Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
So, just enough for that lab upgrade? ;)
Before they added the alternative option, I was somewhat annoyed - over the years I probably sent over a 1000 coins to HD players, leaving me with very little when the lab came (~160). In fact the last time I did that was just a day or two before the lab came...

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
So, where does one do this lab stuff? I'm still stuck in reading up on my Ambition, but it sounds like the kind of thing the good Professor would do.

So, anyone else getting their Heart's Desire? I'm kind of tempted to let Mr. Pages win, now. Those poor bat angels are just very sad.

I wouldn't worry about letting mr. Pages win. I've finished the ambition, and it was marvelous in all the right ways.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
I really didn't miss the grind for this game. Got about a dozen new storylets yesterday, which were nice, and today, I'm back to needing dozens of infernal contracts (at about 20-30 actions for 5 contracts... urgh), to even convince the first possible player to join the game.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
Are you sure you're talking about Infernal Contracts? Those are 5 per action in Watchmaker Hill's Unfinished business and for mid-late game players are better outright bought, since the moment you can get resources worth more than 1 echo with an action, you're better off doing that, selling the stuff and buying the Contracts.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
Didn't mean those, no. Got the wrong name.
Anyway, the grind is real. Now I need magnificient diamonds. Which means I probably need to go on expeditions in the forgotten quarter.
Urgh. But I got two eggs to hatch already. One into a fur coat and one into a lyrebird. That was nice.
And yeah, if I need more money any time soon, I'll have to start selling Searing Enigmas and I kind of want to keep my stack of those.Last edited by Eldan; 2020-05-14 at 04:48 AM.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
The endings of the different Ambitions are very very costly, mostly because they're supposed to be end-game stuff. the only people who already finished it were those that already had a very well built character which was rich. (including myself)

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
From what I remember, I wasted all my money before I quit on Correspondence and a few other endlessly grindy quests, so yeah, that checks out. Still had all my stats over 200, though, at least.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
The Ambitions are costly, but most seem to agree that each finale is actually cheaper (and gets you better/more rewards) than the previous. Nemesis is absolutely ridiculous, requiring 10K+ in knives, while apparently Heart's Desire's can be between 3,5k and 4k (depending on choices).
If you'd happen to have 7 criminal favors, you could use the "An Implausible Penance" card - Pugilism and politics into Beating the minister gives 1-2. And if you're feeling lucky, pick some low-quality diamonds in Empire Adornements (Bazaar Sidestreets) - a rare success will get you one.

Yeah. Did three Thieves' Caches today, no diamonds so far. Might just try picking a few dozen diamonds at adornments.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
I been getting back into this game ever since I started on Sunless Seas.
Looks like there's been quite a bit of expansion on content since I last played, which is nice. Now... I need to get my laboratory setup.

I'm working on my Lab right now, since I need a Parabolan Basecamp anyway for Heart's Desire.

So, establishing the Parabolan Base Camp costs 1000 memories of light. I think I'm done with this game again? That's just not worth my time.

That is the option in the lab as far as I can see. Here:

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
BaL did indeed have a much cheaper option. HD should have a non-lab option (seeing how my alt got the Coin for the lab in Parabola), but it also was 1001 Memories (although initially it was bugged and while requiring that many, it gave you another 1001 instead of taking them away :D )

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
Yeah, discovered Iad about 400 tales of terror left, which are side-converted pretty quickly, and about 500 mourning candles to sell for raw materials, but still takes ages.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
If that is any consolation, Parabola is quite exciting. Finishing you Ambition will however most likely need another hefty amount of resources (I needed 60 Copper Cipher Rings at one point, Nemesis has become infamous for needing an absurd amount of knives). I think I have completed all necessary steps to finish and I am down about 8-10k Echoes from upgrading the Lab, exploring Parabola and going through the last update of BaL.
Whitsun is more fun than I initially expected. Hunting down the various upgrades, maxing out Red Science and Shapeling Arts, cracking eggs for my bone collection, printing an Whitsun Special Edition ...
Still undecided on how to spend the Amber Pennies. Some of the items would definitely be convenient to have, on the other hand I am really tempted to hire the Numismatrix.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
Where are you finding all that? All Whitsun does for me so far is giving me eggs that I can put upgrades on in every location, then wait for them to hatch.
But yeah, turns out that making all the things you need is marginally less tedious if you can casually get a thousand echoes together by selling some spares from your inventory.Last edited by Eldan; 2020-05-18 at 04:27 AM.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
You can experiment on "raw" eggs in your Lab. On finishing you get 1 CP Red Science (Aged Egg) or Shapeling Arts (Scarlet Egg) and an Uncanny Incunabulum/Trembling Amber. From investigating Aged Eggs, you also get some Speculation about Whitsun. With a level of 10, you can print a special edition of your newspaper.
While waiting for an egg to hatch, you can still crack open unaugmented eggs und 'The Trials of Patience'. Aged Eggs give a a variety of bone items. You can also sell them at the Bone Market for 40 Nightsoil/Bessemer Steel. Probably not very cost effective, but I like to think I will have a quicker start once the railway and paleontology content goes live.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
You can get there from the Department of Menace Eradication after getting 'Route to the Bone Market' from the first experiments for the Dean in your Lab. A place to sell Osteology items and some other stuff. It has its own card deck with buyers whose availability depends on your BDR stats. For some you will probably need BDR-lowering items from Parabola.

Re: Fallen London 4 - Khan!!!!!!!
So, Parabola is indeed a lot of fun. Quite a bit of new content, all of it refreshingly non-grindy so far. I did grind the chess board a bit until I could win a game, though. Didn't seem to produce any immediately useful rewards, but was fun.
