Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
It can end the game quickly which is kind of expected at that cost. Not much more to say.
Some of the new double sided cards are interesting. The ones with lands need to have a big downside if their other side is decent or that'll be a no brainer to include in most decks running that colour. Non-basic fetchers and bouncelands could be interesting with them.
A more boring one here though.

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
I think I like these better than the new rare dual lands they're actually printing. There is some weirdness with your version in regard to fetching, though, since you only care about one of the subtypes while it's in your library. How do you decide which side should be on the front? Do you put both of the forests in the cycle on the back to make them unobtainable by Wood Elves? Just one? Which one?

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
I hadn't actually seen the new lands when I posted it and I'm kinda disappointed with them. I thought it had been a pretty solid design rule for a while that lands shouldn't be strictly better than a basic - extra mana types only came in untapped conditionally, if at all. Additional abilities either came in tapped or only have colorless mana on tap. The only potential downside is then being non-basic for blood moon as a fringe case. Or not being searchable, which doesn't really matter if you have any basics at all in your deck. And that just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Also, forest on the front for gruul and selesnya, on the back for golgari and simic. Not a massive deal but simic and sultai ramp need no help right now.Last edited by Tom the Mime; 2020-09-13 at 06:11 PM.

The wording seems a little sloppy, but conceptually it looks all right. The board-purging effect limits its viability some, but regeneration for 3 mana would be kind of busted without it, so I have no complaints.

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
This is an extremely weak card. You could lose the vehicle part of it and it'd still be very weak, being exclusively a blocker that can't even block most creatures. Having to tap a creature to let this do its one job is even worse. As is, this could probably lose the vehicle parts and the restriction on blocking, and it'd still be ok at best.

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
So, since tokens don't generally have a mana cost, wouldn't this just be 4 mana to search your library for whatever? Not that that's an unfair effect for the price, granted, it just seems a little over-elaborate.
I like this card. It's got a lot of potential for differing plays.

Peasant Railgun is more of a common than an uncommon, compare to spark harvest. I think it is a little on the weaker side but thats fine.
Dwarven Defenders, this is kind of interesting. It is basically a hydra that gains double strike after growing for a bit and loses defender. It can grow really efficiently but a 1/1 defender for 3 is very very weak. This card will cost you 7 mana to get a 5/5 first strike defender. Interesting.

Snapcaster Artificer! And I think this might be just as, if not more strong than the original, especially in Vintage with things like the Moxen. There are many artifacts that sacrifice themselves to do a thing, and this will just help you get more value out of them, or deal with an Ancient Grudge that you didn't expect.

The beginning phase will go: draw step, upkeep step, untap step.)
Yes, this will likely boil down to a fancy Time Walk. But screw it, Rules Lawyer exists, so judges are already used to crying in silver-bordered sets.

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
Alright lets evaluate this. First thing I noticed untap at the end means that unless the target knew this was coming they wont really have any mana to work with, card draw at the end means this is like just getting extra main phases. Since the combat step doesn't make any sense out of order that player can't deal damage- they can safely proc attack triggers though. It is also nifty that effects that normally trigger on upkeep usually last until your end step so they will double up on the next turn. This is a very weird card but I think it could create interesting decks that are able to use this weird turn to their advantage. Its obviously silver boarder but I wonder what it could be used for in black boarder.

It's weird to me that you don't do anything with the Travel counters other than... count. Considering its place in the game, this effect is practically identical to just being unblockable, is it not? I can kind of see the flavor of, "landwalk for lands you haven't walked yet," but still.

Re: MtG: YMTC challenge VI: Companion Did Nothing Wrong
Reminds me a lot of wildborn preserver bit more limited. Feels like having flash as well would be a good fit given its pretty common on spirits. Green feels weird even with the counters given they don't have as many spirits. Maybe W or U (or both to give it a harsher color requirement for not fitting the pie quite as well).

Convoke works well as a Kithkin mechanic, but in the spirit of Lorwyn it still probably makes more sense to spread damage out among other Kithkin rather than relying on a weird counter thing. Then again, I might be able to imagine the counters being their own mechanic, like with Cenn's Tactician.

4 mana 3/3 death touch is a pretty typical rate existing on 2 recent commons and 1 recent uncommon. I think the effect that you tacked on - a psudo aristocrat ability - is a common power level complexity and effect. So I think this should be a common. Other that that it is fine.

I think I see what the card wants to do: give Undying to itself the first time, then give it to something else after it dies and comes back. I'd almost rather it just do that and be a mono-green card with better base stats, because the color pie on it currently is a bit confusing to me. The three abilities map to the three colors okay, but I keep thinking it's white instead of blue, almost always using Undying makes it feel black, and I think the commander decks it would best fit in with don't have any red.

The subject matter is a little fraught, but you could say the same about some things in Theros and Kaladesh, and I still like it all better than Rick. The mechanics are certainly impressive! Manlands tent to be pretty powerful, this one is evasive, gains you life, and can trade with most things. For these reasons I think it might be a little over tuned. 3 isn't that much of a cost to animate especially since it can pay for 2 of that as long as you have cheap ways to target stuff in the yard like cling to dust or scooze.
