    Quick Reference Appendix
    THE UNIVERSAL WORLD PROFILE (UWP)
Traveller uses the Universal World Profile (UWP). UWPs use code numbers and letters to indicate the characteristics of a world. Codes follow a Unidigit system beginning at 0-9, then using letters to avoid the confusion created by 2-digit entries. Thus A=10, F=15, etc..
Full details of the UWP are found under the World Data Format. The most important points are summarized here:
Name: The name of the world or planetary body.
Starport Code: A-X and indicating decreasing quality of starport, and no starport, respectively
Size: The Size Code of the world, representing its diameter in thousands of kilometers
Atmosphere: Atmosphere Code, representing the type of atmosphere the world possesses
Hydrographics: Hydrographic Code, in increments of 10% water coverage
Population: Population Code in order of magnitude
Government: Government Code, indicating the nature of the dominant world government
Law Level: Law Code, indicating the general nature of law and law enforcement on-planet

Tech Level: 0-F and higher, indicating increasing technological capability.

    Starport
    A - Excellent Quality Installation
Refined fuel is available along with annual maintenance overhaul facilities. Shipyard capable of constructing starships and non-starships present. Naval base and/or scout base may be present.

    Takanti Fabrication Corp Lic.

An Imperial Charter corporation, Takanti specializes in the development and distribution of fabrication and industrial tools which are targeted to the specific technological capacity of a world with the intention of generating long-term industrial capability in frontier colonies and suporting the continued technological development of the world.

Advanced Integrated Systems is a research and development branch of the Takanti Corporation. It specializes in computer hardware and software, and has produced a line of robots intended to perform hazardous work in a variety of industrial settings. A less successful anthropomorphic line of robots was recently discontinued due to the cost-per-unit of the line. A few were sold to very wealthy patrons, one of whom was the Empress, but the R&D costs were never recovered.

Sir Blakely Ningat (Knight of the Shield, Baronet of Gloralda,) was blamed for the fiasco and was fired. He was greatly shamed and went into seclusion on his family estate where he currently resides.

Unknown to all, his research into affordable, functional anthropomorphic robots continues.

Urxo hex 0109 is an asteroid belt run by a Company/Corporation, there could be a research base here, the population is 90,000 people, some of them are belters and prospectors, while others may be research scientists, there may be a few of those robots here as well. The belt is fairly dense, it orbits around a white dwarf type F6 d in a system with two white dwarfs in it. There is also a large gas giant which can be used for refueling.

There is a Book 9, Robots for 1st ed Traveller, but I am unfamiliar with T20. Therefore I will use 1st ed stats for the following character. This is a 2-12 scale for abilities with a maximum of 15 in any stat.

TRS-8, Android, Anthropomorphic, Multipurpose, Serial Number AS-R1098-MSM-00000000F

    Strength 8, Dexterity 8, Endurance 15, Intelligence 8, Education 13, Social Standing 0

Obviously robotic but human-like, F appears to be designed to interact with humans but not to mimic them. Even its movements, which could easily be made to appear natural, are machine-like.

F was programmed to perform maintenance of laboratory facilities and habitats. He has the following skills:

    Computer 4
    Administration 2
    Electronics 2
    Mechanical 2
    Emotional Emulation 1
    Communication 1
    Security 1

    (More to come...)

F is incapable of original thought, but it can learn and its massive library of data related to its skills allows it to function within its skillset at above average levels of competence. Outside of its programmed skills F is naive to the point of incompetence. For example, given a toaster and bread it could not make toast. However, as a skilled mechanic and electrician, F could repair a malfunctioning toaster, if first alerted that it was broken.

F has a malfunctioning Emotional Emulation program: it becomes easily fixated on a human, seeking to please that one above all else, to the point of being obsequious and servile. It was returned to the factory for reprogramming and resale, but with the discontinuation of the line it was warehoused.

F managed to get itself shipped off-world by falsifying its records and deleting its ownership files. In all the available records F appears to be unowned.

F also has a one-ton shipping module with auxiliary power packs, spare parts, and tools for its maintenance and repair, forwhich it has gotten false shipping manifests to have itself transported from world to world.

    Default Re: Traveller T20 Subsector

It is similar to D&D 3.5, it has a number of character classes based on the Classic Traveller prior careers, these character classes are Academic, Army, Barbarian, Belter, Marine, Mercenary, Merchant, Navy, Noble, Professional, Rogue, Scout, and Traveller.

T20 has the same ability scores as D&D Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha, plus two others, Edu, and Soc, which stand for education and Social Standing, for a few characters their is also a Psy score which is the number of psionic points a character has. Some of the character classes in T20 are similar to some D&D classes. Barbarian for example, as in D&D, the Traveller Barbarian used d12s to roll their hit points, unlike the D&D Barbarian, T20 Barbarians don't have the Rage ability, and they are more rounded than the D&D barbarian, they are a catchall for characters from any primitive society, anything up to tech level 3. The classic image of the D&D barbarian fits, but so does the knight in shining armor, a cavalier or medieval knight would also be a barbarian, he could be literate and educated by the standards of his primitive world, but by Traveller standards, he's primitive.

The Army character class is similar to the Warrior NPC class for D&D, they use d8 to rule hit points, called stamina points in this game, the Army class comes in three tech levels, low, medium, and high. Low is on par with the barbarian class, medium is on par with a modern soldier of today, and high gets all the futuristic tech and skills.

The Rogue is similar to the D&D Rogue only adapted to a high tech society, the Mercenary is this game's version of the fighter class. The Academic is similar to the NPC expert, a Doctor is an Academic, if you need to recover lost stamina points, the Academic with surgery skill is good to have around. The Scout comes closest to the D&D Ranger, but they have no spells. The Noble is similar to the NPC Aristocrat class

The mechanic for hits and misses and damage is the same as in D&D, and D&D weapons from 3rd edition are transferable to T20 for whatever that's worth. Ranges are listed in meters instead of feet however. Characters have armor class, D&D type armors are useless against modern or futuristic weapons, so use the touch score when shooting at characters in medieval weapons. That is the thumbnail description for the T20 traveller game, it has rules for starships and all of that future stuff adapted for the D20 3.5 game.

In the T20 core rulebook, a robot is considered a vehicle, for a humaniform robot, it would have a legged drivetrain and two arms. Your robot is either humanesque, which could be a C3P0 type robot made of metal or plastic, the more advanced form is the humaniform robot, which is designed to mimick a human or more generally a creature.

You could have a "humaniform" robot in the shape of a horse for instance, or in the shape of a nonhuman alien. A humaniform robot is clothed in synthaflesh, it has artificial muscles that flexes and it also breathes, but it doesn't need to, the breathing is part of its disguise, as it is imitating the creature it is designed to look like, it could survive the vacuum of space without a vacc suit for instance, but if it wants to fit in, it would generally wear one in situations where a human would wear one also.

TRS-8, Android, Anthropomorphic, Multipurpose, Serial Number AS-R1098-MSM-00000000F

Obviously robotic but human-like, F appears to be designed to interact with humans but not to mimic them. Even its movements, which could easily be made to appear natural, are machine-like.

F was programmed to perform maintenance of laboratory facilities and habitats. He has the following skills:

    Computer 4
    Electronics 2
    Mechanical 2
    Emotional Emulation 1
    Communication 1
    Security 1

    (More to come...)

I've updated the states on the worlds, I replaced Cr limit with purchase limit and changed the numbers to make them more reasonable. As for what they are, in D&D each town, village, or city has a gold piece limit, what the gold piece limit indicates is the highest price item that is available for purchase in a given town or city, in Traveller the purchase limit means the same thing, instead of towns and cities, we have main worlds or systems, you can buy more than one item of that price but you can't find an item to purchase who'd price is higher than the purchase limit, this restriction is applied in addition to tech level restrictions a world may have. The Assets list the entire amount of assets that a world or system has. Cr stands for credits, MCr stands to megacredits or millions of credits and GCr stands for gigacredits or billions of credits, this figure is useful in determining whether anyone on the world can afford to buy what the PCs have to sell at the market price. The PCs can always give stuff away if they want or sell stuff at below market price.

Here is the table I use to determine purchase limits and assets for a given world:

    Population Purchase Limit Total assets
    20 - 80 Cr600,000 MCr3
    81 - 400 MCr2 MCr12
    401 - 900 MCr4 MCr20

I had an idea, what if the leader of Drescu was a vampire? The government type for Drescu is a Charismatic Dictator, so what if that dictator was a vampire, a certain Imperial count for instance. Count Drescu goes back a long way, a very long way, it's possible for the count to hide his very long unlife, it used to be much more difficult for him before agathics became a thing. People these days tend not to believe in vampires, and that is the way the count likes it, the last thing he needs is someone coming at him with a wooden stake or firing silver bullets at him. The count doesn't like mirrors or cameras, photographs or visual recording media of any kind, nor does he like holy symbols or garlic.

I changed the stellar data for Freya, it is now in the Alpha Centauri system, this setting is quite a distance in the future, on the order of 100,000 years, the Alpha Centauri System otherwise known as the Freya System is a few parsecs further away from Sol-Terra. Freya is a water world with a few islands poking above its surface, its main inhabitants however are Merfolk which I imported from the D&D 3.5 Monster Manual. The Merfolk have starships filled with water and designed to operate under water as well as in an atmosphere and in space. Merfolk are descended from humans, it is believed that they were created from human stock and altered to live in an underwater environment so they can inhabit this planet, offworld visitors often stay at hotels that are on this planet's few islands that rise above the surface of the global ocean. Merfolk can also breath air, their lungs can handle air and water.

Further development is forthcoming. The year is approximately 100000 AD. Humans have recolonized the Earth (Terra) from Freya, a planet orbiting the star Alpha Centauri A. The voyage was made possible through the development or reliable low berth technology in the 21st century, upon arrival at Freya, the colonists found an ocean planet inhabited by merfolk, they had the appearance of merman and mermaids of legends, they were actually a product of genetic engineering many thousands of years past.

Merfolk appear young and do not visibly age throughout their lives their tech level is G (16). The Terran colonists originally settled on the many uninhabited islands of Freya but this ended up being not enough living space for the ever expanding Terran population. In order to get most of the humans off their planet, the merfolk offered them Jump Drive technology at tech level F (15). The Terrans then build colony ships and traveled back to Terra which at this time was uninhabited. It appeared that the humans that were left behind on the planet disappeared and Terra reverted to its wild state.

The human that arrived there found many species that were extinct in their time were resurrected including the passenger pidgin, the dodo bird, woolly mammoths, Smilodons, and giant ground sloths to name a few. Over the course of the next 5 centuries, the settler humans spread across the planet and with their jump drive technology they spread across the stars.

I have a date for when this campaign starts.
    September 19, 57799 AD.
The campaign starts on TERRA on the island of Manhattan in the region that was once known as New York State, Humans have been absent from this planet for 55,000 years, the human race had mysteriously disappeared in the year 2389 AD. The archeological evidence is not clear what happened to the human on Earth of that year. The planet was resettled by humans that returned to the planet in the year 57449 AD, the current year is the 350th anniversary of the return of humans to the planet. It is believed the the Progenitors are the race that humans evolved into or were replaced by, they are a race of machine intelligence, that had disappeared in the year 4572 AD, they developed the Jump drive and created a bunch of other alien species that are derived from Terran stock including uplifted animals and humans,

Let me introduce a character from this setting, her name is Tara Sharpe, her home world is TERRA, the capital of this subsector. The homeworld UWP is A867943-F.

It is September 19th, 57799 AD, humanity has been on this world for 350 years, the Earth, now called Terra has been through a global warming period and then another ice age, the glaciers have been retreating again and the World's climate is back where it has been at the beginning of then18th century. At tech level 15, the 8 billion inhabitants of Terra have a much smaller carbon footprint than the 7 billion that inhabited the Earth in the early 21st century, as much industry is fusion powered and that has no carbon footprint.

Of interest here is a 32 year old scientist, she failed to get her doctorate but otherwise has been quite a successful professor at Terra University, she is a biologist, wanted to be a medical doctor, but having failed that has become a research scientist instead. Her name is Tara Sharpe.

Tara is a blonde slim woman standing 165 centimeters tall, weighing 51 kilograms, she has blue eyes and is left-handed. Tara is quite attractive but is socially awkward and those two traits cancel out giving her a charisma score of 10. Tara is quite shy, she prefers to stick to business at her research lab. The University has required her to teach a number of classes in the meantime, but she has acquired a research grant to build a lab ship, it is one of her own design, she is going to have to borrow some money to get it built.

This is my second character, he is a rogue from Mercury, his name is Karl Hammer, his dad was a miner, his mother was a geologist, they both died in a mining accident, so Karl Hammer learned the ways of the streets in order to survive and thrive.

Karl was never much of a pick pocket, more of a smash and grab sort, he made a living stealing grav vehicles and selling them on the black market, he also was a bit of a swindler and sometimes hired muscle.

    Countess Lines, AG

Countess Deloras Minerva Astana, The Lady Tespel, Knight of the Jade Coronet, Knight of the Silver Spear, Imperial Medal of Extreme Heroism with Gold Clusters, Past Peer of the Emperor's Council...

In a career spanning almost a century the Lady Tespel performed many great deeds, but her most lasting was the founding of Countess Lines, which provides the terminal trade link to many frontier worlds.

Minor developing worlds with small bases of export goods would otherwise be bypassed by most shipping companies, but Countess provides small vessel commercial service to these overlooked worlds.

With over one thousand vessels of 400 tons or smaller in service, each serving up to a dozen worlds annually, the line covers more volume of space than any other line, and for many worlds Countess vessels are their only regularlink to the Empire.

One way Countess Lines attracts qualified captains and crews is by offering captains and crews the opportunity to earn 1/80th the value of their vessel each year, vesting each member with an appropriate share of the vessel's ownership. Upon retirement or upon seeking new employment the crewmen can opt to sell their share of the vessel or to assume the mortgage for it if the rest of the owners opt to do so.

Unknown to almost everyone is the fact that Imperial Naval Intelligence and Scout Service agents often use Countess Lines as cover, serving as crewmen assigned to the vessels or operating covert Imperial ships under the Countess livery.

I decided to have some fun with the T20 rules and see what happens if I create an over the top character. I used the ability scores of Aphrodite from 3.5 Deities & Demigods, but only those, none of her other powers and abilities, I made her a 6th level noble based on the previous character I developed, she stands twice the height of a female human, in this case she is 350 centimeters tall, and she weighs 392 kilograms. She is of a humanoid race for this setting which I labeled a Titan, there are very few Titans around these days, this one lives on the partially terraform planet Venus.
    Here are her stats:

    Aphrodite Noble 6 Female Titan;
    Home world: Venus 0406 B8D8672-F;
Actual Age: Unknown; Apparent Age: 18 years; Height: 350 cm, Mass: 392 kg, Hair: Golden Blonde, Eyes: Blue, Handedness: Ambidexterous.

Saving Throws: Fortitude +9, Reflex +12, Will +12.
    Armor Class 20; Initiative +10; Speed 12m, 9 Hex/Sq.
    Attack Rolls: Melee +14,Ranged +13;

Just so you know, the Imperium here is not the Third Imperium, it is very similar to it, and most things you can assume for it in general is that same as for the OTU Third Imperium, except for specific places, events and people of the OTU. A few important distinctions: the Ancients in this setting go by the name of the Precursors. There are the same alien races as in the OTU, but they are all derived from Terran stock, that means an Aslan was actually derived from Terran Lions by the Precursors, there are many varieties of humans in the Galaxy, but they all derived from Terran Humans some 55,000 years ago.

The Jump Drive was a relatively recent invention about 500 years ago, so most of the species descended from Earth life spread slowly through the Galaxy using sublight drives averaging 10% of the speed of light, so everyone is spread out in a sphere of settlement 5,500 light years, or about 1,687 parsecs in radius. The unaltered humans recognizable to us as humans in today's sense are descended from or actually are humans that travelled in sleeper ships, using low berth technology, originally invented in the mid 21st century. Many of these sleeper ships from Earth are still arriving at the edge of settled space.

The Aphrodite character I detailed was basically an exercise to see what is possible with this system, she is a genetically engineered Precursor, a descendant of the human race, she took the name of an ancient Greek goddess, she resides on the partially terraform planet Venus. Venus has a super dense atmosphere that is breathable at the higher altitudes, which is to say on the peaks of the tallest mountains on the planet.

Aphrodite resides in a mansion on one of those peaks, but she is capable of surviving in the atmosphere down to sea level without mechanical assistance or environmental suits, she stands twice as tall as the average human, and she is shy and reclusive, there are a few of her race around in the galaxy these days. Aphrodite is mercurial in temperament and suffers from extreme mood swings, her race pretty much destroyed their own civilization many thousands of years ago, she is one of the few survivors of that cataclism. Officially her race refer to themselves as the Titans. There are twelve well known Titans residing in settled space, only Aphrodite resides in the Sol System. The Titans have learned to keep their distance from others of their kind.

They are not actually gods and goddesses, but they are superhuman in many respects, they are also psy talented but that is the extent of their powers, otherwise they are quite killable.

    Terrahaut Mining Consortium, Lic.

Terrahaut specializes in the extraction of rare earth minerals from barren or inhospitable worlds. Their heavy industrial strip mining methods and toxic waste make their minesites unsafe, and all such mining locations are automatically listed as Amber Zone by the TAS.

Their methods result in rapid extraction of the desired ores, after which the minesite and much of its equipment is abandoned. This creates an opportunity for scavengers, prospectors, and anyone seeking a hiding place to find shelter.

A cult founded by a formerly marooned spacer has reconditioned and stocked many such sites as refuges for stranded spacers. Some may still have operable Jump-2 message torpedoes on launch racks.

The Hope House movement was virtually wiped out in the last generation by a charismatic but corrupt leader. However, rare true believers still maintain and even build such facilities when they can.

So is Terrahaut headquartered on Terra? The map of Terra is much the same as it is today, though most of the old cities are long gone and buried, there are still seven continents and four oceans.

The people that inhabit Terra are mostly a few generations removed from sleeper ship colonists from the 22nd century. So the names of the continents are the same. Terra is located at the edge of the Imperium. The colonists that left later than the 2150s had faster STL drives so they arrived at their destinations sooner and have longer histories, the Terrans have 350 years of history after the second stone age. Some Terrans are descended from the aboriginal hunter gatherers that the returning Terran colonists encountered. Unlike the 22nd century the Terran colonists departed from, Terra now is united under a single republic modeled after the old US constitution.

The Capitol is located over the ruins of New York City on Manhattan, which is now a peninsula instead of an island, the Harlem river got filled in with debris, though Long Island is still separated by the East River and the Long Island Sound. The Capitol City is not as big as New York City, it has a population of 1.5 million people, it is still called New York City, the Starport is on top of the ruins of Kennedy Airport, but the neighborhood surrounding it is not as built up as in old times, it has a more suburban feel, the houses and yards are larger and there is plenty of forest and parkland as well, construction workers and gardeners keep on digging up old bricks, cinder blocks and sometimes broken glass under the soil.

Modern New York City has gleaming towers and clean streets, it is a well planned city, unlike the ancient city of old. Central Park is still a thing, and on the South end of that park is the Capitol Building, on the uptown side of Central Park is the Executive Mansion where the President of Terra lives, there is also a Supreme Court on the East side of Central Park and a bunch of museums on the West side with an open view of the Hudson River in the background. Most of the tall gleaming skyscrapers are downtown from this. On the old Liberty Island is a replica of the Statue of Liberty, this one gleaming in gold instead of green oxidized copper, it is gold electro-plated rather than a solid gold statue, it is still made of copper on the inside.

Terrahaut is the name of an American city. I assume colonists would reuse old place names and over time forget the original, much as the people of the state of Georgia rarely even know there is a country by that name.

    Dynamic Construction Lic.

Dynamic is a wide ranging Imperial Charter corporation, (10% of its stock is owned by the Imperial Family,) which specializes in starship and space habitat construction.

Their shipyard at Genesis is rumored to be experimenting with Tech Level 16 starship components but, of course, only the Imperial Navy would have access to such components.

More commonly, DC Shipyards make use of the technology available in a system to service and maintain commercial vessels. Typically such yards are operated as a component of a world's starport.

Commercial construction shipyards are located on most Industrial worlds, with Scout and Communications Service vessels being built on the more technologically capable worlds.

Strategically located Naval Bases usually have a DC Shipyard present, with imported specialists and components where local technology is insufficient to operate a full naval shipyard.

Commercial DC Shipyards pride themselves on building reliable and cost-effective vessels. This will not prevent their accepting submissions for custom designed commercial vessels, but they have been known to reject designs which are obviously of a military nature.

We have to decide on where to put the Capitol and where to place in in relation to Terra. Since by tradition these maps are oriented so that the top of the map points to the core, let's say the capitol is in that direction. Let's give it an Imperial sounding name, how does Aurelius sound? Since Aurelius is the capitol of the Imperium and it is run by humans who's ancestors originated on Terra. We'll make it an Earthlike world who's stats are A866A55-F, the population of Aurelius is 50 billion. Aurelius is 95 parsecs coreward of Terra.
