Re: Anonymouswizard's Random Banter #227 and Free Cup of Tea
True, but I guess strength is important? I mean, it's okay to say 'I find trans-women attractive' but not to say 'I refuse to date cis-men'.
I mean, it's certainly discrimination to refuse to date trans people. But is it worse than somebody who refuses to date people with dyed hair? I'm really not sure, to me they both sound a bit silly.

Re: Anonymouswizard's Random Banter #227 and Free Cup of Tea
As I recall there were actually two arguments.
On one occasion the argument was that a fully transitioned person is indistinguishable (incl when naked) from a cis-gendered person of the the gender they transitioned to, and therefore the only possible reason for not wanting them was transphobia (thinking of them as not actually a man/woman). That they obviously cannot perform the reproductive functions of the gender they identify as did come up, but I don't recall what answer was given.
The second, more extreme argument was, that the sexual rejection of even pre-transition trans persons was transphobic. So, for example, a straight man who did not desire male to female trans with male genitalia was transphobic. I think the argument was that it is transphobic to consider genitalia a defining feature of gender, and that claiming to be attracted to a sex rather than a gender identity was just a way of disguising ones transphobia.
In both cases the counter-argument (which I tend to agree with) was as you say in your post. People can have preferences in their sexual partners that do not imply phobia or prejudice toward those not preferred - with analogies drawn to preferring a certain hair colour, or taller /shorter etc.Last edited by Liquor Box; 2020-05-19 at 03:16 AM.

Re: Anonymouswizard's Random Banter #227 and Free Cup of Tea
Is it wrong that I find this icky? Like, not pre-surgery trans people, but the idea of somebody's genitals being a turn off? I mean, if I'm attracted to somebody I do like to know what they have (cue awkward attempt to work out of they're okay with me asking without asking if they're okay with me asking), but I'm not going to be turned off of I find that a potential boyfriend has inwards man parts.
Like, I kind of get it, but it still icks me out?
Although I'm also that person who'll day that trans people have the genitals if their gender even before surgery. Because I don't see why steeples have to be male and valleys have to be female. Sure, they're commonly owned by such people, but it's not really an exclusive relationship.

Re: Anonymouswizard's Random Banter #227 and Free Cup of Tea
Are you asking me?
No, I don't think it's wrong - I think you (or anyone else) can find whatever you want to be icky. But just because you find it icky doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. We are all allowed our preferences, and just like people are entitled to prefer a particular type of genitals, people (like you) are entitled to prefer people who don't find any set of genitals a turn off. I suspect the former preference is much more common, but that doesn't invalidate your preference.Last edited by Liquor Box; 2020-05-19 at 03:53 AM.
