    Default Traffic Blocked from dasHost.exe

I've been noticing quite a lot lately that my anti-virus keeps popping up with the notice that traffic has been blocked from dasHost.exe. Is this anything I should worry about, and any idea what's causing it? I am using Symantec Endpoint Protection, mostly because I got it for free and it hasn't caused any notable problems yet.

    Yes you should be worried.
dasHost.exe if it is genuine is a real Microsoft required for connectivity.
It is also a known spoofed file for viruses.
    See; https://www.file.net/process/dashost.exe.html

That link gives you some ways to determine if the file is suspicious and more info.

It appears that this version is located in my System32 folder, which appears to be the correct one. Should I add an exception for it in my firewall?

This is my preferred site for these kinds of questions.

So it's a legit process, but why does it need internet access? I haven't been able to find an answer to that. I have found a page claiming that yes, it really does need that access, but no explanation as to why, which pretty much sums up everything I find frustrating about this kind of research.

    Edit:
Here is another page that might be the answer: apparently it's the program that polls other servers, such as your mail provider and anything you subscribe to, and notifies you if there's anything new there. So if you want that to happen, yes, it will need to work through your firewall.

Is some program not working like it should? Then it seems ok to go ahead and make an exception. But if everything is working as desired, then don't change things, no need for a firewall exception.
