The Sacrificed Faith (A dark monotheist fantasy religion)
I've been building a world that is very similar to the world in Three Hearts and Three Lions. I recently started reading it, seeking inspiration. I was actually inspired to make my world less like it because of how similar it is.
Thus, my world, which originally had a religion that was basically Christianity with the serial numbers filed off, now has a darker take on it.
Instead of referring to a named savior, the church only refers to their “founder” as the Sacrifice.
The priesthood knows that the Sacrifice was not killed to redeem humanity, but drive away some force of evil known as the Bloodless.
Their holy colors are red and grey, representing blood and steel.
The Sacrifice got pierced through by a sword while chained to a steel table.
Big churches claim to have shards of the sword that killed the Sacrifice.
Super-huge churches might have the chains
The Vatican equivalent is built around the table.
Since the Sacrifice was the only sinless human, the priesthood self-mutilates to be closer to him.

Probably just spitballing lore ideas

Re: The Sacrificed Faith (A dark monotheist fantasy religion)
I never read 3 hearts and 3 lions, so my view is skewed. But this seems interesting. It seems less like a religion founded on "good" principles, and more like a religion founded on anti-evil principles. (If you understand the distinction.)
If this is a direct reflection of Christ, but the gods are dark, then I'd have a Jehovah like god that is more like a horrifying elder god. Like Cthulhu.
In this case, everyone wants boons from the god, but nobody wants it's attention. Catch my drift?
