Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
Not the problem I was expecting. But, is Kat's body dead or unconscious?
Usually, I understand why Kat and Annie don't go and grab adults to help. But, am I the only who thinks this wouldn't have happened if they'd gotten Kat's parents? Or even Annie's dad?
Or what about Reynard? He probably has some opinions about rushing into moving your consciousness around without weighing the consequences.
I mean, look how that worked out for him.Last edited by Ellen; 2023-02-27 at 12:41 AM.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
Neither? Unless she managed, somehow, to so mess up the design that it transferred her consciousness wholesale to the Machine, then all her sensory inputs have been redirected into interfacing with the Machine.
As to the rest, it would be speculation, as she's not moving her consciousness; her senses are wholly coming from the Machine, when her intent was to overlay inputs from the Machine into her senses.May you get EXACTLY what you wish for.

I love the mental typo of calling her body her "account"
I am otherwise freaked the hell out about this whole situation

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
Thinking about it, it makes sense.
Annie's dad is too bound up with the Court. Even though Kat has worked with him well there probably isn't a great deal of trust with him at the moment. Kat's parents have the same sort of issue, and while she definitely trusts them more they're also more likely to tell her not to do it out of concern for her. Reynard isn't an expert on human/machine interfaces, and Kat has been dismissive of the magic side of things in the past.
It's a bit reckless even by her standards, but I can easily see why Kat wouldn't want to involve the adults no matter how smart it would have been. She's being a reckless teenager.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
It would be quite the plot-twist if it turns out she's been a Court spy all this time, and is preemptively apologizing before attacking Antimony.

Nah, she isn't a Court spy: she's just an AI who's been trained on Court spies

It's probably a reference to this moment during the Insane Cruise Ship adventure.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
I know it's a clear case of early installment weirdness, but I find it hilarious that Annie is being depicted as clueless (or at least less-helpful) on the tech side of things when just about the first thing we ever saw her do in the comic was build a robot.

But Annie later said she didn't have the first idea how to make a robot: she just switched him on.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
I got the feeling that Annie was somewhat deflated in later comics... early on, she could speak Polish, build robots, contact the unseen world, do karate, use lockpicks, and probably do more stuff I don't remember. There were all the ingredients for the world to rotate around her. Instead, she became bad at school and people, and, while influential, a cog in Coyote's long-term machinations.

She's also a child who might not have much say if her parents are leaving the court.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
So, what is the plan for the infrastructure the Court is leaving behind? Are there going to be two Courts, or is the old Court to be abandoned completely? Do the people who plan to stay have any of their own leadership or organization?

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
The Old Court is going to be abandoned completely by the Movers. The New Court is one of pure science, no Ether involved, or so they believe.
The Stayers? Well, they're probably going to try to rebuild the Old Court. It all depends what happens with Loup (cause, you know, they believe he'll bash things). Between the ascended Kat Robots, the Forest Dwellers and the Stayers, they could rebuild and create a blended Court. A mix of the Etheric and Science, kind of like what Kat's doing.May you get EXACTLY what you wish for.

Re: Gunnerkrigg Court 8: Thrown for a Loup
Paz gonna take a ride on a bus.
Whenever real world locations get mentioned I'm reminded this is actually a location that's supposedly in the real world.
Did we ever get information as to where Gunnerkrigg is actually located? I legitimately don't remember.
