The team makes quick work of the remaining Fire Mephits. These measly creatures never stood a chance.

    Each character gains 4,500 XP.

    Spoiler: Status and Conditions
    Show
All the Fire Mephits are dead.

Liselle is healed for 8 and has 49 HP remaining.

With the mephits defeated, the team is free to take a closer look at the large chamber. The torches behind the six pedestals that previously held Fire Mephits are quickly identified as everburning torches. While they create areas of light and dark within the room, they provide excellent illumination on the walls. Carved reliefs depict a sort of story.

A mass of indistinct creatures stretch their hands and arms up towards what could only be the enormous sun in the sky above this pyramid. Fire comes down from the sun into their hands, and it appears to be placed into what looks like an ornate oil wick lamp. What it means exactly is anyone's guess. Perhaps the creatures here were able to harness the power of the giant angry fire orb in their sky somehow.

The reliefs have numerous sockets filled with brilliant red rubies that are fairly easy to pry loose. In all, there are 1,500gp worth of rubies here.

You see two potential ways out of this room:
The stairwell back to the Mirror Room above
    Or
There is a short hallway leading out of the room that ends with a sturdy stone door.

Thanquil creeps to the stone door and places his ear against it, immediately rewarded hearing several muffled voices through just beyond speaking in Ignan. It's hard to make out precisely what is being said, but the gist is pretty clear. It sounds like they're arguing about who should go and investigate the commotion they heard.

At least four distinct voices are clear, but it's possible there are more creatures within. They don't seem to have a designated leader based on the argument at hand.

Thanquil creeps back from the door and then whispers to the party "There's four creatures on the other side of the door, they've heard the fight and are trying to decide how to respond. If we move quickly then we can get the drop on them. Oh and they're speaking Ignan, the elemental language of fire so expect to face more fire based attacks."

Then he stands with a clear line of sight to the door and readies an arrow to shoot through the door when it's opened.

Liselle takes the time Thanquil is listening at the door to manifest Shield on herself, then while he's discussing their approach to the next room, she adds Vigor (Psionic vigor, not lesser vigor, so she's adding on 10 temp HP instead of healing her existing burns). Nodding her agreement to Thanquil's idea, she takes up position beside the door, and prepares to follow their fireproof tank through.

The team bursts into the room. At first glance it looks like a meeting chamber of sorts. The chamber is dominated by a single heavy stone table. There appear to be no chairs in the room at this time.

The creatures who were heard speaking previously turn to face towards you. Now in the room you count seven molten-colored creatures, their crimson eyes ablaze. Each of the creatures is wearing chainmail and the front four are holding drawn longswords. The back three wield longspears, their swords still hanging from their belts.

Thanquil immediately recognizes the creatures as Firenewts. Fiery reptilian demi-humans, no stronger than the average Solumite, albeit a little less intelligent. They tend to rely on numbers to overwhelm opponents rather than individual skill.

    Initiative:
    Firenewts (1d20+1)[12]

    Orchid (1d20+2)[11]
    Solstafir (1d20+9)[10]
    Thanquil (1d20+7)[14]

    Liselle and Thanquil have initiative.

Thanquil's arrows find a spear-wielding firenewt's neck and eye. Strange blue blood spurts out from the puncture wounds as the firenewt collapses against the table, sinking to the ground, dead.

Liselle moves forward without hesitation, shifting strangely through the shadows cast by the torchlight. Her spiked chain flashes out at the nearest foe just before she disappears, the shadows swallowing her completely. Now invisible, she sneaks onto the table.

They begin to flee into a hallway connected to this meeting room, some of them trying to scramble over and under the large stone table to get there, desperate to get away from you.

Liselle sees her opportunity, her spiked chain flashing out at four more of the creatures.

"Pathetic little creatures." Solstafir spat on one of the mangled corpses, then bent down to retrieve his harpoon. Carefully checking with his finger he confirmed the edge was still good after impacting unyielding stone instead of soft flesh. "We're already some way down the corridor, let's keep going and save the door for later." The disposable zombie took the lead, with the smith following behind.

The corridor reaches a T intersection, extending left or right. Along the far wall of the hallway there are four sturdy stone doors.

One to your right, three to your left. Other than the doorways, there appear to be no exits. The doors have no particular markings, though carefully moving and listening at each of the doors reveals the following:

    Thanquil's listen (1d20+12)[30]
    Liselle's listen (1d20+10)[22]

    From right to left:
Rightmost door: The crackling of fire and voices softly speaking Ignan, after a brief moment of listening, you count four. It sounds like they are playing a game of dice or something. They clearly haven't become aware you're in their home.

Second door: Clanging and clacking of weapons striking something fairly sturdy. Maybe wood. It almost sounds like a fight is going on in there, but given how many blows sound like they're landing and no sounds of pain or death - you'd guess perhaps there is a sparring match or similar going on. The number of creatures in the room is unclear, and while they don't know you're here, they're likely more prepared than the creatures in the first room.

Third door: A strange slurping sound emanates from within. It has fairly steady rhythm, alternating between slurping and being quiet steadily. Something might be in there.

Leftmost door: The sound of claws clacking against stone can be heard faintly within. Judging by the pace, you'd guess a single bipedal creature with clawed feet is walking around inside.

Solstafir shrugged; might as well go with Orchid's suggestion. He took point in front of the door, but instead of bringing the undead spider with him he placed it in front of the next door over to block the path of the most likely group to interfere in the upcoming fight. Once everyone was in position he threw open the door, ready to face whatever creatures may lie beyond it.

Before they kick down the door Thanquil whispers "It might be good to capture one alive if we can this time. Since they're intelligent they might be able to tell us more about this pyramids defences."

After ensuring that any lingering damage is recovered, the group bursts in through the first door, the spider zombie blocking the second door.

Within there are four creatures, just as counted sitting among a number of cots and bedrolls, sitting at the center of the room around what appears to be some kind of mat. Small dice that carved from animal bones are being used for some kind of game. Three of the creatures are yet more of the weak Firenewts, equipped just as their comrades with longswords and chainmail. The last voice, however, belongs to a creature with a muscular humanoid upper half and serpentine lower half, covered in red and black scales. Flame shaped spines jut from the creature's head, arms and spine. This creature is also wearing chainmail and a spear lays at its side. The Salamander is a bit more powerful of a foe, however, the team has taken them by surprise!

    Initiative:
    Salamander and Firenewts (1d20+1)[10]

    Liselle (1d20+9)[13]
    Orchid (1d20+2)[22]

    Thanquil (1d20+7)[12]

All party members get a Standard Action during the surprise round and have initiative, having caught your foes in the middle of a heated game of dice.
