Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Taking care not to be hit in the back, Laurelata makes her way back through the deep water. Not particularly fast, but she does put most of her comrades between her and the grindylows, which should be good enough. Henri slowly moves in the opposite direction, Bec de Corbin ready to strike. Hewitt casts a spell on Lightburn, who advances a bit, but not enough to enter the melee. Jessica conducts a bit of healing energy and withdraws to the place vacated by the eidolon. Tazmara, now mostly alone against the five grindylows, does quite a lot of the best things she could do at the moment: she blasts a grindylow into oblivion and takes his place next to the cave wall and away from more of his kin.
The grindylow facing Tazmara is too horrified with his comrades ultraviolent demise and just waves a spear at Tazmara, unable to make a thrust straight. Two other grindylows charge at Lightburn and Jessica, but, ducking (successfully) Jessica's glaive, slow down their attacks enough that they could be avoided by both targets.
The forth remaining grindylow makes a step to follow others into the battle, but is cried at by the seagull and stops in place, just looking back at the bird and seemingly trying to understand what that is even supposed to mean.
The grindylow in the eastern passage advances, but slowly, seemingly unvilling to take on the party on its own.

Standing behind the group, still with wounds, Laurelata releases the cure spell she still has in her. Then she moves a bit towards the one coming up from the other side and stabs a few times with her rapier to try and scare it off.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Henri attempts to stick the tip of his Bec de Corbin into the nearest grindylow. Jessica is in the way, but Henri manages to avoid this obstacle and thrusts the hammer into the grindylow's face, smashing the teeth in and knocking the creature out on the spot. Jessica brings in more divine energy, and this time more is not just a word. Laurelata and Tazmara feel considerably better. Tazmara concentrates to conjure a water blast, dodges a poorly aimed attack of the grindylow, but fails to aim her own attack well enough and the grindylow dodges too. Laurelata uses her stored magic to finish healing her wounds and is again ready for action. She tries to scare the nearby grindylow with an offer to fight one on one. The grindylow does not seem to be taking fight and instead withdraws some way, but not too far and seemingly more concerned where he's going to than where he's withdrawing from. Laurelata considers chasing the creature further, but notices that ahead of her several heavy rocks are loose in the ceiling. What seems to ba a piece of translucent seaweed runs from the rocks down into the water where the grindylow is now located and from there south across the passage forming a tripwire of sorts. Meanwhile, Lightburn takes a solid bite off the nearest remaining grindylow. The grindylows try to fight back. The one facing Lightburn flails with the tentacles, turning the eidolon upside down in the water, then stabs with the spear for 5 damage, then just passes out from the blood loss and too much effort. The one facing tries mostly the same, but Taz does not let him. The seagull continues to scream at the combat and the last grindylow who is to late to join the party decides he would rather don't come. He retreats quickly east.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Henri glares at the remaining grindylow and its tripwire trap. "So, now what? I can keep an eye on this one. If we try to get it I'm not fast. Someone else should go," says the half-orc as he grips his Bec de Corbin. "You can check out that cavern instead...?"

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
With the enemies down, Taz adjusts her bouyancy and surfaces. She disgorges the water from her lungs rather efficiently, then says with a frown, "I don't think I can hit it without stepping into the trap." After a moment of thought, she add, "we could just ignore it. One of the five swam deeper into the other cave. As danger from coming up behind us go, they are both equally bad at this point."
She then turns to Jessica and says, "thank you. When both of those spears hit me, hard, I really thought I was going to die. Your healing really snapped me out of that fear." She then calls out to the "seagull" with a big smile, "and thank you for your aid!"

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Jessica smiles warmly at Taz's praise, and adds a nod of appreciation to the "seagull" as well. "Before we go anywhere, let me help you all recover more," she offers happily. "I have been blessed as a conduit for a lot of Shelyn's grace." Another warm pulse of energy radiates from the young priestess, and several injuries mend a bit tighter in the moments after.
"All right. I'm with you, Taz. Let's go this way and at least not make it easy for him to drop a bunch of rocks on anyone."

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
You advance east through the cave following the retreated grindylow. The seagull flies to another rock. Sits there for a moment, then says "Chigayo! Pweza! Pweza!" while looking generally north-east. What you see there is a deeper part of the cave, way over the head for all of you. And there, on the bottom that is littered with bones of all kinds, two octopuses seem to be camping in the darkness berely illuminated by your light.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Jessica offers an enthusiast fist-pump and grin to the "Seagull." "Yes, thanks!" she calls reflexively, though she knows that it doesn't understand.
Her enthusiasm is clear in her body posture anyway. "Good idea, Taz. Wish I could be more helpful, but if they get too close, I'll... try... to slice one..." Glancing more closely, she quickly becomes less and less confident that she'll fare well in a duel with the aquatic cephalopods.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
It takes some time for Henri to get to you, but neither octopus seems to eager to attack, so the rest of you mostly just wait. When Henri takes his place in front of the group, you notice a gringylow sneaking behind the corner to the west of you. Not quite cutting your retreat if he's there alone, but still unnerving somewhat. When everyone is ready, Tazmara swims forward and blast a stream of water in the deneral direction of an octopus. The stream of water moves around some bones scattered around the octopus and some more bones are moved by the octopus evading the attack. There is no other apparent effect. The octopods react rather passively. Maybe they do not understend they are already being attacked for real? Tazmara also sees a grindylow, who is not attacking her either.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Henri nods at Taz's kill respectfully. "If they're trained, they're not guard-octopi, or at least they're bad ones. They haven't warned any grindylows about us or attacked, so leave them alone. Let's go back the other way," he says, turning to start the slow but steady swim/walk in that direction. He will stop if he sees any grindylows or when he gets to the edge of the trap.

Re: Ruins of Azlant IC
Taz nods appreciatively to Henri, "let's do that!" She follows the group back bringing up the rear in case any follow.
