Regarding the separation of author from writing: A lot of it is sort of there in the book anyway? This says it pretty well, I think; here's a small excerpt:

You can enjoy Harry Pottwr, of course you can. There are fantastic parts. I love a small group of teenagers deciding to become anarchist rebels and train to fight against fascism in secret. I love the murder mystery plots, I love how the series tells kids that it’s a good thing to be brave, and a good thing to fight injustice, and a good thing to challenge the government. But I cannot separate it from its author because it is such a product of its author. All of the structures of the world, the way things work in the universe, are drenched in Rowling’s beliefs, her bigotries. Of course they are: she made them.

So, printer part has arrivfed and the motor cable is no longer sparking...

Filament still came out crap (bearing in mind this was a reel from a different place for the first reel that was a problem.) Tried with the sample of pour usual sutff - works. Tried with what I suspect is the not-quite-so-good sutff that was on the upstairs printer and it works okay.

Two duff types of filament, then.

Got Dad to phone our usual supplier (who hadn't gotten any of the stuff we normally have and - to my lack of surprise, they can't get it in. Apparently they have 2500 kg of stuff on order, but betwen Covid and the storms in Europe, it's looking like the end of August before they get any in. He's given us his best allternative that's roughly the same, but he said he's almost run out of THAT.




This is the great Flight Stand Disaster all over again, which ahppened a cople of years ago, where the ONE place that makes the ubiqiutous 15p plastic flight stands everyone uses had a catastrophic engine failure and was out for about a year or so and it was getting rather desperate - I was actually starting to run out, which was kinda of a problem for someone for whom making starships is the Earth-side day job.

(To give you some idea, I will buy from Ground Zero Games, about 50 stands in a go, at LEAST and at least one a year, that that's not including any that come with starships. I've probably USED that many just doing the Aotrs fleet upgrade already, and I only bought about 50 in February and this is a year or so after we're back to normal operations; 40 ships is the mean across all the fleets we have, to give a further idea (not counting fighters/smallcraft).)

The worst part is the way it slowly became more and more obvious (first we started seeing dogwhistles, and noticing she was liking/following prominent transphobes, then eventually she accidentally posted a piece of a transphobic article into a tweet).

Anyway hey today, for the first time in awhile, I had a bought of "oops breathing I thought that was stupid". Something intensely bad feeling, like bile rising, caused it to be VERY hard to breath. I was able to shake it off and spent the last ten minutes cough/spitting into the toilet so I'm okay, but GOD is it a bad way to start your morning.
