    It's actually my bad again on the Rogue sneak attack thing. I was looking at a 5e srd that I guess had a bad transcript, but it failed to mention once per round. This had never came up for me in a game before, so it seemed like a bad thing to allow in gestalt.

    No you do not take standard.

    Also, just to state this in case anyone was confused. Your gear choices are just that and don't need to effect your background. For example, a very wealthy thief could have the Noble option.

    In progress sheet for Caleb.
    Just need to do some shopping (optional)
    And write up his backstory (not optional)

    Edit: also depending on party composition I could swap resilient for magic initiate (cleric) for healing word

    Caleb is a bit of a jack of all trades high mobility DPS/Tank who ensures that the agro is firmly on him with sentinel and the high mobility that rogue grants

    Posting interest. Currently thinking of going Ranger (Gloom Stalker) // Rogue (Assassin), Half Elf, archery specialist.

    Sorry for the double post, I realized too late that I might have rolled the special equipment in the same post. (1d20)[20]

    Edit: if I gain fighting style from two sources, such as ranger/fighter, do I get to pick two styles or one?

    Spoiler: Background (WIP)
    Show
    "You, why are you hiding your face? Are you a wanted criminal?" The voice was harsh and accompanied by the smell of alcohol. "Hey, I'm talking to you. Take off that hood!"
    Without looking up from his mug, the hooded person answered: "I'd rather not, good sir."
    "Take it off, or I'll rip it off."
    The person in the cloak sighed and pulled back the hood, exposing her face. The sounds in the tavern quickly died down. Then, ushered words here and there.
    "She's got horns." - "Maybe her father was a goat." - "She's a creation of Miskial!" - "Aren't we all, I mean, technically..." - "Oh shut up!"
    "So your father was a goat?"
    "Did her eyes just flash red?" - "Just a reflection, I reckon." - "Oh shut up!"
    "I guess it is best if I leave. Here, I think this should suffice." Stacking a few coins beside the mug, the man picked up his backpack from the floor, swiftly approaching the tavern door.
    "Where do you think your going you daughter of a - a - goatlover?"
    "I came here for a few well-earned ales and maybe a quiet pipe afterwards. As it appears I got stuck at step one -" Somewhere a low giggle.
    "You! You're not going anywhere! I'll kill you on the spot."
    Without reacting to the sound of the drawn blade, the young woman in the cloak continued towards the tavern door. "I'd rather not fight, but it appears you made this decision for the two of us. I suggest we take it outside. While I understand that you prefer to have an audience, the look on our host's face says that he'd rather see his furniture intact and his drapes free of blood." She pulled open the door, tipped her imaginary hat to the innkeeper (who answered with an unambiguous gesture), and stepped outside into the night. The door fell shut, muffling the discussions inside.
    Soon, it flew open again, the man with a drawn blade stumbling outside. "I'll kill - what, what is this?" Anger had turned to surprise. As another blade was drawn, surprise turned to shock. "No, I can't ... you... please."
    "Stop the pleeding. As I said, I'd rather not fight. Not today. Count to ten, then go back inside. If someone asks, tell them I was already gone. Or tell them that you peed your pants because it was so dark. Your choice."

    From Knight Lancer to Freelancer
    Years ago, it all had been different. Years ago, when this stupid artifact still worked. If only her parents had told her how it could be recharged, before they vanished. She had feared that it was bound to stop working eventually, and that it would lead to her demise. Well, it only led to her inhonorable discharge. Once a knight lancer of Devonar, they took it all away from her, stripped her of her title and the small piece of land she was given as an Awakened.

    Roaming the Lands
    But fortunately, Vel is big enough to find new work. After doing plenty of freelance work in her homeland, she crossed Jhall as quickly as possible, and finally reached Brunel. Although people here were more open minded than anywhere in Vel, she still found it useful to hide her appearance most of the time, under hood or helmet.

    Spoiler: Planned Build
    Show
    Tiefling
    Primary: Ranger (UA, not sure which archetype)
    Secondary: Fighter (Banneret aka Purple Dragon Knight)
    If allowed, I'll pick up the fighting styles "Archer" and "Close-quarters Shooter" (UA)

    Spoiler: Stats

    15, 15, 14, 14, 13, 12
    STR 12
    DEX 15 -> 18 ASI
    CON 14
    INT 13 -> 14 Tiefling
    WIS 15 -> 16 ASI
    CHA 14 -> 16 Tiefling

    Character Sheet (Very early draft)

    Questions:
    1. Assuming I get two fighting styles, can I take "Close Quarters Shooting" even though this is not an underdark campaign?
    2. Is it alright to assume that I once was a Knight Lancer? I picked Devonar because of their nobility-awarding policy, and because they seemed to offer the "highest fall from grace".
    3. Do you think the "Banneret" (or "Purple Dragon Knight") archetype from Sword coast adventurer guide would fit for a Knight Lancer?
    4. Would it be okay if my parents had supplied me with an artifact that hid my Tiefling appearance for many years, but eventually stopped working?

    Sorry for the late reply, I had a bit of a coronavirus scare that fortunately was just that.

    Alright, recruitment will end on the 13th and I will pick players on the 14th or 15th. Work is finally slowing down enough that I can give this game the attention it deserves.

    Very interested! 5e, gestalt, and a "heirs to the fallen heroes" plotline all scratch an itch for me.

    Done! Here's Paul Santora, Gloomstalker Ranger//Soulknife Monk. I'll paste backstory here in a second.

    special equipment: (1d20)[16]. That's the 'Magic" robes!
    Shield Charm (savage background): (1d4)[4]

    Spoiler: ten minute background
    Show

    Essential Qualities: also, sorry that the image is a little bleh. Hard to find ranger pictures that don't have five belts and piercing blue eyes.
    1. Paul is the child of Morrigan, the best and brightest Lancer Morcanos has had in generations. She raised him, uh, indirectly. Lots of leaving him on an island and going off to hunt the enemies of mankind. Very Fullmetal Alchemist.
    2. Paul is an excellent seaman. Not many people can swim as fast as they can run! Didn't exactly want to stay on the island.
    3. Paul is also a witch. Well, not actually-- he's no full caster-- but like his mom before him, Paul can heal, ward, and go untouched.
    4 He's relatively unexperienced, as Lancers go. Lots of training (Morcanos takes that sort of thing seriously), but little battlefield application. He's killed before. Doesn't like it. Most of the time, he signs up for recon. A good stealth, a ridiculous speed, and +10 initiative with advantage lend themselves towards not getting into fights.
    5. Despite everything, Paul is kind, empathetic, and... reserved. He hasn't had a lot of people time, but he would like to.

    Goals:
    1. Raise a kid. Really! In more of a Batman/Robin way. It would be nice to take an isolated kid and teach him to open up. I'm talking about Paul, of course.
    2. Hunt a dragon. Morrigan did it!

    Secrets:
    1. Paul's dragonmark isn't his. He was underperforming in the Lancer division, and Morrigan was getting on in years, and she.... gave it away. cough cough my hero academia cough cough. Did she die because of this? Well, maybe. Paul certainly thinks so.
    2. Paul's dragonmark not being his is! Bad! Sure, it lets him go ridiculously fast and be untouched and teleport, but, in traditional BNHA fashion, he's not big enough for these britches. What does that for him? I'm not sure. Maybe his body is falling apart. Thoughts?

    Connections:
    1. Pastel. Silly name, best friend. A Lancer companion, specializing in horseback archery, and very much aligned with the Bloodlancers. Potential clash in loyalties? Side quest hook? Romantic interest? Yes!
    2. Abraham. That's his dad! It's less of a deadbeat situation and more of a well, he split with Morrigan ages ago, and this was always more of a whole "give me an heir for maintaining Morcano's defenses, and I'll raise him". They had a good friendship! And sometimes Paul and him go surfing.
    3. Francisco. Low-life criminal, doing low-level crimes. The academy sent Paul on a pretty basic "hey, go stop those crimes!" thing, and Paul didn't kill the guy, because... of course not. He's a person! Now he's a contact, a sometimes friend, and a reminder that Paul isn't the best at following through with murder things.

    Skipping the memories because this has taken a lot more time than ten minutes and I have a paper to write. Physical description: chatty, squirrelish, and distinctly nineteen. Not a large kid, or an intimidating one. Psychic power (because Paul doesn't punch you--- he touches you, and tears into your brain) doesn't necessarily translate into brawn.

    Mechanically, Paul's mostly about getting in close and making vulnerable targets (casters, mostly) have a bad time. 55ft base speed-- +10ft in the first round, and +10ft with Longstrider-- a +10 Initiative bonus, rolled with advantage-- and the ability to dash as a bonus action (Monk) and halve his speed to be immune to AoO's, period (Mark of Passage Human) makes his first round pretty obscene. Get in close, hit with 5 attacks (base plus extra attack plus Gloomstalker's Deadly Ambush plus Flurry of Blows) and use the Soulknife Monk's abilities to, say, frighten his targets, or teleport them 10ft in any direction, or make them vulnerable to psychic damage for a round, no save. That last one makes his round two pretty obscene, too.

    Defensively, he's not all that. 21 AC, good saves, evasion, Absorb Elements! But he's lacking in anything like Paladin auras or easy access to the Shield spell. Against something that can kill him in a round, his best bet is burning through his Ki on a million Stunning Strikes, and hoping repeat DC 16 Con saves are enough to nail the thing.

    Just finished Variel, Ranger (Gloom Stalker) // Rogue (Arcane Trickster). Personality and Background are in the sheet. He's, uh, not nearly as powerful as the previous Gloom Stalker but hopefully shouldn't be too bad when he gets Sharpshooter and an ASI or two to fill up his DEX and WIS.
