments merged with others after suffering losses. However, with time and patience, this friction can be overcome by outsiders who prove that they can stand on their own and contribute to the regiment. Frontier world characters tend to distrust outsiders, especially those handing out orders. They suffer a –20 penalty to Interaction Skill Tests made to interact with unfamiliar figures of authority (such as new Commissars, officers from other regiments, senior members of the Ecclesiarchy and Adeptus Mechanicus, and other such individuals) and impose the same penalty on Interaction Skill Tests made on them by those people. These penalties can be waived at the GM’s discretion, if the frontier world characters are dealing with individuals who have earned their trust.
Well-Provisioned: The regiment increases the number of clips for their main ranged weapon and the number of weeks’ rations they carry as standard by +2, and gain an additional grenade of each type in their standard kit (if applicable). If the regiment contains vehicles, this also grants a +10 bonus on all Logistics tests to obtain fuel and parts for repairing and maintaining those vehicles.
Scarred by Loss: This regiment has suffered extreme casualty rates in recent memory, and a large portion of its active troopers are survivors of terrible battles that caused its numbers to dwindle dangerously low. Even if it has been reinforced by a new founding or by being combined with another understrength regiment, the physical and mental scars of the losses remain in its troopers. Soldiers from such regiments often find themselves irritable, distracted from sleep and war alike by memories unbidden.
Mental Trauma: Members of this regiment begin play with 1d10 Insanity Points. Any time that a member of this regiment fails a Willpower-based Test by three or more Degrees of Failure, he becomes lost in traumatic recollection, and is Stunned until the end of his next Turn.

Background
Spoiler
Curtis "Eyes" Lagwellian was born to a common family of farmers on Paradyne, and as a young child he always enjoyed climbing the mountains and gliding from one to another. He and his older brother would regularly compete in races to see who could make it down the mountain (or even glide into the nearby town) fastest.
As he came to age, and the dire prospect of being cut off from the Imperium if the planet could not make its tithe came to light, he signed up to join the 3rd Paradynian regiment. His older brother would inherit the farm and continue to strive toward making that part of the tithe, so it was the best he could do for his homeworld and his family's safety and continued protection by the Imperium.
He got his nickname while on patrol, having spotted an ambush that his platoon was about to walk into and shouting the warning just in time for his comrades to defend against it. Unfortunately, due to improper maintenance his grenade launcher failed to fire and he was forced to rely on his lasgun for that engagement. Ever since (particularly after a strong cursing out by his sergeant) he has been obsessive about the upkeep of his equipment and can be found in most of his spare time performing maintenance rites as specified in the Infantryman's Handbook.
Since the horrors of the regiment's unfortunate experience in space, his obsession as become even more pronounced. It seems that he takes comfort in the familiarity of maintaining his equipment.

A bit of a twitchy fellow, Lex seems always to be looking off in a different direction as though he's expecting there to be something (but there usually isn't). He's rarely seen without a lhostick stuck between his lips--except, of course, when near a commissar or an officer.

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
So, with my layout of stats (I know I could swap them around, but I don’t mind the layout), I’m thinking either sergeant or priest? Mostly cause chainswords sound fun. Thoughts?

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
what are you interested in specifically? I lost my whole bookcollection from a hardrive crash a while back and currently only got the Only War Books.
My initial answer is no, they are not allowed.
But I'd like to hear what it is you're specifically looking for and why. and are we talking Dark Heresy 1e? cuz that is something I can instantly say no way to. if we talk 2e Dark Heresy, then it's a possibly-maybe.Awesome avatars:

Ok, Curtis is done--except for his backstory.
Figure I'll wait on other submissions to see if any of us want to craft a backstory where we've already been fighting together or not.

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
Both books are 1E and as to the reasion for the book of jugement was access to cyber constructs like for example Subrique pattern Grapplehawks and cyber mastiffs and the other has a lot of little goodies for the teckpriest. like this for the backgrounds
The Divine Light of Sollex. and what it does
Spoiler: what it doesHome World: Forge World.
Cost: 300 xp
The weapon-mystics of the Cult of Sollex form a sect of the Adeptus Mechanicus based on the minor forge world of Haddrak in the Drusus Marches. The sect has expanded beyond its world of origin enjoying adherents among the Magos Militant of the Lathes and the tech-priests assigned to Battlefleet Calixis. The Sollex are a warlike sect who study the art of destruction and specialise in the occult mysteries of photon and laser, finding divine wisdom in a fractured spectrum of light. Aside from producing particularly powerful and advanced weapons and holo systems, the work of Sollex is reputed to have been put to more esoteric and hidden ends, and their secrets are well-guarded, even compared to the rest of the Cult Mechanicus. A Sollex tech-priest may have been selected for Inquisitorial service owing to an above average experience of warfare, arms and hostile contact with the alien. They often seem even more inhuman than their fellows, far more fanatical and militant in their adherence to the mystical dogma of the Cult Mechanicus, and utterly unforgiving of those who blaspheme
against the Machine God.
Effects
Apply all of the following changes to your character:
Characteristics: Reduce starting Fellowship by –5.
Skills: You start the game with Ciphers (Secret Society—Sollex) (Int), Common Lore (Machine Cult) (Int), Demolition (Int), and Scholastic Lore (Tactica Imperialis) (Int). You also gain a +10 bonus on all Tech-Use Tests made when working on or with laser or holo devices.
Talents: You gain Hatred (Tech-heretics) and Unshakable Faith.
Insanity Points: You begin play with 1d5 Insanity Points.

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
Your 'companion' as a Psyker is more or less a Guardian meant to keep OTHERS safe. there's literally a Comrade Talent that allows you to take a diceroll of damage which will stop a perils of the warp roll for happening, if I recall correctly. Kinda like the commissar version of a Black Ship Guardian with a goading rod ready, if not even an actual boltpistol ready to blow them psyker-brains all over the carpet if **** gets out of control

Talents
Spoiler
Weapons training
Chain, las, low tech
Ambidextrous:
SpoilerThis Talent does not represent true ambidexterity so much as sufficient training with both hands to make the distinction moot. The character may use either hand equally well for any task, and does not suffer the –20 penalty for actions using their off hand.
Special: When combined with Two-Weapon Wielder Talent, the penalty for making attacks with both weapons in the same Turn drops to –10.
Catfall:
SpoilerGymnastic ability and natural balance enables the character to fall great distances without harm. The character automatically reduces the distance of all falls by a number of metres equal to his Agility Bonus, ignoring this distance as if it did not exist. In addition, the character adds +20 to their Acrobatics Skill Tests when using the Jump Special Skill Use as it pertains to reducing Damage from falling.
Deadeye shot:
SpoilerThe character’s rock-steady hand and hawk-like eyesight make him a dreaded marksman. No target, however agile or small, can escape his crosshairs. When making a Called Shot (see page 244) ranged attack, the character reduces the penalty by 10 (so a –20 becomes a –10 instead).
Die hard:
SpoilerThrough either willpower or sheer stubbornness, the character refuses to die. When he suffers from blood loss, he may roll twice to avoid death.
Iron Discipline:
SpoilerIron sharpens iron. The character does not coddle his squadmates nor motivate them through kindness. The character’s stalwart example and stern leadership exhorts them with steel instead of praise. If the Player Character fails a Fear or Pinning Test, his Comrade only fails if the roll was a double
Quick draw:
SpoilerThe character has practised so frequently with his weapons that they practically leap into his hands in response to a simple thought. The character can draw and ready a weapon as a Free Action when the character is armed with a Pistol or Basic class ranged weapon, or a melee weapon that can be wielded in one hand.

Grim, named such on account of the smile that never leaves his face, was a very enthusiastic member of the Paradyne Planetary Defense Force. One of the men responsible for training soldiers to use their parachutes and gliders, he was quite fond of saying he would never let his troops down. Only gravity would do that. Always one to try and make everyone laugh, when it was announced that there would be a founding his officers were very keen to be rid of his puns. And so, in light of his leadership experience, Grim was made a sergeant and shipped off to war.

Life on the Verge: While frontier worlders are sometimes less refined that members of other regiments, their skills in the field are undeniably useful. Frontier world characters gain the Combat Sense or Quick Draw Talent (Included in Starting Talents).
They suffer a –20 penalty to Interaction Skill Tests made to interact with unfamiliar figures of authority (such as new Commissars, officers from other regiments. Senior members of the Ecclesiarchy and Adeptus Mechanicus, and other such individuals) and impose the same penalty on Interaction Skill Tests made on them by those people.
Scarred by Loss
This regiment has suffered extreme casualty rates in
recent memory, and a large portion of its active troopers
are survivors of terrible battles that caused its numbers to
dwindle dangerously low. Even if it has been reinforced by
a new founding or by being combined with another understrength
regiment, the physical and mental scars of the
losses remain in its troopers. Soldiers from such regiments
often find themselves irritable, distracted from sleep and war
alike by memories unbidden.
Mental Trauma: Members of this regiment begin play with 1d10 Insanity Points. Any time that a member of this regiment fails a Willpower-based Test by three or more Degrees of Failure, he becomes lost in traumatic recollection, and is Stunned until the end of his next Turn.
---------------------------------------------------------
Icarus Pattern Gravchute
Wide Distribution: Logistics Tests to acquire this item gain a +10 bonus in addition to any
other modifiers.
Durable: Whenever this item would be badly damaged or destroyed, roll 1d10. On a result of 6 or
higher, it survives the event largely unscathed thanks to its rugged construction.
Forgotten Construction: Characters suffer a –30 on Tech-Use or other Skill Tests to repair this item
should it be broken or damaged.
This pattern of Gravchute belongs to a very old and sturdy pattern of Gravchutes that is relatively easy to manufacture due to the mostly-intact STC pattern used, however the intricate parts within the Gravchute is extreme hard to deal with since the knowledge of the inner workings for it has been lost. Luckily the rugged and durable design means that it is primarily easily-replacable outer-parts than can be swapped out without issue that gets damaged, even when hit with the explosive force of a frag missile.

Scissix Pattern Imperial Guard Flak Armor
Light Construction: Decrease the item’s weight by 1 kg (to a minimum of 0.5 kg).
Forgotten Construction: Characters suffer a –30 on Tech-Use or other Skill Tests to repair this item
should it be broken or damaged.
This pattern of Imperial Guard Flak Armor hails from a minor forgeworld called Scissix that was settled by the mechanicus after having found the fractured remains of an STC, and it's only recently (relatively speaking, think a few hundred years) that the STC has been re-assembled to a functional level. The surprising part is that the STC produces Flak Armor of the same model format as Imperial Guard Flak Armor, and due to the use of the production method that is wholey ill-understood even by the Forgeworld's Mechanicus leadership, it is very hard to deal with actual repairs of the Flak Armor itself outside the forges. The positive thing is however that the way the Flak Armor is created, ensures a more lightweight final product without any loss of protective capability.

Background
Spoiler
The son of a physician, Heinrich Mahler was trained by his mother to serve as medical assistant.
He volunteered for Imperial service, much to his parent's dismay, mainly to get out from under his mother's thumb. His informal training, augmented by his service training and prior drops, have left him nearly unflappable. Ironically, he is a stickler for rules and regulations, found with his nose in his uplifting primer and the regulations.

Re: Only War - Newbie Friendly
well lets see note to self find heavier armour and I am shocked that I don't have the Omnissian Axe. I have never seen a tech Priest without one. It is almost his part of his bag of office alone with his Rust red robes.
