Speaking of, my copy should arrive early next week. Looking forward to it, to tell the truth. It is rather serendipitous that I had been looking for a pyromancer story just as LaZodiac brought it to our attention.

Thanks! I'm very happy! Someone sent me a picture of them holding my book and the sheer reality of it, the physicality of it, made me start crying. It's actually, for true, real and existent and that's just an intense feeling for me.

Hell yeah! I have a feeling you'll be happy with it, then. The editor I had for the book mentioned a note that a lot of media tends to shy away from the protagonist having fire powers, likely because they're so destructive, and that's exciting. It means there's a fair amount of fertile ground here for me to plant some fun seeds into it.

Also, it'd be remiss of me not to link this. Obviously don't like, read the spoilers until you've got your copy, but The Fury is doing a book club sort of thing that's super cool, and starts with yours truly, so I encourage everyone have a cool look at it and maybe join in the fun : https://forums.giantitp.com/showthre...Initial-Sparks

To be fair, Itoh is by far the best character. I'd watch a series about Itoh owning a tea shop and solving minor problems in the community. (Six episodes at least, maybe even a full twelve.)

The American version had perfectly normal-length 24-episode seasons. The UK version had extra-long 12-episode series. And had Freema Agyeman as a junior Crown prosecutor, for added bonus. Wish that version had the staying power of the original, or the (dreadful, IMO) SVU.

Presumably it's so that she could take advantage of Covid Unemployment benefits, rather than just... not being paid, because the office itself was shut down.

Indeed. Especially since the employer is an aunt, IIRC. That might have been the best way to handle it for all parties.

...might. I don't want to speak with authority on something I barely even have a summary about, let alone all the details.

I gather it was more of a furlough-like thing, even if not technically a furlough. Fired for lack of work, to be rehired when work existed.

I was let go two months ago, they cancelled my position and let me go last week (and no hard feelings!) with the intent to rehire me the instant it was available. It became available this week.

My aunt works for the employer with me and has no say on hiring, and I'm not out as family to everyone there because the idea was to have me tested on my merits first and not cheating.

For some reason DataNinja's post didn't get quoted so I'll just answer it here; I've been using the CERB since I was laid off, as is part of its intent.

OK, so in fact very Canadian. Still a bit silly that they removed and restored the position so quickly, but I can imagine various scenarios in which that might happen. In any case, it seems a second round of congratulations are in order. Now you need not feel at all guilty for having splurged on LGBT+ curtains!

According to IMDB it did 8 seasons and 53 episodes, which is a *lot* for a UK series that isn't called Doctor Who!

Errr... didn't I read recently that Coronation Street (of Queen's "I want to Break Free" fame) crossed the 10,000 episode mark?

Note to self, whatever way I was able to watch L&O:UK lied to me.

On a related note, thanks! Now I just need to find the rest of those.

ETA: Giggling at "8 seasons and 53 episodes." Reminds me of that criminally underrated "Dierdre and Margaret" joke from The Good Place.

There has got to be a more efficient way to extract light, heat, and power from a star than just leaving it there where it can blind us and give us cancer if we get too much of it(but also bone problems if we don't get enough. UV rays are basically a poison that you need to ingest small amounts off for your body to work right. Proof that Mother Nature is an abusive bitch.)
