Svetlana doesn't seem to care about the mixed reception, but nods in agreement with Wenomir. "I think so, too. An adequate job, all things considered." Like the fact that they're recruits, and were working with limited information. "I'm merely pointing out where I think they could improve, sensei. Training under you, I'm sure they will only improve with time."

She pulls two things from her hammerspace inventory, a sword and an apple. Throwing the apple high up, she unsheathes her katana and swings at the midair apple in the same motion, swinging once more in quick succession. Quickly sheathing the katana and putting it back in her inventory, she readies her hand to catch the seemingly-whole apple. Just before it lands in her waiting hand, it splits into four equal parts. "Apple?" She offers each to the recruits, then bows to Wenomir and offers him one too.

Ever the show-off, Svetlana! At least her excuse that Wenomir would get to see her technique is valid.

The three recruits each take a slice of the apple, impressed by Svetlana's display but trying not to show it. Wenomir seems amused.

"Another teacher might make a lecture about showing off, but I'd be a hypocrite to do so, since I'm not above doing that myself. This was a successful lesson, all in all. I hope you've learned something about adverse conditions and struggling to protect someone rather than just win or get away."

Adir runs out the string of his suggestion, glancing at Ilphy. "Maybe they couldn't use one of their own kind? Or maybe it was easier? Hell, I don't know. It's worth looking into, though. Why rule anything out?" He looks around the room. "This stuff about contacting Ilphy's dad is a waste of time. She's not Ilpholin. If she somehow is, I think it will come out while we look into everything. Bringing in Zee sounds like a great idea though."

"And what was this about your sister?" Adir asks Anika. "What we could really use is someone who can poke around in her memories... maybe her dreams. We got any mentalist specialists around VIGIL? Psychics? Hell, I know it's probably less likely we have a real professional rather than some complete weirdo, but an actual psychotherapist might help in a pinch."

[Ilphirmary]

Anika blushes as Ilpholin points out the flaws of her logic and scratches the back of her head as she looks down at the floor. "Um, no. That's true. I just figured that... in case there's been memory alterations and stuff. But then in that case your family might not be able to help." She reasons with some dismissive hand gestures until she overcomes her temporary shame and manages to look the others in the eyes again. "But yeah, my other idea was to send her, or both of you, to my sister since she can dream walk and I think that means she could tell false memories from real ones. Just like Adir said." She gestures at the stag.

[Ilphirmary]

"I doubt the demons could use one of their kind and make it so much like you." Mia replies. "They at least had to use soething simular. Something still bugs me. Whatever exactly they did they only took hours for that. Since it happened during the Riverside fight, between the moment they caught you and AMEN got her."

"But yes, someone who can look deeper into the mind would be a great help. I am more for physikal cure for non machines."

[Ilphirmary]

Ilphy sits up straighter and furrows her brows at the thought of the proposals. "Yeah, I don't see what bringing my...our...her...Raril into things would do to help." She points out before turning thoughtful. "The Matron...that's interesting though. Would she give me a different face do you think?" She asks Ilpholin, genuinely curious and considering it. Eventually she closes her eyes and shrugs a bit. "As good looking as we..you are, now that attention has been called to it, it feels and looks...uncanny valley to me now. Wrong. At the very least, turning me over to the Matron would get me out of here and out of sight. And if I am just some sort of sleeper or double-agent, she'll just off me and you all would never hear another word. I'm game." That or the Matron would somehow recruit her as an agent, but Ilphy wasn't going to be dumb enough to say that out loud for everyone to hear.

Wenomir is silent for a moment, turning it all over in his head. He doesn't like any of it much...

"I don't know if getting drow nobility involved in all this is a good idea, but we don't seem to have better ones. So if both of you agree..."

Would the Matron give her a different face? Most likely, held over Ilphy's head as a favor to be earned or repaid. Unless it somehow served the Matron's interests otherwise, but... "The Matron rewards the faithful," is the most honest assurance Ilpholin can give. It's pretty likely, all told. Ilphy probably already feels as much. Matron Danube was a major reason why Ilpholin ever survived the Underdark.

Ilpholin looks at Mia with frustration. "Almost like the demons had been planning this for awhile and merely needed an opportunity. But like I said, I wasn't caught." Nearly died. There's a difference.

And while Anika's suggestion has its own merit, Ilpholin's attention is mostly drawn to Adir. "Why rule anything out? Why rule anything out?!" She takes a step and points a finger accusingly at his chest. "ALL YOU'VE BEEN LOLTHING DOING IS RULING THINGS OUT! You've ignored the most logical possibilities because SHE'S injured and YOU feel the need to White Knight for her harder. It's pathetic!"

The nymph pulls her hand back, feeling it tremble slightly. "You know what? Whatever. You all rescued her, you decide what to do with her. There's clearly nothing of value to be gained by sticking around. I need to step out and call Mister Squiggles to get all of our security completely overhauled." Ilpholin turns to exit the room to do just that. Not intending to leave the island, but definitely step away from the clone.

[VIGIL - Cessie's Office]

"Thankfully no one died, but yes. We do need to be able to protect ourselves better against these things. Everything we can't adapt to is an weakness our enemies can exploit." The sorceress nods.

"So yes, the reason I did bring this up was since I thought there were things to be learned here and I can see that you've seized on that that." Her eyes narrow for a moment, perhaps a bit exploitative of the good doctor to jump on an awful event like that?

"But there was a reason I did bring up HALO, Dr. Valiance. Even if you have a problem working with others I would have to entrust you, a complete stranger who we can't even properly background check with the creation of a whole new department of VIGIL. So I'm afraid there needs to be at least some way to know what you're doing and right now I don't think there is anyone here who would. So either I'd contact HALO for a scientist or I would need another suggestion to how we'd do that."

[Ilphirmary]

Anika wasn't planning to say anything and as Ilpholin points an accusatory finger at Adir she's all the more glad she wasn't. Holy crap.
It was like Ilpholin had drained all the energy out of the room in that moment and the druid had to remind herself not to stare. She felt like she needed a few moments before she could even speak right now. Perhaps she should lay down on that bench or something? Yikes.

[Hattish Thing]

VIGIL - Cessie's Office

Dr. Valiance listens intently before raising his hands up defensively. "Oh no, I work fine with others, Ms. Mithar! Super fine. In fact, I'll probably need an assistant or two if everything works out nicely. It's just that I'd like to run my laboratory the way that I know is best for me, for once. Some find certain habits of mine difficult to understand."

With a warm smile, he continues. "Anyhow. I can't fault you for being careful, I know this organization means a lot to you. I'm more than willing to participate in peer review. What are the terms?"

"I'm certain this will be little more than a formality, to be passed with flying colors! Then we can get to the exciting work. Like... like the acid stuff."

[And Now for Bear Rides]

Yes indeed, the rest of Lapis is still there, just folded out of view. It doesn't look weird or anything of the like, quite natural really.

"Those aren't very important differences," Lapis replies resolutely. "And I didn't change! I'm just standing a little differently."

She's quite firm on this!

To drive home this point she pets Anika some more.

Firmly.

"Oh, yeah! Mom's Determination. Like how living things strive to overcome adversity. Since I'm a seraph I got Mom's spheres but once I start climbing the Tower I'll probably get my own that's different from hers. That's how it worked as Mom grew away from Grandma. I think it works like that with all Empyreans that are born like me."

And then?

Lapis gives a little squeal of glee!

"Yeah lets ride!" she agrees as she clambers onto Anika's back.

Electra nods. She catches the amusement Wenomir's trying to hide, and has to suppress a chuckle of her own in response. Yes, a lot of mechaniloid designs from her home dimension are kind of goofy-looking. At least, until they start trying to kill you. Then they're not so humorous. Wenomir might catch the brief bit of mirth in her own eyes, and the start of a sardonic grin at her lips, before her eyes flash, and the slide changes again, showing three humanoid figures clad in armor similar to her own. One seems to have average specifications, at least, compared to the other two, who seem to be optimized for ranged and close-in combat, respectively, though all three are decidedly super-human in pretty much every regard.

"Yeah, I'd expect them to have organic troops, too. I'm mostly focusing on the robotic ones because that's what I have intel on, where my knowledge can help you the most." She turns to the slide for a moment. "These are the standard, mass-produced soldier bodies that were in use back home. They may have more unique designs among their ranks, but this will give you a baseline to train towards. And speaking of..."

Her eyes flash again, and the slide changes to an outline.

"The training regimen I've included covers basic physical requirements, and then delves into both offensive and defensive tactics." She raises an eyebrow at Wenomir, then goes on. "Hunter tactics always recognized that human, or, here in the Nexus, organic, I should probably say, soldiers were never going to match the combination of speed, strength, and endurance that reploids are capable of, so they tend to focus on survivability and making critical strikes before the reploid is aware they're there. That may not strictly be true here, thanks to an abundance of supernatural abilities that folks have access to thanks to magic and other stuff, but this will at least help your people who may not be possessed of such abilities."

Her eyes flash again, and another slide comes up, with the outline of one of the previously shown humanoids, with lines leading to various bodily areas, and notes about potential weak points.

"For example, 90% of reploid designs have our power cores located in the central chest area, which means that a hit with a sufficiently heavy weapon in that area is likely to cause either an immediate shutdown, or an explosive overload. Since reploids are powered by...well, to put it in non-technical terms, miniaturized fusion reactors; we have a lot of energy stored inside us, and if one of those energy stores is damaged, it can explosively overload." She pauses for a moment, and taps her forehead with a finger. "As another example, 85% of us have our 'brains' located in our heads. If you can get through the armor there, it will disable us. Our humanoid design means that a lot of the same weak-points on a human or an elf also work on us. Though our repair systems do mean that sometimes catastrophic damage in other areas can be worked around, albeit at reduced capacity."

She points at the area between where her breastplate ends, and where her armored "codpiece" starts; what appears to mostly be a black bodysuit covering her stomach.

"As an example of this, if you were to say, stab or shoot me in the stomach, I'd be able to continue functioning, though I might not be able to move as quickly without causing further damage that would need to be repaired later. I'd also be in a substantial amount of pain, and probably incredibly angry, but still able to fight."

She crosses her arms over her chest and turns back towards the slide.

"The largest problem is reliably getting through our armor. I've included a list of weapon types that will reliably punch through standard reploid armor that are readily available in the Nexus. Many of them are what you'd consider "heavy" weapons, unfortunately, and you'll want to use them at range. If you have any really good markspeople, I'd suggest looping them in on this training. The further away you can engage troops of this type, the better your odds are."

Her eyes flash again, bringing up another slide, this time of a human soldier wearing high-tech armor of their own, with small lines extending to various bits of the kit, detailing various pieces of equipment.

"And here are some defensive measures you can equip your troops with. Reploids can be armed with any variety of standardized weapons, though there's a larger propensity towards energy weapons to take advantage of the power cores we use. Energy melee weapons, or their equivalent, are thus advised as standard equipment, and armor or personal shielding that defends against energy weaponry can also increase personnel survival rates." She shifts uncomfortably. "That sort of armor and shielding isn't nearly as available in the Nexus as the weaponry, but I've tried to make a list of suppliers who either carry or can manufacture such equipment. I will mention that the going rate for such equipment is not inexpensive, either, but you might be able to equip your more important personnel with it, at the very least."

She leans back against the wall as her eyes glow for a moment, and the projector shuts off. The lights come up as well, and she crosses her arms over her chest again.

"Which brings up a different question. I know KABAL has taken it upon themselves to pick fights with you in the past. You mentioned your other scout....Emily, was it? Had seen regular troops at their base. Do you think it's possible they'd hire KABAL to augment their forces?"

VIGIL - Cessie's Office

Cessie nods. "Assistans I would have no trouble providing but be aware that this project is likely going to become bigger than just you new members eventually are going to join in. You will be the founder but you won't be the leader if that makes sense. Nonetheless, the terms will have to be decided between you, me and whatever other scientist that I manage to find. I don't expect them to be particularly daunting however. We just need some oversight over the whole process."

Svetlana nods and smiles. "Tak.... I mean, yes I have, thank you, sensei." She bows, glad to have at least amused him. She turns to the recruits. "I look forward to watching your growth."

Once that's done, she'll continue to talk and perhaps walk with Wenomir. "Have I mentioned I am also a cyberneticist, sensei? I can be useful to VIGIL in that capacity also. After I retired from figure skating, being one was my job until... until recent events shaped me into the woman I am today." The smile falls off her face at the last bit, her lips pursing instead. "I am happy I learnt about this place. Two siblings, Karasu and Mirai - I am told by the former that she's met you - led me here. The stories about you don't do you justice."

Well, doesn't look weird to either of them. If Anika could see it, however...

Asher figures she's correct from a certain point of view, and after pondering it for a bit, nods and continues petting Anika's fur. "Okay, okay! What's important is you're still very cute!"

He listens as he pats, nodding and smiling. An angel of determination, that sounds so cool! "I think all angels everywhere in all the worlds have that in common. Well, the ones that aren't made for a specific sphere from birth!"

But then Anika declares her desire to ride! With a flap of his wings, he hovers above until she's righted herself, then lands on her back behind Lapis. "Yaaay! Trot, Anika! Trot!" He squeals joyfully, already enjoying the ride before it starts.

Wenomir listens to the presentation with utmost attention. All the information seems laid out easily enough, but it doesn't fill him with confidence; it seems that every one of those reploids is a match for most of their members, and there's an army of them. In addition to whatever else this force has at their disposal. They're not only staggeringly outnumbered but can't even rely on being individually stronger. He and Cessie might be able to dispose of those quickly, but other members might not be so lucky.

"I don't know if she saw 'regular' troops," he says. "From a distance and without being familiar with them, those androids are rather hard to distinguish from organic humans. But hiring KABAL isn't out of the question for them. KABAL has no scruples, since they worked with the Cuthun demons and that's as low as it gets. With AMEN being in shambles, all sorts of scum might flock to this new army's banner."

"Cyberneticist... no, I don't think you've mentioned that," Wenomir says. "I have met Karasu, yes. She was briefly an intern here. I'm sure stories about us are many, but not all of them are reliable," he adds, somewhat jokingly.

Electra sighs, closes her eyes and rubs the bridge of her nose for a moment, before looking back at Wenomir, worry clearly evident in her expression.

"I was afraid you'd say that. It matches with my own threat assessment far too well. I knew that they had some capacity with demons; when we were investigating that trouble that led to the mess with that moonwell thing, they had a car and a drone that were able to be possessed, but I wasn't aware they were working with them on a larger scale. I suppose I should have connected the dots, especially after Riverside."

She pushes off the wall with a shoulder and starts pacing back and forth.

"Scouting is going to be of the utmost importance, then, in order to get an accurate assessment of just what all they have. We're just guessing at this point past what I could get, and I wouldn't discount them having access to, or quickly gaining access to, magic of various kinds. Do you have any other members you would trust to do that kind of work?"

[Lending Awen a Hand]

Awen, having woken up, has tried to sit up, but found it awkward thanks to the machines attached to her.

Thanks to her hair lengthening and holding everything out of the way, she eventually manages to sit up.

She looks at her new hand for a couple moments, flexing it and moving the fingers around and seeing how it feels. Once she feels satisfied enough - it feels a little weird, she thinks, but...it's not awful - she finally looks around and spots Mia. "Oh! Um...um...um...sorry," she says, "I-I didn't see you there."

She looks downwards to avoid eye contact.

Embarrassed, Awen's hair shrinks and falls flat against her, only swaying a little. The snakes in her hair start waking up as well, now that she's awake.

"Don't mind" mia replies. "It's my fault to be silent after all. Does anything feel off? Is all working as expected?"

Mia's workshop

"No trouble at all." Mia receives a bit of a raised eyebrow from Saramond. She's quite young. A prodigy, perhaps? He hasn't heard of any Deus Mechanicus, but the galaxy is a large place. "What does the evaluation entail?"

Mia's workshop

"Well." she says and obviously needs a moment. "I guess you tell me just what you have done so far or what you want to do around here and then we see if we can make an example."

[Ilphirmary]

Mia has nothing more to say now. she isn't sure what exactly happened in riverside so it's a bit hard to argue anyway. She will return to observe the data on the clone unless something else comes up.

"I-I'm not really sure what I was expecting," Awen says. She still flexes the new hand and its fingers, as if she needs to get used to it.

"Um. It seems to be working fine...I can't find anything wrong with it."

"That may be, sensei, but the ones that are don't do you justice, in my opinion." Svetlana replies. "Asides Karasu's report, that is. She admires you, and she passed that admiration to me."

"Have you always been in the Nexus, sensei?" She asks, curious. "I would like to know about the origins of this esteemed organization."

"The demons have an amazing ability to make people think trucking with them is a good idea." Wenomir's voice is dripping with contempt. "Each of those fools think they will be the ones to come out on top, instead of the demons simply turning on them once their other goals are achieved." He shakes his head. "But never mind that for now. We do have some members we can send on spying and recon missions. Maybe hire some of your fellow MERC members. It'll be risky, but necessary."

[Training Grounds - Arena]

"Be careful about admiring me, Svetlana," Wenomir cautions her, suddenly more serious. "I'm only human, like anyone else. It's good to have something or someone to aspire to, but... I've had my share of failures." With that said, he continues. "No, I come from a dim world far from here, one of the gloomiest places on it to boot. I didn't found Vigil, but I was here from the beginning. The founding members... are no longer with us." He sighs, feeling a mixture of nostalgia and grief. How much Kr is really gone is debatable, but Cassandra certainly isn't the same person. "It was called Watchtower, back then and was in a different place. Which I ended up destroying to keep it from the demon scum's hands."

Svetlana's smile fades and she listens to her teacher with a more serious look on her face. "I know, sensei, that you're not perfect. No one is, not even my dead husband." She says, sorrowful as she mentions the man who still has her heart from beyond the grave. "I've been a celebrity, I know what it is like to be idealized, and I try not to do that to others. I admire you and aspire to be like you, because of your strength, courage and bravery in hard situations. Because of your skills, both in combat and out of it; and your readiness to defend the weak and destroy evil. I daresay those failures, whatever they may be, have only made you stronger."

She listens attentively to him, wishing in that moment that she could have been around to witness the beginnings of this great organization. When he sighs, she feels her hand stretching forward to comfort him, but withdraws. It wouldn't be proper. "I am sorry to hear that, sensei." The mention of demons elicit a reaction of disdain from her. Demons are always bad, as far as she knows, and the fact that they led to him destroying the base just gives her more reason. "That must have been a difficult decision. Demon scum. I hope the demons are no longer a threat."

Electra nods again and stops pacing. Wenomir seems to keep surprising her, but she's careful not to show it. Clearly, her perception of him was skewed from the first couple of times they interacted briefly. She weighs options for a moment, before speaking again, her expression softening.

"I've a few suggestions, that way, from MERC, if you're interested. I'm offering my services free of charge, of course, but I do have some ideas of who might be suited for such a mission from MERC's roster, if you need to hire us."

"I-I'm not really sure what I was expecting," Awen says. She still flexes the new hand and its fingers, as if she needs to get used to it.

"Um. It seems to be working fine...I can't find anything wrong with it."

Mia nods. "That is good. Don't hesitate if anything appears unusual. It is allways different with every person, sometimes it even appears that their body tries to get rid of it, but that is extremly rare."

Mia then leaves the room for a moment getting a cart she placed just outside. The table got several items on it. Some grips to see if the can grab things, some balls of differetn size, a few soft objects and some sheets with differetn textures. It should be obviouse what they are for.

"You should rest a bit more, but if you want here is something to test the hand and train a bit."

"I'll be glad for any recommendations, but I'd prefer to keep it in Vigil unless necessary." Wenomir rubs his chin in thought. "Though we'll also share this information with HALO. They've got more of a research bent lately. Now, do you have more information to present, or should we proceed to the practical demonstration?"

[Training Grounds - Arena]

A strange smile plays across Wenomir's features.

"I almost didn't notice when I became a celebrity to people. When I was younger, being famed and recognized was all I thought I wanted. Now I realize what a double-edged sword it is." He's not entirely honest. Being famous appeals to his pride. But he does also chafe at some effects of it. "As for the demons, they are still a threat. Our efforts to stem their tide have been... not unsuccessful, but they just keep on coming. Casualties and setbacks matter little to them."

Svetlana isn't sure what the smile means, but she responds anyway, deciding to be a bit more honest because this is her sensei she's talking to.

A man she idolizes a bit more than she herself is aware of.

"We can agree on that, sensei. I admit, it feels good to be famed and recognized for your skills, having people who aspire to be like you. Really good..." She smiles for a bit, then frowns. "The idealization and subsequent disappointment when you turn out to be nothing like they imagined you'd be, the invasions of privacy, creeps who are only fans because of your beauty rather than your skills... truly, a double-edged sword."

As for the next topic: "Then we shall defeat them until they learn. We should take the fight to them, Wenomir-sensei. Nonetheless, I pledge to do all I can to help repel the demon scum. I can't wait to fight alongside you!"

"I think everything else is fairly self-explanatory," Electra says with a nod. She looks a little embarrassed. "Truth be told, I wasn't sure if there were going to be more questions, but we can move on to the practical now if there's not anything else that stands out as unclear that I might be able to answer. I might suggest that if you already have a few people in mind, they might want to watch or take part, but that's up to you."

Awen looks at the things.
"So...grabbing exercises, holding exercises, and seeing if I can feel things right?" she guesses, looking at them.

She nods. She's fine with resting.
She probably needs it, anyway.

The witch tries out a couple things to get used to the hand and how it feels differently from her other hand, and spends a bunch of time resting.

With a nod, Dr. Valiance raises a hand up before offering a confident thumbs up towards Cessie. Who could say no to such a well-delivered thumbs up? No one, that's who. This was in the bag. "Oversight is good, just fine. Not a prob, Ms. Mithar."

"Soooo. When do we get to deciding terms?"

Alright, it was time to take off!

She had no idea what 'trot' meant but she guessed it had something to with moving and she was going to do that either way.
Starting out slow as she now had two kids on her back she goes towards the pool in the middle of the base. Kids loved pools right? It would be perfect for them to play around in!

Though any observer seeing the bear at the two kids on top her back might recall that neither were wearing any swimwear...

VIGIL - Cessie's Office

"Which terms are you talking about exactly? The deciding terms of what the branch should be like or something else? Since as I said, that can be decided when I have an expert by my side. Anything else would likely be too vague for my liking." She clears her throat. "But, if you want you could have a look around the base and pick out an unoccupied in the barracks in case you ever have the need to sleep here in the base. I don't expect any of our members to actually live here or overwork themselves to that degree. But we do seem to attract people with a more nomadic lifestyle and we like to accommodate them."

"In the past, I worked with starship drives," Saramond explains, "And I've done some mining and demolitions on the side.

"Everything has been rather clear so far. If I or someone else have more questions when poring over this information later, we'll contact you."

Wenomir presses a few buttons on his communicator as he leads Electra out of the library. It broadcasts a message to the members:

Everyone not currently preoccupied gather in the training grounds. We will receive a demonstration connected to a recent threat.

"As many members should see this as possible, but I don't know about participation. Can your weaponry be made non-lethal for safety purposes?"

[Training Grounds - Arena]

"Creeps, at least, aren't something I had to deal with. Though gossip about my personal life is rather commonplace," Wenomir remarks with distaste. "And I had to deal with politics, too. Public image. Every word being scrutinized and taken apart..." He shakes his head. "The next time we take action against the demons, you can come along. Makuro also hears the announcement and makes her way to the ring. She's a tall woman, allegedly human, but her limbs have been stretched beyond proportions. She stands about three metres tall, though her torso is no larger than average; her long legs are as long as her arms, and she's barefoot. Her skin is dark, her hair bright orange, and her eyes are wide and black with no differentiation between iris, sclera and pupil. She's wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of loose trousers tailored for her excessively long legs.
