They wouldn't have made it if people didn't enjoy playing casino Mage so much. It's not a good deck, but people freaking love it so /shrug
I'm preordered, quite excited for it. I like the curated adventures and guaranteed cards are always nice.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Dang, the more I play, the more the current state of Battlegrounds is starting to feel sour to me. It feels like everything is 100% dependant on whether you get Cobalt Guardian or the demons composition, and going for the latter is risky since it costs you health, you need very specific cards to get it going (Wrath Weaver - preferably at least 3 to get a golden one - and Floating Watcher), and 3-4 other people will always be going for it, since it usually wins due to stacking stats faster than any other composition. Other compositions just feel like they're falling by the wayside, with only the luckiest pulls for Beast, Murlocs, or Menagerie managing to compete - especially since Demon comps are ending the game faster, making it even harder for Murlocs to hit their poison + divine shield late-game that would destroy demons, if it happened.
Really hope they address those things sooner rather than later.Toph Pony avatar by Dirtytabs. Thanks!

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Have to admit that I agree. Getting a bit salty about battlegrounds myself because the only way to win, or even survive, is to get lucky with wrath weavers and demons or ignore them and rush mechs (I have no idea how people manage to survive with murlocs, I always get wiped out nearly instantly when I try). If you're one of those unfortunates who get shafted and didn't get the demons you needed to increase the wrath weaver's attack quickly, you're going to lose quickly as you get left behind and no longer have the health to survive the wrath weavers' upgrades.
When I got lucky several games in a row last week, I got to 4900 rating. In the last few days, I dropped to 4400 because I couldn't get any combo working.Last edited by Resileaf; 2020-01-14 at 10:02 AM.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
I'm floating at 7K MMR and a bit below.
For me, yeah, it's a bit frustrating to see a high-roll Demon comp that just outstats you so early and it's easier to hit than the highroll Murloc comp. I'm not sure how prevalent it is, since so many people are going for the Wrathweaver + Floating Watcher that they should dilute the pool for themselves. It's about 50-50 on games where some dude has a 100/100 Floating Watcher and others where the Demons don't quite get the good stuff early enough and get knocked out by the Mech dudes.
I'm still having fun because I'm at the point where I'm still learning and doing proper plays. I'm still pretty bad at ordering Cobalt shield refreshes. Also, I'm not quite good at knowing which units to keep, when to switch, and generally trying to clutch out a higher placement so I don't lose as much MMR on bad games or bad heroes.
Edit: Just had the weirdest win as Nefarian. Started out most stats first and rolled to tier 4 and found a Soul Juggler + 2 Imp Gang boss. Guess I'm Demon Juggle.
Got a golden Spawn of N'Zoth and picked up a Goldrinn and bought a Hydra. I guess I'm Beasts now? Had some kind of weird board with a Spawn of N'Zoth Goldrinn, Hydra, 2 Imp Gang bosses, Voidwalker and a Juggler. Rolled and came up Cobalt Guardian, Screwjank Clunker, and Security Rover all in the same board and froze.
Is it too late for Mechs? Let's find out! I eventually transitioned to full Mechs with two beefy Taunted Cobalt Guardians, a Golden egg with Divine Shield + Taunt, that security rover and a Kangor's... which got sniped by the opponent's Zapp. Too bad I'm Nefarian and he's also Mech, the shields refreshed a bunch and I won. Never punished.
Also this is what I mean by still room for good plays on my part. I forgot he had a Zapp that would snipe my Kangor's Apprentice before any of my mechs died but it ended up not mattering. In an earlier game, I finished 4th instead of higher because I didn't position my board against Nefarian and my Cobalt went into a taunt before I put the shield refresher.
Edit 2: This is how you transition to Murlocs:

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Good news: we've had some more card reveals
Bad news: one of them is a neutral legendary, which means that not all the LoE classes are getting a hero card like I originally thought guess I'll have to wait longer for my druid hero card

Grand Lackey Erkh
4/2/3
After you play a Lackey, add a Lackey to your hand.
Rare Paladin Spell:
Air Raid
2 Mana
Twinspell, summon two 1/1 Silver Hand Recruits with Taunt
Rare Druid Beast:
Winged Guardian
7/6/8
Taunt, Reborn, Can't be targeted with spells or hero powers.
Common Priest Dragon:
Aeon Reaver
6/4/4
Battlecry: Deal damage to a minion equal to its attack.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Erkh is very powerful, I absolutely see this in a Handlock Lackey deck w/ Tekhan. Rogue could also use them, but I feel that is too greedy with current Galakrond lists (despite Lackeys being 1 1/1s, Draconic and Spell Lackeys also add cards.)
Air Raid is very flexible and really good, fits into any deck I can think of.
Winged Guardian joins Evasive Drakonid in making Soggoth cry in the corner. There's Big Beast synergy with Witching Hour and Oondasta, but there is the problem that it's too slow like Evasive Drakonid.
Aeon Reaver is in flavor for Priest, but I'm not sure if that is enough for a Standard Dragon deck, not that good for Res Priest either.you know that I'm more than just a doll do you?-Geno

I had a combination of win 3 brawls and win 3 with Rogue when I went to clear my quests today so I crafted the Rogue quest. I actually had a lot of fun and got a ton of value out of it, went 3 for 3 out of surprisingly long games.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
New Patch is out, for everyone not on iOS.
Solo Adventure so far hasn't really impacted the meta as far as I can tell. Bomb Wrangler, the Warrior 2/3, when it takes damage, summons a Boom Bot looks good in the tempo Galakrond Warrior decks, but I think Rogue is still the best deck at the moment.
Battlegrounds revealed two more Heroes. Tirion's Hero Power is 1 gold, give +1/+1 to all minions that don't have a type. Millhouse Manastorm is Passive: Buying a Minion costs 2 gold, Refreshing the Tavern costs 2 gold, start at 2 gold, which is weird and I don't have an idea how the early turns would look like.
They also accidentally re-enabled Trade Prince Gallywix (Hero Power, 1 gold, give a coin) and Professor Putricide (Hero Power, 1 gold, give a lot of attack).
They removed Voidwalker and added two Demons:
1 star 2/1, deathrattle give another minion this minion's attack.
2 star 3/3, deathrattle summon a 1/1 Imp.
Demons looks stronger with the 2 star, although you may take more early damage since Voidwalker is gone.
They also introduced a major de-sync bug. The battle taking place on your screen may end differently than what actually happened on the server. So, I've had rounds where I killed the opponent and they're still alive in the lobby because the server battle was different.
I remembered killing someone and then seeing them at 1 health and thinking "huh, guess I was wrong..." and nope, bug.
Finally, they sped up a bunch of the animations and removed the screen shaking. So, everything feels snappy, although the first game I played felt weird, like the game was on Turbo, until I adjusted. I do miss the epic feeling of dealing 20+ damage to someone and hearing the KABOOM.Last edited by Joran; 2020-01-22 at 11:30 AM.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Credit where credit's due. I enjoyed the solo adventure so far. Normal mode was in no way challenging of course but I had fun. Particularly on the Khadgar vs. Elemental level. I've had loads of fun trying to see how early I can OTK the boss. I'd even say it's better than the first Kharazan fight which has been my favorite. It's definitely easy which isn't great, but it just feels so satisfying throwing tons of huge spells around. Or seeing how long you can go on a 0 cost random generation chain.
As for the normal meta I can't say much. I played a 4-5 rounds of ranked with my old Galakrond warrior deck, and went against what seemed like standard Galakrond rogues every match. Didn't see any new cards, but I haven't even looked at the complete list yet.
Edit: I take that back, one of them pulled Rising Winds from a blink foxLast edited by Thomas Cardew; 2020-01-22 at 12:11 PM.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
I need to finish the Good chapter 1 later and start fiddling with decks.
I wish there was more Dude Paladin support in Standard, but I've been on the fence about making Token Paladin for a while now with RIghteous Cause, so the new card should be fun for that. I might try my hand at Handlock again as well.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Edit: So, this week's Brawl is... just a repeat of last week's? What?
Interesting stuff for Battlegrounds - though I hope that Gallywix and Putricide are mistakes that get fixed soon, both of them are pretty weak and boring. Tirion and Millhouse are interesting additions that could open up different ways to play, though I don't think either one looks particularly strong. Millhouse in particular looks pretty iffy to me, I suspect he might even be our new worst hero, because two gold to refresh is all kinds of horrible, and starting with two gold is pretty awful too, and I do not know that being able to buy for 2 is worth those two big drawbacks. Removal of Finley and promise to bring him back with a better hero power is nice too, he was a sad one.
I am baffled by the demons decisions thought. Remove Voidwalker, but add two new strong ones? Shouldn't they be moving Floating Watcher to four stars with how prevalent Demons have become thanks to it? They effectively buffed them instead, because the new 2-star demon is really good, an early-game substitute for Void Lord that works well with Soul Juggler.Last edited by Zevox; 2020-01-22 at 06:38 PM.

yeah..millhouse seems......bad
2 instead of 3 to buy a minion sounds good...but the 2 to refresh kills him
how many times do you sit refreshing at level 4+ looking for that key addition/triple?
and he gets 1/2 as many chances
also..he cannot level up on turn 2Ponies not only make ME want to be a better person than I was before they entered my life, they make me want to HELP OTHERS be better people too.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
haven't played battlegrounds in awhile, I should do it to try out the new heroes. Millhouse could be good, I'd need to run some play assessments to see how it works in practice. With minions only costing 2, that means minions with battlecry buffs that you play and sell only cost 1, which is pretty awesome. Battlecry minions that generate a creature can be sold at cost, which means early on you can use them to bank coins for a later turn. Millhouse also might collect more minions in hand to generate triples.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Glad this got mentioned, because I was partway through a second run from last week. I played a single game starting from 4/8 and got my pack for this week.
Whatever bug they fixed, they still haven't fixed the final boss crashing when you beat him. Possibly another iOS bug since they seem incapable of fixing bugs on that platform and the streamers I've watched didn't experience the crash.
---
The new Adventure is kinda interesting but also somewhat disappointing. I had forgotten why I was so eager to get away from the old Adventure style - namely, that the Normal mode is made insultingly easy to anyone with half a clue on how to play the game. I don't consider myself a good player - heck, I rarely even make it to rank 10, let alone rank 5 or Legend. Even so, I think I could have played blindfolded and beat Normal mode.
This is especially irritating because the unique part of this Adventure is the pre-made decks where you have a unique Hero power. Getting to play a difficult match-up with a premade deck would have been fun. Instead, they revert to the old Adventure style and let you build your own deck. Do they let you keep the Hero power, so you're building a deck around a new playstyle? Nope. Just bog standard decks.
I beat all of the Chapter 1 missions with unmodified ranked decks. Most of them with Burglary Quest Rogue, one with Elemental Mage and one with Quest/Rez Priest.
I'm glad we're not doing another Dungeon Run. They need to give that format a break for a while and then come back to it with improvements. But this Adventure feels like a regression to the reason why they stopped doing Adventures.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
I was indeed one-and-done - it's a Dungeon Run thing, my interest in replaying it is nil.
I cannot see any of that making up for doubling the cost of tavern refreshes and having him start down 1 gold compared to everyone else.
Actually, I just tried him for the first time, and yeah, he seems truly awful. Odd amounts of gold suck for him because he can't do anything with them, so you frequently waste a gold at the end of a turn. And on top of that, you're always behind everyone else, because you can't tavern up on 2, which puts your taverning further behind in the long run too, and that makes it feel more important to spend your gold on minions to stay alive, but until you get to higher tavern tiers there's limits to how much that's helping... yeah, unless a Wrath Weaver and demons conveniently fall into your lap early, I think Millhouse feels pretty doomed.
He works well with a handful of minions that otherwise can't be easily buffed, like Righteous Protectors, Boogeymonsters, or Festerroot Hulks, plus as noted before he can provide buffs to support units that you're normally stuck with as low-stat special effect auras. Probably not one of the best heroes around, but interesting and has some potential.Toph Pony avatar by Dirtytabs. Thanks!

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Welp, we're back, folks! I missed this place! \o/
Changes since last post:
The adventure is complete and all the new adventure cards are in.
Hunter is the new Rogue.
Tirion is nuts in the Battlegrounds.
No more demon rush (Floating Watcher is now tavern tier 4).
No idea about arena or wild, lol!
And I'm back at 6.5k plus on BT, and climbing the ladder with Mech Paladin.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Huzzah for backness!!
I've been making bank on Arena mostly. The current Arena meta is very favorable to my playstyle which has meant that I can land 3-6 wins on almost every run, occasionally going up to the 10-11 wins and even a 12 wins run.
In Ranked news, I've finally found a Tess Rogue deck that I'm happy with. Since Face Hunter is apparently no longer a thing I can hold down a respectable win rate with it.
Getting a bit sick of Embiggen Druid. It's a fair deck, but it's freaking everywhere and it gets dull playing against it constantly. It's also one of those decks where the game can be entirely decided on whether the Druid high rolls their draw.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Feels good to be back, though I'm not surprised that Embiggen Druid is so popular; it's relatively cheap overall with the only Epics are the Embiggens, Leeroy and Zilliax had proven to be must crafts since their debut, Snip-Snap is a solid card that most people got for free, and Winged Guardian is a Chapter 1 card.
I feel like the problematic element of the deck is less Embiggen by itself, it's the minion cheating out possible through Strength in Numbers. Otherwise the deck is an alright minion-centric midrange with some dragon synergies.
I got both Galakrond's Awakening Heroic card backs, thanks to Mecha'thun Warlock (found a really fast variant on HSreplay that used Supreme Archaeology), and a very cheap Knife Juggler + Test Subject OTK Priest deck. On paper, the Priest deck can do it as soon as you have 5 mana (Knife Juggler + Radiant Elemental + Test Subject, Radiant Elemental reduces the cost of Embalming Ritual and Holy Smite to 0,) but actually carrying out the OTK takes... a while. And in that game with Skruk, I had both copies of Knife Juggler, and it still took upwards of 18 minutes!
On ladder, I've been rocking Galakrond Rogue and Galakrond Zoolock. I'm surprised that Fiendish Servant hasn't showed up more decks, I've been doing pretty good in the Zoolock deck. Though Shot Bot has pulled me towards building a Mech Paladin deck to help counter Embiggen Druid.you know that I'm more than just a doll do you?-Geno

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
Huzzah!
I can speak on the wild front.
Meta continues to be dominated by Mage and Warlock. Reno Quest Mage got a bit of a boost from Licensed Adventurer. Secret Mage continues to smorc it up. Darkest Hour Warlock continues to be irritating to play against. And Mecha'thun Warlock continues to put a hard cap on how long a game can last.
Good news, though, is that every class has multiple viable decks, and there's nothing truly format warping like Sn1plock was. So things are pretty alright.

Hurrah indeed!
Though as far as Hearthstone goes, I basically haven't played since the forums went down, so not much to say there. Too much going on with other games for me. Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
I'm bouncing around the lower 8Ks in Battlegrounds. I reached a high of 8.6K, but am currently 8.2K.
I think the Forums went down before I made legend for the 2nd time ever in January. With BGs, I sometimes have enough time for a game of Hearthstone, but not Battlegrounds, so I'd queue into a ranked game. I won enough with Galakrond Rogue that I hit rank 2 early enough in the season that I decided to just go for it. I misplayed enough that I decided to play a braindead deck and tried Face Hunter, but kept losing to a new Druid deck at the time, so I decided that if I couldn't beat them, I'd join them and played Embiggen Druid to Legend.
To be honest, it felt a lot like I flipped enough coins in a row to hit Legend.

Re: Hearthstone 24: Don't tell the others, but I'm rooting for you!
I can't feel sorry for all the rush decks I've been facing lately. If big taunts and untargetable minions are the only way to beat those decks, then I have no regrets to use embiggen druid, even though I would love to use my mage deck more often, as it is much more fun.
I got on a very good embiggen druid roll this morning. Got from rank 8 to rank 6. If all goes well, I'll be back in rank 5 for the first time since bomb warrior was a thing.
