Default Need a war domain with longbow? Ordained Champion

    First, a question:
If a cleric of an ideal takes war domain, does she get weapon focus? (No?)
That question's moot, for ordained champion needs a deity.

Ok. So far I've got these 2.
    Shevarash CN War, Strength Longbow
Solonor Thelandire CG Good, Plant, War Longbow

Neither has elf (PBS), which lames.
Any with war, elf, and LB?

My goal is to snatch extra feats for a martial build. For the record, I'll top off with warblade, so that fixes it (Corellon + weapon aptitude). But I've wondered before ...

From the Living Greyhawk deity list you also have the following the longbows as favoured weapon:

Ehlonna [Ehlenestra to elves]: Animal, Celerity, Good, Plant, Purification, Sun.
Gadhelyn (Elf hero-god): Animal, Chaos, Plant
Phaulkon (Suel): Air, Animal, Chaos, Good, Sky, War.
Rillifane Rallathil (Elf): Celerity, Chaos, Good, Mysticism, Plant, Protection, Travel.
Solonor Thelandira (Elf): Animal, Celerity, Chaos, Good, Plant, War, Weather.

I think there is a strong argument for allowing any elf cleric of an elf deity to take the elf domain as well as one of the listed domains.

Both of those have the Elf domain according to my spreadsheet.

Best way is human for PBS (and skills), any war god for WF, and warblade for weapon aptitude. Then just trade 1 or 2 domain powers for feats.

This way you qualify for GMS at 6th, put the cleric dip at 6th or so.

Any war deities with a super groovy domain as second choice? It's only a one level dip, so the spells are minimally important.

I'm going to have to second Troacctid here.

Player's Guide to Faerun explicitly states that Shevarash and Solonor Thelandire offer the Elf domain, right there in the description of the Elf domain.

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting and Faith and Pantheons both say the same thing, though they're 3.0, so I'd regard Player's Guide to Faerun as the more pertinent source.

By RAW, no. The War domain power depends on a deity and that deity having a favoured martial weapon.

You can choose to dedicate yourself to domains without choosing a specific deity. You can say you're a follower of a specific pantheon for example, and not devote yourself to a single deity.

Absolutely, but I think Saintheart's point is that a pantheon or a domain doesn't have a favoured martial weapon (unlike a deity) and therefore the War domain power has no effect being explicit to a deity's favoured weapon.

Good point, though a DM is most probable to let the player pick a weapon rather that deny them a class feature. However it is not a Raw interpretation indeed.

They're not being denied a class feature. A cleric of an ideal not getting weapon focus is a feature of cleric.

Essentially, you trade some restrictions and bonuses of a deity for other bonuses and restrictions.

Sorry to drag this one back up, but I have to revise my earlier opinion when I came across a charming little bit of text from the 3.0 book Defenders of the Faith, at page 7:

A cleric with no patron deity who chooses the War domain still gets the benefits of the domain. The free "favored weapon" for the Martial Weapon Proficiency and Weapon Focus feats depends on the cleric's alignment: good, warhammer; evil, flail (light or heavy lawful, longsword; chaotic, battleaxe; neutral, any simple or martial melee weapon.)
So assuming this rule was never updated, it would still apply. You do pick up a favored weapon when you take the War domain with no god, but it's basically as with Spiritual Weapon for clerics of ideals: depends on the alignment.

I do suddenly remember that. But ... I don't think that works for Ordained Champion.

    Thanks.
