I ask because I never really thought about how it ties in that the leader was smart enough to follow Redcloak immediately rather than try to be combative, and then out of nowhere comes a smart hobgoblin with a name who's buddy-buddy with xykon.

The supreme leader was shown to be a cleric of considerable wit who prefers negotiation over conflict, not unlike Jirix himself.

(Technically, one of the generic hobgoblin clerics at the Siege of Azure City was already retconned into being Jirix in the DSTP commentary - not sure which one, though.)

Personally I trust the Former Supreme Leader to find a way to avoid getting himself killed - twice. I also think if he was Jirix GDGU would have at least hinted at it. I hope he's still around, but I doubt he'll rise to prominence again before the comic is over (although I could totally see him rising in the ranks of the Gobbotopia government at some point in the future)

Former Supreme Leader has one thing besides his 3 "regalia pieces" that makes him really stand out from the other hobgoblins - that greenish cloak.

I've always sort of thought after the 'temporary bodies' comment (even though in context that's not what it meant) that those are just basically animated robes they're possessing so they're all on equal terms, since it's pretty unlikely that three very different types of fiends would otherwise look identical.

Ooh, excellent observation. In particular, Julia's Sending in strip 337 uses her standard speech balloon color.

Ghost Eugene's balloons (when he wasn't pretending to be Julia) were a different color than fake-Julia's though.

I take that combined with Eugene's big red angel voice (as well as the Ghost of Lame Monsters Past) as meaning ghosts can change their voices as they wish, but no matter what they do they will still sound somewhat off and "ghostly." Eugene's Julia ruse uses the standard black outlines and text, so it's presumably more normal-sounding.

I mean, Eugene is an illusionist. And assuming Transmutation wasn't on his barred school list he could easily look and sound like pretty much anyone or anything he wanted between polymorph spells and illusions.

Oona calls Redcloak "little bald man".

She likely doesn't mean Redcloak is bald as in lacking hair on the head, but as in being a fur-less Goblinoid, since she is a Bugbear and as such has fur.

Ironically Redcloak's older brother and nephew in SOD are the only male goblins we've ever actually seen with hair on top of their heads, although there's been a few more with beards.
