    Default Players needed for PF version of Die, Vecna, Die

    I am looking at running a Pathfinder update of the AD&D 2E module Die, Vecna, Die. I already have three interested players, and I am looking at up to three extras. Because 2E was a very straightforward system, we will be limiting classes and races fairly severely, though a very good argument can create potentially a little flexibility.


    1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)?
    Pathfinder First Edition

    2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)?
    The game will start in Greyhawk, and will move to a couple of different official 2E settings.

    3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many?
    Between 1-3, probably 3. I already have three players, and the module recommends 4-6 total.

    4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)?
    Discord.

    5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)?
    Level 10.

    6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with?
    Standard WBL.

    7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes?
    Classes and races will be restricted to Core only. With classes there may be a little flexibility, but I want to keep with the 2E feel. So definitely no spheres, but potentially things like oracles should be okay. I will need to hear either a good argument and/or a good backstory to explain the class choice. I would prefer Unchained versions be used where they are available.

    8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species?
    Core only.

    9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
    4d6b3 7 times, pick the best six. If that is not a good result, go with a 25 point buy backup.

    Hitpoints are Max for the first level. After that, average rounded up.

    10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so?
    Alignment will be used. PCs may have any alignment so long as they work with the party. Remember that the bad guys for this game are some of the most evil beings in D&D, so make sure you are able to work against them.

    11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it?
    Multiclassing is allowed, but try to make it make sense and be tied into your background.

    12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
    You make yours, I will make mine.

    13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.

    Background Skills
    Elephant in the Room feat tax rules will be in place if you want them, to assist the many martials we have especially. Elephant in the Room


    14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)?
    Keep it interesting. I want at least three paragraphs, but I need it to make the character believable and three dimensional. You can be from other dimensions, but you need to make your way somehow to Greyhawk for the start of the game. Note that we are not using the Pathfinder cosmology or gods, but 3.5E gods.

    15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
    There will be a fair mix of all of these, with less puzzle solving. I find hack and slash boring online, so I will try to reduce any random encounters.

    16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
    Any first party is available, taking into account the Core material rule for races and classes. I want to keep homebrew to a minimum, but a very small amount may be allowed if it is key to a build.

    1) How high power is this game supposed to be?

    2) Are feats core only too?

    3) What are the current players playing?

    Hi there. To answer your questions:

    1: It is low power. Mostly because the original game was balanced for the very low power 2E system, and I want to run the game as described as much as possible. Also, the higher the power level, the more I have to adjust it to keep it challenging.

    2: Feats are able to be from any first party source.

    3: I have so far only a rogue. The other players are still sorting out what they want to play. So run wild.

    I'd also like to ask if Unchained versions of classes are allowed. I've never played Die, Vecna, Die but it sounds fun.

    Okay, I think I'll join then. I rolled 16, 12, 11, 10, 13, 14, 9. Dropping lowest loses the 9. It's a 21 point buy. Should I keep it or just use point buy?

    Edit: Are archetypes allowed? I'm considering making a Zen Archer.

    Unchained is preferred. I will add that to the 16.

    If you only have a 21 point buy equivalent, go for the 25 point buy instead.

    You can take craft feats and use them. But you can’t take cost reduction feats.

    I have some barbarian ideas in mind for this, but how crazy can I go with rage powers? I have two basic paths--one with Beast totem/wolverine claws as a focus, and the other is TWF with sawtoothed sabers and elemental rage stuffs.

    Alright then. One last question: The claws gained from Beast totem go from d6 to d8 (or d4 to d6 if small...) after you get the final Rage power in the set. Can I increase them a size category further if I take the Improved Natural Attack feat, or would you say they don't stack?

    The wealth at level ten is reasonably low. So I don’t think crafting feats will break the game.

    Do you have a link to the hedge wizard? All I can find for it shows a fairly weak wizard which is also third party so would be banned anyway. Am I missing something?

    I will allow the INA to stack. It only averages to an extra two points of damage per attack. Which is reasonable.

    I wasn't planning on taking hedge wizard, I was just using it as an example. It's a trait that reduces the cost to make any magic items by 5%.

    Please let me know if this is moderate crazy or too crazy. She kinda punches like a 6th level fireball and can outrun a damned horse, but I figure this is comparable to an actual wizard with a fireball.
