Default Lamentations of the Flame Princess?

How close to AD&D 2nd Ed. is LotFP? Would it require a lot of work to use it to run Planescape or Dark Sun?
Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.

Not at all. LotFP is one of the more heavily modified variants of B/X. The only classes are fighter, wizard, cleric, elf, dwarf, halfling, and expert, which is kind of like a thief. There are no psionic rules, druids, ranger, bards, and paladins, and a great number of AD&D spells are not included.

Using it with planescape should be relatively easy. You could just use fighters, wizards, clerics, and experts and ignore the stats of races, and it should be mostly good.

Dark Sun would require more serious conversions since it has considerable amounts if psionics and druids are somewhat important as well.

Most old school stuff is pretty compatible with each other.
As far as running dark suns, there are plenty of materials out there for psionics, just find one you like. The Old School scene is mostly made up of DIY anyways.

78% of DM's started their first campaign in a tavern. If you're one of the 22% that didn't, copy and paste this into your signature.

Mine started in the middle of a desert escorting a courier on a diplomatic mission. After she’s got killed by bandits, things got hectic.

For Gold & Glory from God Emperor Games is supposed to be a retroclone of 2E specifically.

LofFP should work with some houserules.

The only thing I know about it, is that some of the adventures are weird.

VERY WEIRD! (e.g. a giant phallic shaped worm-creature with an extra-special "breath weapon").

    *shudders*

If one likes the system, more power to 'em... Just not my particular cup of tea.

I played a version of 'Better than Any Man' that our ST had adapted for old World of Darkness. Which kind of changed the tone of the game, because....

A.) Thanks to Resources being a background, nobody was really willing to do stupid things for money.

B.) The group included multiple mages and at least one demon. So a lot of the things that would be a fight for your typical AD&D adventuring party was.... small fry for reality warpers and a literal grim reaper.

The adventures I've seen are very good sandboxes which try far too hard to be weird. They're also very intentionally designed for 1st level character with the expectation that the party will go through quite a few iterations, you'd likely be fine running many of them at 3rd-5th level.

Oh, and the artwork is sometimes a case of 'really, why' in terms of horrific content. I love the rules, but seriously the artwork could step itself down a peg or two.

And fun fact: part of the balancing mechanism of the Elf class is giving it an embarassing picture. Possibly the worst idea I've seen in that regard.

Honestly the main problems with the system are 1) the GM book still isn't released, and 2) the upcoming new edition (to be released sometime after the GM book) includes changes based heavily on the designer's personal preferences, changing the magic system wildly and outsourcing Clerics and Demihumans to an appendix (if they appear, I'm not personally convinced). Which isn't inherently bad, but does move the rules and adventures further away from BD&D, which could cause problems if you wanted to use the rules for a D&D setting or run the adventures in another retroclone.

The other thing I've noticed reading the module afterwards, is there was a lot of 'Sucks to be you' options. Like the one monster who's gimmick was it only did one damage, but you got swallowed into an extradimensional stomach if it hit you. And in that stomach was a tougher version of the monster with the same ability.

Only, if you killed one of the monsters, everything inside that monsters stomach was destroyed. Mind you, you have no idea that's the case.

The author seems to believe shock and **** you moments sells stuff, bare in mind his response to people claiming he'd released a module about killing children in a cave was to release a module about killing children in a cave.

And yeah, that monster is terrible, 3d8 hp as well, which means that you're more likely to get bit than to kill the thing. And don't forget the 'you lose all your best stuff' creature (oh, and all magic-user spells), some of the modules are just plain vindictive. I remember the sequel to that one being much better, in that you only had to deal with the two armies and zombie monarch.
