    Default [Shadowrun 6e] New Shadowrun GM. Missions Campaign [Closed to New Interest]

    DEATH OF A FIXER


    When the dust settled, there was not much left bigger than a soccer ball. Everything had been reduced to rubble – the entire three story building was now just a pile of concrete, rebar, and other clumps of twisted metal laying in the lot of Redmond where the fixer’s headquarters once stood. The destruction was the result of a war in the shadows; one where no one was the winner, and everyone was the loser, in one form or another. A few of the more dedicated shadowrunners had arrived too late to the scene, and now used both technology and majicks to search the morass of jagged concrete for any sign of life. It did not take long before the worst was confirmed – the fixer who had once reigned over this section of the sprawl, and had also been one of the best fixers of the entire Seattle Metroplex, now lay dead and torn amidst the rubble. Digging out the body also uncovered some of the fixer’s prized possessions – a cyberdeck and storage unit, their armored cases miraculously providing them protection against the crushing collapse of the building, were discovered. Also found was an armored and fireproof box which, upon further examination, contained a copy of the fixer’s last will and testament – dated only weeks before. But it was the storage unit that was the most interesting…

    …It wasn’t until almost two days later that the runners were able to crack the encryption on the files and get to the paydata contained within. What those datachips contained was nothing short of the key to the late fixer’s entire empire: contacts, runners for hire, markers, access codes, blueprints, reconnaissance photos, and miscellaneous tidbits of “compromising information” that could be used to blackmail or otherwise ensure cooperation of many of Seattle’s most influential and important political and corporate figures. Needless to say, the data was worth millions of nuyen, and possessing it alone would make someone the target of all the other predators and scavengers of the shadows that smelled the opportunity. The runners had not survived this long in the shadows though by playing things stupid. They knew that only more conflict and war could arise from releasing most of this data into the world – conflict that could end up catching them all up in its folds and spitting them back out as corpses. The fixer had somehow foreseen this eventuality however, for the will contained instructions on what to do should the data be recovered. They all saw the wisdom of it – divide and conquer. The will contained a list of almost a dozen of Seattle’s fixers; some more well known than others, some less powerful, but all had worked with the deceased at some point, and were known to be among the more “honorable” people that kept the shadow community on an even keel. So it was determined that invitations be sent out to these select few, and that they be gathered for a secret meeting to find an equitable way to distribute the data so that the balance of power could be maintained and the powder keg of another war in the shadows could be defused…

    …A week later, and the select few agreed to the terms of the meet. Downtown, in Freeway Park, would be the location. In order to help ensure trickery and double-crosses, for even these fixers were worried about such, it was determined that a team be assembled to provide security for the event. These shadowrunners would be chosen by the fixers – each one could recommend a team member, but it had to be an unknown, someone who had little or no stake in the outcome of the meeting, and may not have even met the fixer who hired him or her. Not all of the runners were available, but those that were able to do the mission received directions to meet at a local downtown bar…

    PLOT SYNOPSIS


    It’s a dangerous world and substantial shadow assets are being divvied up at a meeting. One hour of uninterrupted bargaining and auctioning is required to complete the deals. The meet is taking place in a public location, Freeway Park in Downtown Seattle, and that should minimize the risk of interruption – but additional special security is required for guarding and to guarantee absolutely no interruption for the specified hour. A deal is reached for each participating member in the meet to supply a runner as a guard. These runners are required to be new to the Seattle shadow scene to avoid compromising loyalties. The runners are to cooperate in providing the meet security. Of course, they’ll also be watching each other.

    In the hour that they must provide security, the runners will have to deal with the public, roving gangers intent on havoc, and the machinations of a rival fixer determined to nab the goodies and remove his opposition

    I love me some Shadowrun, not familiar with 6E, but looking over the rules now and certainly willing to give it a shot.

    Probably looking at a former Lone Star officer who discovered some corruption in the organization, reported it, targeted by fellow officers and betrayed. After being left for dead he was approached by a spirit with whom he bargained. As the cop lay dying, the spirit led a troll shaman to the awakening adept. The shaman was able to heal the ex cop and guide him on his new awakened path.

    Basically a high agility gun specialist adept with a smattering cop skills.

    I assume since you’re just starting it up you’d want a more basic character? I have always wanted to play an AI decker. That said, it doesn’t take much to get me to play a decker of any stripe. Is there a quickstart or pregens I could use to not have to buy the book right away?

    I don't know 6E. But I'll see if I get hold of a copy and have a look.

    As a foil to a Physical Adept, I'd probably either go full-on Zap-Zap Mage or Decker. Either one with a spoonful of Face.

    I've always wanted to try Shadowrun after playing the CRPG and would love to join this campaign. Not sure about roles in 6E, but the Shaman character from the CRPG was a cool class. Otherwise, a drone hacker / user would be neat if that's one of the classes. :P

    With a gunslinger adept, a decker, a full mage and a drone rigger guy we'd have a decent 4 man core group that's for sure.

    If you find a character builder let us know! I'm an old grognard, but not sure I want to scratch pad a character for a PbP, most generators just stat block the info in a much more organized manner.

    A four person team seems good for a first time GM. I'm on my phone right now so I can't post much, but when I get to my computer I will update this thread into a proper setup thread. Do we need a full sixteen? The basic premise is a group of individual runners getting their first bite of shadow life and meeting for the first time. So you'll want to build characters that are just starting their shadowrunner career.

    More game details when I get to my computer later

    Since I know character background and motivation is so important in Shadowrun in general, I wanted to share some of what I had envisioned for my hacker.

    Her background is pretty standard. She was an Australian university student with a promising career in matrix programming when her goblinization happened. She developed the Ork metatype and rapidly became the target of discrimination and hatred even from her closest friends who didn’t understand what was happening. Isolation led to distancing, which led to a loss of grades, and finally to getting kicked out.

    She tried going back to her wealthy family, but they wanted to have nothing to do with her, basically paying her off to go away quietly. She found herself taken in by an underground community of Ork mutual-aid societies where she sharpened her skills in “nefarious” ways - clearing electricity bills, scrubbing SINs, etc.

    In terms of appearance, she favours black clothing, covered by a green armoured jacket. She mostly wears a thin-strapped black tank-top, black jeans, and heavy-duty boots. Her hair is dyed blue, with a half-shave on the left near her datajack. She’s not very good in a fight, but she is very good in the Matrix.

    I forgot to add that she is a rabid Final Fantasy fan, and I hope for her that in the Sixth World FFXIV is still running and cool, or that they have a new MMO. Her Matrix environment is a pastiche of FF and her avatar most commonly that of an Astrologian from that game. Her “handle” currently is Astrologian in fact.

    Edit: I’ve mostly finished Abby “Astrologian” Ballard using the gear from the pregen. Now, I’m just deciding a few last gear items, especially whether or not I want a cyberjack (I probably do). I’ll put up the sheet soon?

    Nope. That's sort of the whole point of this. I learn a system best by jumping in and playing. So expect some stumbling and flailing while I adjust to the system.

    The restrictions on negative qualities seems ... arbitrary ... only allowing six seems weird, because you can take cool RP type qualities for example, for my ex-cop I was thinking SINner, Code of Honor, Prejudice [Lone Star], Bad Rep, Insomnia ... which are all cool flaws to roleplay ... but rather than limit the value of drawbacks, the actually number of qualities is limited, actually rewarding people for taking the higher value drawbacks to leave more slots for advantages.

    Will work on the sheet further, but that's bare bones as it gets for now, will have to manually update gear etc, nor is it tallying any specialties, but I will get it ironed out soonish.

    Zero, I hate to be the guy to break the news, but you can only use your base Magic Rank to purchase Adept Powers, not your adjusted Rank. So with a D in Magic, you only get to choose 1 PP worth. I face the same issue with spells. Also, C Skills is 20 points, not 24.

    Okay, I'm almost ready. Just some final dithering over spells or specializations (I have 15 Karma left), plus Gear.

    I'll try to get up a more detailed backstory, but the idea is she was born poor, and Latina, and Ork (to a human family) in the deepest, darkest generational poverty. And she decided hard work was the only way out. So she worked and worked and worked, but when she 'got out' the combination of misogyny and racism and species essentialism meant she couldn't get anywhere and so when her mom got sick and she got a chance to step off the straight and narrow she took it. And it's been a long, reluctant slide ever since. This might even be her first 'real' job after quitting/being fired from her old corp.

    The adjusted magic thing got errated in January I believe, however if we're going to go with RAW Core book only I'll tweak it a little. I have been screwing around with the excel spreadsheet so I need to tweak it. There formatting for sheets is driving me nuts lol.
