    Default Ideas for magic items for Detective Noir character amd NPCs

    I'm brainstorming some ideas for goofy, thematic, yet effective magic items for a Noir Detective character and for future NPCs. The more of a pun/noir reference the name is, the better.

    Things like

    The Gumshoes:
    Adv against being knocked prone in combat x/day.

    The Cracked Case
    Contains a magnifiying glass and pipe. The glass gives adv on Investigation or Identify x/day and the Pipe gives adv on Insight or Zone of Truth x/day. (Different rarities or if spells are used, must recharge at dawn)

    The Hard Boiled's Coat
    Adv against poison and takes twice as long to become intoxicated by alchohol, smells faintly of cigarettes. (Or +1 to Con. Idea ran thin past the name)

    The Wild Goose
    This tiny Iron figurine of a goose can be awakened with a command word and when used, it clears and masks the tracks of its owner and leaves perfectly identical tracks in a random direction for up to 300ft that end in a pair of goose footprints. The figure then attempts to fly and return to you.

    I was thinking something similar, albeit a wand that fired normal strength magic missles but could be used up to three times as an action.

    Other ideas.

    Hat of Shadyness
    This Fedora gives opponent disadadvantage on perception checks to notice the wearer. Also keeps the sun out of eyes and rain off of head.

    Portable office
    A folding door usable once a day that when unfolded can be placed on any wall and then opened into an extradimensional office. Door comes complete with frosted glass sign that says Private Eye or the like. Office is furnished with several filing cabinets, desk, several chairs, broken fan, dead potted fern, and a conspicuously open bottle of cheap hooch, bourbon, whiskey or scotch only. The extradimensional space disappears when the door is taken down and any additional items/people are dumped into the Astral plan. Same thing if extradimensional items are brought into the space.

    The tail
    A matched coin and pair of glasses. Anyone bearing the coin leaves behind footprints that can only be seen by someone wearing the matching glasses. Also, if the individual bearing the coin is viewed through the glasses they appear to have grown an (extra) tail.

    Chin music
    A pair of brass knuckles that allow the wielder to act as if they had the tavern brawler feat. Optional, they play music upon a successful attack.

    Hip flask
    Like it says on the tin. 5 doses, gives imbiber advantage on fear checks and resistance to bludgeoning attacks.

    *a creature that is half maltese dog and half falcon

    *a will that changes itself every time someone looks at it

    *chekhov's gun- fires by itself if it hasn't been fired in a while

    *a dame with legs that literally go all the way up, she's just a pair of legs attached to a head, or possibly even just a pair of legs

    *Hip Flask- an intelligent magic flask with the personality of a hipster

    EDIT:

    In regards to comedy film noir, tou may want to chack out the webcomic Problem Sleuth, the audioplay series Firesign Theater Presents: Nick Danger, Third Eye, and the movies Murder By Death and Who Framed Roger Rabbit

    Building on this, I'd make it a riff on Delayed Blast Fireball where a magic item is deployed and gains 2d6 damage per turn until it automatically goes off in the 3rd or 4th turn.

    Another idea: Gorilla's Hat/Suit: a porkpie hat or suit jacket that transforms you into a modified Ape of ~CR2, for being a hired goon.

    Going on the 30's dieselpunk aesthetic here, might not be what you're looking for, but worth a shot:

    The Hiber-Nade:
    AoE sleep effect.

    The Afterburner:
    I had the idea of a performance enhancing drug (no not like that :P), but could easily be a flame based weapon.

    The Shellshocker:
    AoE with stun or paralysis effect maybe? Those are strong conditions so maybe a very low DC and/or very limited time (stops after taking damage, or otherwise 1 round)

    Jack the Ripper:
    Any cool slashing weapon really.
    Subjectivity is implied in all posts.

    Red Herring: Masks the user from any attempts to track by Scent for 24 hours. Will require a day to recharge.
