Xeshanth purchases 9 scrolls: Air Bubble, Detect Secret Doors, Endure Elements, Glue Seal, Grease, Hypnotism, Identify, Protection from Evil, Snowball. (EDITED as he already knows Obscuring Mist)

then he spends his day at work. At the cost of 10 gp of writing materials and 2 hours each, he'll try to learn the following and copy them into his spellbook (Spellcraft DC16):
    Air Bubble (1d20+10)[16]
    Grease (1d20+10)[17]
    Identify (1d20+10)[14] - fail
    Protection from Evil (1d20+10)[20]

Apparently also important: (1d20+6)[20] Gerald grapple attempt again.

Assuming this is essentially round 1 (or two?) Nathaniel will be assisting, and will continue as such until the man is successfully bound.
(1d20+1)[19] vs DC 10 to assist

So, I am trying to avoid "starting an encounter" when it may not be necessary. However, the odds of a diplomatic resolution are low - the failed Bluff attempt and rushing through a Diplomacy check aren't working. In addition, as you all have already realized, if the Lotus Dragons are protecting this man and the entrance you all think is here then the thieves who have been tailing you all day won't wait forever to make their presence (and displeasure) known.

@FarmerBink your checks are enough to re-grapple. I was suddenly thinking 3.5 D&D grappling when I asked for a check to oppose his escape. He beat Gerald's CMD, so got free, but then Gerald beat his CMD again, so he's re-grappled. If this struggle continues for long, we will need to start counting rounds of combat. Since your intentions are clear, I will roll again and if we need to continue this as the beginning of an encounter I will post accordingly.

Hope that clears up any confusion here. If not, let me know.
