Ignoring for a sec that was the most well informed explanation of different loves for different styles of Mafia games and different experience levels I'll ever read about this type of thing.....AV, you honestly sound like you cherish these Mafia games almost more than anything else on the site. But that can't be true; we have the OOTS comic.

Tbh I got lured by the comic and stayed for the community (there's even a mini Mafia community inside the gitp community - hi Valmark, Snowblaze, etc).

Didn't think I'd be counted inside the Mafia community- at least not so soon. It feels like I haven't played much at all still.

I came here for the comic, signed up to discuss D&D, and ended up starting to do Mafia after doing it at GenCon a few years back. This will always be my main forum, because of the D&D stuff, and that's why I make a lotta noise about trying to bring the Mafia community back to this part of the forum. I prefer playing games to running games, but I'd run every game if nobody else felt up to the task, because even just watching stuff unfold is just so much fun.

While we're off-topic. I think the best advice/philosophy for playing vanillager I've ever heard is "your goal is to be NKed." If there're town power roles, it is pretty much always better for a vanillager to get NKed than one of them. Solving the game is fantastic, providing analysis that helps someone else do so is great, you should be trying to do one or the other. But if you bait the wolves into killing you, either because they think you're a power role or they are scared of what you might figure out if you live too long, then you've prevented an actual power role from getting killed. You've gotten the wolves to waste their best weapon.

I've seen it argued, quite convincingly in my opinion, that vanillager in a game with power roles isn't the boring role, it's the fun one. Because there is so little for you to lose; nothing is riding on you. So you're free to just be creative and aggressive and reckless and screw with the wolves' heads while maybe figuring out who they are, with a little luck.

I'll be honest, I did not expect to see quite that many greens discarded. 16 Town cards were discarded, 3 Mafia, 1 Alien, 1 Werewolf, and 2 Cultist (this is including Logic's auto discards). It is also interesting to note the number of duplicates discarded (For Town Roles there is 1 title that was discarded twice, 3 titles discarded thrice, and 1 title that was discarded five times)(None of the other sides had duplicate title discards within their sides). All this can probably tell us something more about the ratios (unless I missed that they were announced clear as day somewhere)...but I'm not up to trying to do the math right now . Also, tracking does not seem to be a very popular power.

For my D1 first vote pick I'll go with...Logan1996. First off, are you with us? Second, why did you discard the Town Seer card?! (Yes, I know gac3 and LoveWonderJoy did as well, but they have both made an appearance already).

Well I'm telling you now, don't let somebody else tell you how to play. I always tell kgato to play more, but ignoring me is working just fine for him.

I've been looking at the numbers, and given that two cultist roles have been discarded there's a reasonable chance there isn't actually a cult... (or, of course, I'm a cultist trying to deny the existence of my faction)

That'd definitely be true if we were using the ratios Unavenger discussed in the recruitment thread where there were only two cult cards in the first place, although since we're explicitly not usong that ratio who knows. Probably still pretty unlikely but shouldn't discount the possibility.

Well, the fact that that deck is a lot larger than the one we're using would imply that there aren't any more cultists.

That's actually a good point, that deck would be like twice as big as what we're working with.
