Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
I'm back and I have some more questions. Well, mainly one question.
A friend of mine was recently trying to figure out the utility of the Leman Russ Battle Tank. Mainly, is there any way to stop it from being totally shut down by melee? After all, it can't use any of that firepower when other models are within an inch. The Greatest Threads Of GiantITP (in my opinion):

Then dont let other models get within an inch? Between terrain, infantry screens, the limited movement afforded by grinding advance, etc. it shouldnt be that common. I mean, it does depend on the match up, but it shouldnt be happening so often as to question its utility.

Genestealer Cults can have basically nothing on the board Turn 1. Or the stuff that is on the board is a couple of Infantry squads hiding in ruins with a Mortar.
If you hate infantry you can instead use Hellhounds and Sentinels to screen.Spoiler: I'm a writer!Spoiler: Check out my fanfiction[URL="https://www.fanfiction.net/u/7493788/Forum-Explorer"here[/URL]

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
I've finally taken the plunge back into 40k having not played since 5th edition with a small Space Marine force, despite never touching loyalists ever previously. I'm about to put together some intercessors and I've noticed they have the option to take an auxiliary grenade launcher but it doesn't seem to be modelled anywhere on the sprue. Does anyone have any advice for an easy way of representing it on a model?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
The intercessors out of the starter sets don't come with any. It was pretty easy to convert however.
Unfortunately I don't have pictures, but what I did was carefully cut off the barrels from two bolters, and re-positioned them higher on the gun. Then I found a larger barrel from my bits box. (I think it was an extra heavy stubber from one of the new primaris tanks.) I took that barrel and turned it into the two additional barrels for the two marines in question. Then, since I have had trouble identifying them on the battlefield, I made sure the only guys in my intercessor squads who have the little shoulder shields are the ones with aux launchers. Now, Back to Lurking!

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
Sometimes I wonder how my brain comes up with lists. I start by just putting together a simple Knights list I might be able to use at NOVA's 5 man tourney. Then I think about the ETC defense lists and suddenly I'm thinking that 120 Graia Skittari rangers would be awesome, and now I'm wracking my brain for what I should spend the last 59 points on and I think the answer is the Blackstone Fortress character.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
Kill Team, Core Only, 100 Points:
Definitely not my favourite format. But I was teaching a new kid, so that's how that goes.
I misread the mission. I read 3 VPs per Objective at the end of the game. He's playing T'au. So obviously I want to chuck a garbage unit at him to eat his Overwatch, and then continue to charge. So I went with a pseudo-melee swarm:
Termagants (x6)
Hormagaunts (x6)
Tyranid Warrior; Deathspitter, Flesh Hooks, Boneswords
Tyranid Warrior Gunner; Flesh Hooks, Venom Cannon, Bonswords
Obviously, all the Objectives are gonna be mine.
He's playing T'au, so he drops down a couple of Burst Cannon 'Suits and I'm like 'lol, you'll never hold Objectives with those'.
1. I didn't read that the mission also had Kill Points, and
2. I forgot that 'Suits had <Fly> and could just Fall Back.
At the end of the game;
I had an Objective, he had an Objective, and one was contested.
...He had 7 KPs, I had 3.
That's what I get for not reading the Mission, and for forgetting how Fly works. Should've gone for lots of Shooty stuff.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
Well, my Roster was...
Termagants (x8) - 4 Points ea.
Hormagaunts (x6) - 4 Points ea.
Hormagaunt; Adrenal Glands - 5 Points [Combat]
Hormagaunt; Toxin Sacs - 5 Points [Veteran]
Lictor - 25 Points [Veteran]
Tyranid Warriors (x2); Deathspitters, Flesh Hooks, Boneswords - 22 Points ea. [Leader, Comms]
Tyranid Warrior Gunner; Venom Cannon, Flesh Hooks, Boneswords - 24 Points [Heavy]
Model Count 20/20
Total: 175 Points
...Had I known it was a KP Mission as well, I would've thrown in the Lictor and/or the other Warrior, and denied KPs as much as I could.
I will never just give a new player a win. Usually I will make morebad'fun' choices, that...Tip the balance in my opponent's favour. There's a big difference between losing because you made active choices you knew were bad but made anyway, for reasons. And losing because you didn't read the Mission. Even against a new player, I should still be reading the Mission.

Ragnar looks kinda dainty perched on that rubble. And while I usually have a problem with models getting bigger, I'm fine with it for Thraka since Orks ending up in bigger and bigger suits of armor is basically part of the life cycle of a warboss.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
I agree with you. Yet another dude in Power Armour being pitted against a tank-size alien-cyborg just... doesn't interest me. Why not make it Bjorn versus Ghazghull? He could do with a new model, and Dreadnought vs. Mega-Ork would be cool.
I also haven't seen this mentioned recently - GW have released a single female Catachan character as an exclusive mini for new opening stores - Sergeant Ripper Jackson.
Tough looking lady, but there's something a bit off about the shape of her head/face, I think. And I'm never a fan of one faction's model having another sculpted onto it, in this case, the Tyranid - it just doesn't look right when your game is anything BUT Tyranids.~ CAUTION: May Contain Weasels ~

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
I think if she was looking stoically off to the side rather than yelling it would work a bit better. I think the model looks great, the body looks like she is tense and ready to spring into action, but her face looks like she's already charging into action (does that comment read as male-gazey?). I think the robotic leg looks neat.
I don't mind the sculpted bases, I don't think it is any worse suspension of disbelief than if an army is ice-based but we're gaming on an urban ruin table and my bases are all jungle-themed. What's more immersive (in my opinion) is if an army has a coherent look on its own. After playing so many games with half my models grey and a further quarter only primed, I feel like any opponent has a lot of leeway. Plus, most models spend the majority of their time in a display-case anyway.
Agreed about the infantry-primaris continuing to be underwhelming. At least Ragnar is doing something, whereas Kor'sarro Khan is just hanging out, not on a bike.
I hope Fabius sticks around. I think that sculpt still holds up, even if he is a bit small. Heck, maybe just 3D scan the fellow and upsize it a bit and start printing that. He's also a fairly decent cheap HQ to plug into most armies.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
I actually do care, Sisters is sometginh I decided to work on this year, and the price isn't what drove me away, it was a combo of the sculpts, and them being made of pewter.
The characters (Dialogus, Canoness, Imagifier) cost about what I expected.
The Immolator/Rhino getting such a huge price bump does seem odd.
The Seraphim also cost what I expected, though I was hoping they'd be cheaper.

Re: Warhammer 40K Tabletop Thread XXXIX: Miracle on 39th Thread
Bjorn looks fine for a classic dreadnought. Honestly, I worry if GW did try to update him they'd cover an already busy model in even more pelts.
No, the missed opportunity is not making the first Rubicon Space Wolf Bran Redmaw. Now that would make Saga of the Beast worthy of the name- Goliath Ghazghull vs. Bran half-way to Wulfen would make for quite the clash of titans.Last edited by Squark; 2020-03-09 at 11:11 PM.

You're right, that would be more interesting. They could have used the excuse of "random side-affect caused by Primarisation" to create a whole new scale of Wulfen, one big enough that it wouldn't look completely ridiculous stood next to Ghazghull.
