Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
With likely unearned confidence at deflecting the poorly aimed bench, Taz again draws the energy to harness a powerful blast. Again, she searches for a target, she braces herself to find and disrupt the next attack from the unseen attacker. She calls out through clenched teeth, "does anyone see what is doing this??!"

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
"I don't," Laurelata said as she held her rapier, looking for something to hit, but not directly seeing something, "some kind of invisible fey or ghosts or something. I don't know."
She also moved towards the door to get out of the shrine/temple.

Jessica's eyes widen at the array of auras. She redoubles her focus, mentally compartmentalizing the various colors and shapes into their own categories."Magic!" Jessica cries, now with a hint of irritation. "It's usually bound to a place, so get! out!"

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Hewitt agrees. He doesnt think they were making any progress inside. Without a measure to either take care of whatever was doing it or countering whatever it could do, they were just sitting ducks. "Lets just go outside. We are just putting ourselves in unnecessary danger." He replies trying to convincethe rest about how useless it seemed to be to keep engaging.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Taz readies a defensive blast while Laurelata gets out of the building. Jessica keeps on concentration on auras. Another bench throws itself at Tazmara. It flies perpendicular to its length and hits only with one side, so Tazmara's armor is enough to protect her as the defensive water blast misses it wide.
Spoiler: JessicaThe most prominent aura in the room is that of the bow. It is multicolored and of moderate strength, but that is as much as Jessica could tell at the moment. Another aura is that of Laurelata's armor. It is expected, familiar, and has just left the place. There are lingering transmutation auras on each of the thrown objects, they are all very similar. One somewhat similar but somewhat more dense vaguely humanoid lingering transmutation aura wanders round the room. It stops for a moment and brightens up to faint strength. The same time another one of the benches flashes faint aura and hurls itself at Tazmara.
With your normal sight, you could see nothing special where you detect the wandering aura. You could direct others at it, but they probably won't see it either.Spoiler

From her spot safely behind a wall, Jessica quickly begins recalling details, mostly for Hewitt's benefit. "There was definitely something moving in there- it seemed to be... animating the stuff that came at everyone else. I'm sorry, I don't know what it was, exactly, but it looked like this..."

Hewitt is glad to hear that everyone was finally out. Hewitt replies back to Marius. "Assuming it has a scent, I could summon the dog. And with everyone outside, giving it the proper order should be easier." Hewitt gathers his energy once again to bring forth a celestial dog. He looks at the dog and gives the order. "It really doesnt seem to be working." Hewiit replies disappointed after which he decides to ask his companions. "Shall I proceed with trying to get the summon to engage?". Hewitt wonders if it would be better to just do as he had previously suggested and just close of that area. "I could command the dog to try and retrieve the bow instead."

Jessica nods, a bit dazed by the dog's means of departure. "Whatever's in there, I think it just threw the dog..." She glances back at the chapel, wide eyed and obviously worried. "It may take some serious intervention to make things Right in there... Best we avoid it for now- and warn anyone else that comes ashore to do the same."
She takes a few deep breaths to steady herself, nodding at Laurelata's suggestion. "We'll almost certainly find something at the tree. Hopefully informative. Or friendly." With a visible effort of will, she fixes an optimistic smile on her face as she starts heading towards the plum tree. "or both!"

Taz frowns at Marius's drastic plan. "If a temple is haunted or infested, cleansing and reconsecrating the grounds are what must be done. Unless I were commanded to do so by the good deity itself, I would never burn a temple, even a haunted one," she shakes her head. "I can imagine few things that could greater incur the god's wrath. We will resolve this later," Tazmara adds as she heads toward the plum tree.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
You go towards the plum tree. The shortest path lies through the gates, past some farm houses and between two corn fields. The dog follows the group as commanded, but, being a dog and doing what dogs do, quickly assumes a position in front and even a bit ahead. It stops some short distance from the corn fields and the plum tree, growls, and disappears with a *puff*.
SpoilerThe dog's time is up.

Laurelata sees notices small animal and bird skeletons sparsely scattered in the corn fields. One corn field also contains a partially buried skull of a monkey goblin. You step back and return on the road. The problem is, unless you go around, the road to the plum tree passes very close to one of the corn fields. In any case, the plum tree is standing adjacent to the same corn field.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
You go the long way around - first south from the gate along the road, then west and then north along the road. You approach a pair of trees standing adjacent to a corn field. One of them is an evergreen tree, and another is a fruit-bearing tree with spiny branches and reddish-purple, apple-shaped plums. A few plums have fallen to the ground to spoil in the heat and birds have pecked at others. Nevertheless, there are still many fruits still fit to pick and eat.
Marius unpacks a shovel and starts to dig at the base of the plum tree. He notices a spot on the ground, next to a fist sized stone, where the earth has been disturbed, so he begins from there. Digging a few inches beneath the soil yields a small, flat, leather pouch like a wallet. It seems that the pouch has been buried for a few weeks, but it is not significantly deteriorated.
While Marius is thus occupied, everyone else is looking around for any signs of danger. Only Jessica notices a sudden movement of one of corn stalks that is very unlike the usual wind-caused shaking. Before Jessica could react, the corn walks twenty feet separating it from the ranger and...
