As he looks at his shoulder, Bokken puts his fingers on, and lets run through his finger - Beltin's silvery, diaphonous cloak. "I will give you a better healing potion and the four lesser potions for it! It is so pretty!"

Beltin removed the cloak and held it for a few moments before passing it over. "Deal. Wear it in good health."

Beltin smiled wistfully, though it turned genuine soon thereafter seeing how much the hermit enjoyed it. "I'll be honest, I think it looks better on you that it did on me."

Beltin seems to weigh his options for a second before nodding. "That'd be wonderful, thank you. We were planning to camp out and have one of us keep watch all night, but this seems like a much better option."

"Yes," says Sajan emphatically, who otherwise would have had the watch tonight. "Yes. it. does."

While Bokken does his best to be a host, and he doesn't mind company .... and his potion-making skills seem to carry over into him being a decent cook .... still it should become obvious as the night wears on that while a few strangers are welcome as a rare treat, the seclusion promised at this location is too much for the hermit to resist.

Bokken will broach the subject of when Beltin and his friends might go southwards to look for fangberries for him. It turns out that somebody recently purchased all but one of his potions through trade (gee, I wonder).

Further, he’s likely to mention his younger brother if any conversation is allowed to go on long enough—Bokken spits as he does so, bitterly holding up his right hand and indicating his missing pinky finger: “Bastard cut that offa me the last time he hit my mother, Desna rest her soul. But he took off right after to live in a hollow tree down south rather than face the guards, so I guess it all worked out well enough.”

Bokken decided to become a hermit a few years after his brother (whose name, like many other details of his childhood, he can’t quite recall due to senility) left home and their parents passed away. Originally, Bokken had toyed with the idea of tracking his bully of a brother down and getting revenge, but the wildlife in the Greenbelt was too frightening and dangerous, so instead he settled down not far from the edge of Rostland to live the rest of his life in nature.

Beltin does his best to be a gracious guest. When the subject of heading south is breached, he tells him that as soon as it warms up enough for them to take some horses, he'd be glad to go searching, but for now they were exploring the immediate area surrounding the trading post.

When the topic of Bokken's brother comes up, he will ask if he has an idea as to where his brother left to. If he's holed up with the bandits, that might prove useful once it's warm enough to go searching for them.

Totally not even questioning Beltin's worries about winter weather and the fact that Beltin and his two friends seem okay (and the wolverine is welcome to stay in the hut, though Lini admits "that won't be necessary"), Bokken chirps, "Oh, you could seek out Yadmila! Ask Oleg howtofindher. Shelives somewhere neart the tradingpost. 't'other side, I think!"

When asked about his brother later on, Bokken is already lost to questioning, muttering and slowly growing weary. You have been fed and shown where to put your bedrolls (in very close company), and come to think of it fatigue is really wearing on Beltin now.

Sunday, 14 Pharast (First Night of the New Moon) ...

That morning, the three of you are sure to say whatever prayers you need to observe the holy day of the week as you do your morning routine. This morning, Beltin forms a scimitar made of magic itself crafted into fire and shaped into a scimitar! Beltin has no idea what to make of such a power.

    Efreeti's brass scimitar (hands only)

He wants to hear more about this strange magic you wield .... but not today. He sends you out after a bowl of a hot porridge and making sure your water is fresh and clean.

This morning, Lini will have called forth a snow owl for her droogami.

The trio head out and get to Oleg's Trading Post in the early evening without any problem, and check in with Linzi and Harrim.

When Beltin asks Oleg and Svetlana at dinner about somebody by the name of 'Yadmila,' they smile. Supposedly, she travels around the northern Greenbelt making sure travelers are safe in the winter, but spends much of her time at her cottage a handful of miles "the other way" along the South Rostland Road. See, the South Rostland Road heads almost due east to get to Restov. But the trading post is actually the point at which the road then makes a marked shift to the northwest.

That night in meditation, Beltin will learn to bind the scimitar-veil.

    Anything else that night?

Upon hearing this, Beltin will excuse himself to grab the map they've been annotating, asking if they can make a rough estimate as to where her cottage is.

Oleg sticks his fat finger in the little strip of the South Rostland Road that heads northwest from the cottage. He has no sense of scale, and only knows it "can't be so far as to be off the fancy map."

Beltin discusses his plans for tomorrow with Lini - to adjust exploration "circle" to explore the northern spur of the Southern Restov Road as it leaves the trading post, ostensibly to find this "Yadmila."

Moonday, 15 Pharast (2nd Night of New Moon) ...

It is another freezing cold, clear, dry day (low 10, high 25). The trio had an early meal and let out early that day, Beltin not even taking time beyond normal akashic meditation to "explore," but rather to shape the life-saving gauntlets and toga. The gauntlets don't make him comfortable, and he does wear his cold weather outfit, but the "feel" of the cold is all around him, and before long, Sajan points out the colorful sash that has formed around Beltin's waist as the latter focused on the cold and philosophical death that such cold and winter brings.

Since it is an area exploration, and since Lini is the map-master, she still has the group going off-road to the east, then crossing to cover west, then returning down the road. It is on the return trip in the late afternoon that the group will see a roadside shrine and a cottage with wisps of smoke about 75 yards to the west. Sajan easily recognizes the roadside shrine as dedicated to Sarenrae, a goddess of healing and the sun. Not unknown in these parts, but also not particularly well-known or popular.

Much like he had with Bokken's hut, he gets to about 30 feet away before shouting "HELLO, THE HOUSE!" to get this Yadmilla's attention. Besides, asking for her by name seemed a bit forward.

Beltin never gets that close to the cottage, but really only gets 20' off the path before an extremely high, shrill voice challenges him. Just as the voice speaks out, Beltin sees the source(s), about a half-dozen squat (~3' tall, c. 40 lbs.) humanoids with blue skin and big heads hiding in the grasses. "Stop there, hoomans! You have hated no-mee wif you. Why you bring no-mee wif you? Say youse busy-ness!"

"Great," mutters Lini, restraining her wolverine with a hand signal. "Mites."

Beltin blinked. Between all the possible things he'd heard that mites might be, he still found this version as the odd one. Still, might as well be polite. "Hello. We are the expedition from Restov, sent here to explore the area. We were told that Yadmilla lives in these parts and we wanted to meet this protector who keeps the roadway safe." He pauses, briefly considering mention that only one member of this group was actually human, but there were more pressing matter. "And what 'no-mee' are you referring to?"

    "Scuses me! Nooooo-ehhhhhm, then,"

"I was under the impression that a woman named Yadmilla leaved near here. What brings you here, preventing me from meeting her?"

Beltin sighed. He does his best to dumb down his message. "We live not too far from here. I wanted to meet her so we could be friends."

"Ohhhhh..." comes a chorus of voices.

"Ya! We be friends! Friendy-ness good-ness! Friends!"

"Friends! Friends! Friends!" comes several voices, followed by a chattering in a strange language

Which, actually, Beltin understands. It is easy to assume that the language issue suffered earlier comes from a lack of intelligence, but really it turns out that it is a function of TSL (Taldane as a Second Language), and while they don't say anything truly profound, still they seem just as intelligent - at least verbally - as a normal commoner.

"Friends come-a house!" shouts Xuld, striking an overly-gregarious pose and as the others filter out of their poor hiding spots behind thistles and bushes. He is motioning to the cottage.

The "collective" of mites suddenly turns - almost as one - on their cowwectiw widdle heews - and suddenly has little meany faces. "NO NO-MEES!!!"

There is a second or two of settling, and they continue beckoning Beltin and Sajan to the house, trying to put on a friendly demeanor again.
