R7T17: Moving cautiously off the pier, Jens will plant his feet on terra firma and ready himself for the approaching Monster.

R7T14: The gibbering mouther goes off the side of the pier into the water.

R7T13: Meanwhile, Flair stands, his feet now on - well, not dry land per se - but enough that drowning was no longer immediate threat. Knowing that there were party members under water, he stretched his arm out as far as it could and tepe'd, "Vilma, grab my hand!" as he does in fact grab onto her hand, but is not yet able to pull her out so much as he is only able to pull her closer.

R7T12: Dorn continues to slog forth.

R7T8: Vilma, you are no longer underwater, and Flair is grabbing you by the weapon arm, pulling you closer. What do you do?

Now out of the water, Vilma gets out of the pier, on a part that's not occupied by someone, trying to reduce the distance she'll have to travel while catching her breath.

Iirc, you can move while grappled, as long as you stay in a grapple valid position, right ? Then getting on the pier before circling around Flair to get on solid ground.

R8T18: A little barely-lit cloud (or at least, what you see of it) gets closer to shore, but farther away.

R8T14: From an unseen area underneath the pier, there is a howling and gibbering. There is a strange quality to it, though, as if the gibbering is a carrier wave with something more strident brought through on vocal waves, something only Flair can hear, sense, and understand.

After a quick tepe, Flair answers in the strange language, though he made sure to step back out of the water.

Flair doesn't get any more response. Nothing Flair says in the next minute will be met with a response, but neither is there any more gibbering.

Diplomacy is most assuredly NOT a FRA, but usually requires at least a minute. That said, it is possible that all that was needed to be said was said.

After Flair finishes his speech and doesn't get a response, he'll look for any sign that the beast is simply biding its time. Barring such evidence, he'll turn to the rest of the party. "I think it's gone now. Now that we don't have to worry about being drained dry by that thing, our first priority is to find where Wren ran off to. After that, we resume searching here for Jaume's evidence." He turned to the newest addition to the party. "Vilma, he's your friend, any clue where Wren went?"

“Everyone stick together. Wren! Where are you!” shouts the big man, cupping his hands to the side of his mouth.

Erastil does not answer the call of greed, but he does aid his servant. Though as wounded as before, Brother Jaume's bodily processes are refreshed some. In addition, the lesser restoration likewise cut some of the fatigue that Brother Jaume felt still lingering from being poisoned.

No sign of Wren, and no answer to the call.

"I think we may have just set a new record on 'quickest descent into madness' for this group." Jens says through the downpour, "So, who wants to go swimming for rumored items of import with that creature possibly still stalking the waters?"

BJ will once again risk the rickety pier to see if he can locate the hidden bundle.

"Wait!" Flair says before the monk can cast his spell. "Firstly, we're not done looking for Wren, so hold off on that. Secondly, though, we should try and tie you off before you drop in, in case that beast is still out there waiting"

Vilma looks at the one that made the collective.

"You forced your mind into one that managed to pass for a doctor in an asylum overtaken by monsters. Do you really think that's surprising ? And no. I don't know where he might be hiding now, since I don't really know that place."

Flair pinched his brow, "Fine. We'll let Wren find us when he's ready. Vilma, do you have any rope we can use to give to Jaume when he searches under the pier? I'm not 100% certain the thing didn't just decide to lay in wait."

She takes out a rope and hands it to Flair.

Flair nods his thanks before securing it around Jaume's not-insignificant belly. "Okay. You cast your spell and take a look under there, we'll keep the line taut. Tepe once you find what you're looking for and we'll drag you back in, but don't stay down there too long, as I'm not entirely sure that the mouther has gone."

“Good thinking, Flair! I am off!”

Brother J will check topside of the pier first before casting the breathing spell and checking below, using his staff for light.

Glowering at Vilma, Jens responds to her verbally over the rain, ”First off, I reject the insinuation there that the collective was ‘forced’ on Wren, or yourself for that matter. Both of you were duly informed on the benefits and utility of the collective and agreed to use it. You both are also free to leave it at anytime, but doing so limits what aid I can provide.
Secondly, I find it more likely that the appearance and screeching of that beast had an unnerving effect on Wren. Possibly he is in a state of confusion and paranoia. We can only hope he snaps out of it on his own, or at least does no harm while in that state.

Brother Jaume goes a-rootin' and a-rummagin'....

Dorn, who finds that he and everyone are pretty much shouting anyway in the hard rain and that might be guiding tempers astray, speaks up (loudly), "Vilma, yes, remember that Jens let both of you know the benefit of the collective and the telepathy on the way here. Like you, Wren seemed just fine, and was not at all surprised. However, after he came close to the gibbering mouther, he started to mention things known about it, but then both behavior and telepathy from him became wild and erratic. I believe he may have suffered a psychotic break once he was staring the horror in its many-eyed face."

Flair groaned as he held Jaume's line. "Hopefully he'll work his way through it, but regardless, there's nothing we can do for him right now, especially with him missing like this."
