Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Wendelstein kept very still, trying to understand or at least identify who had just decided to crash their party. Hadn't Nilvalor sent out his familiar to check this passage?
Couldn't be helped now. Just in case he readied himself to cast silence on the figure with the staff should he see signs of magic from them.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
It's hard to make out much details in the darkness, but something is slightly off about their movements-they're not normal humanoids, of that you're sure.
Spoiler: OOCI kinda assumed the traps were between the "princess" and the non-barricaded entrance from above-so they wouldn't fall prey to them until the fight begins.I have a LOT of Homebrew!

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
The two moving forwards almost reach the "princess" before they realize it's a ruse. One of them shouts something to the staff-wielding one behind them, and the two forwards turn so they're back-to-back, arms readying for a fight.
Spoiler: OOCRoll initiative, please.

Katrina calls out. Eschew electricity based attacks! She directs.
"Lucius Annaeus Seneca" She gestures to the staff wielder, her voice inlay with mystic power.

Spoiler: OOC(1d20+2)[21]
Let's see...
Their eyes snap to Katrina, and they crow in victory, having located the princess. But, when she brandishes her own arcane implement, you can see worry flicker across their faces... But fade when the magic washes over the staff-wielding one and find itself impotent.
Spoiler: OOCIt is now Bastion's turn, followed by Dude 1 and then Staff Dude.Last edited by JNAProductions; 2020-08-08 at 09:39 PM.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Bastion steps near the actual princess to protect her. If in range, he lashes out towards available enemies with his glaive.
Spoiler: OOC
Sorry, I'm still kinda rusty with Bastion's abilities (Unwavering Mark and Warding Maneuver)
Trying to move so that whenever an enemy gets into 5ft range of the princess, also gets into 5ft range of Bastion.
If possible, during or after movement, attacking each of the melee dudes. If it hits, apply unwavering mark:
Attack - (1d20+8)[11] for Damage - (1d10+5)[15] (if crit: AdditionalDamage - (1d10)[6])
EAttack - (1d20+8)[10] for EDamage - (1d10+5)[15] (if crit: EAdditionalDamage - (1d10)[7])
Spoiler: Unwavering Mark
While it is within 5 feet of you, a creature marked by you has disadvantage on any attack roll that doesn't target you.
In addition, if a creature marked by you deals damage to anyone other than you, you can make a special melee weapon attack against the marked creature as a bonus action on your next turn. You have advantage on the attack roll, and if it hits, the attack's weapon deals extra damage to the target equal to half your fighter level.
I will also use my reaction if the princess is attacked: Warding - (1d8)[1]
Spoiler: Warding ManeuverIf you or a creature you can see within 5 feet of you is hit by an attack, you can roll 1d8 as a reaction if you're wielding a melee weapon or a shield. Roll the die, and add the number rolled to the target's AC against that attack. If the attack still hits, the target has resistance against the attack's damage.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Bastion's swings go wide, the nimble creatures dodging out of the way of his sweeping strikes.
The first of the two that went ahead goes for Bastion, swinging twice. Their arms distend grossly, forming a lethally sharp blade instead of a hand.
Spoiler: OOC(1d20+5)[11] to-hit
(1d8+5)[7] Slashing damage
(1d6)[1] acid damage
(1d6)[5] lightning damage
(1d20+5)[25] to-hit
(1d8+5)[6] Slashing damage
(1d6)[5] acid damage
(1d6)[4] lightning damage
Note that all damage happens on a hit-none on a miss.
The staff-wielding one gestures with the staff with one hand, forming a bolt of lightning behind Bastion. It arcs into him, before curling back, seeming almost sentient in its eagerness to strike again. With their free hand, they thrust it forward, firing a thin bolt of lightning towards Bastion directly.
Spoiler: OOC(1d20+8)[25] to-hit
(2d8+5)[14] Lightning damage
(1d20+8)[18]
(2d10)[18] Lightning damage
Again, all damage happens on-hit.
Two spells are being cast (yes, I'm following the rules on casting-main action spell is a cantrip) so if anyone wants to or is able to use Counterspell, feel free to! I'll edit this post with the result.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Kyra, with as much speed and strength as she can get on the floor here, rushes in to attack from behind the creature attacking Bastion, her spear thrusting.
Spoiler: OOCMoving to try and flank the one that attacked Bastion.
Attack (with advantage, if I can get the movement, if not, disregard the second roll): (1d20+6)[17], (1d20+6)[23]
Damage: (1d6+3)[5]
Second attack: (1d20+6)[12], (1d20+6)[10]
Damage: (1d6+3)[4]

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Spoiler: OOCFlanking is an optional rule. One that is terrible and not in use here.
I'll grant you advantage on attack number one, though, as you're attacking from hiding.
The spear's first thrust penetrates the slimy body of Bastion's assailant, causing some minor harm. The second strike is batted away by their slashing appendage.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Spoiler: OOCUp next, Nilvalor and then Wendelstein.
The remaining foe attacks their new assailant, screeching something in the unfamiliar language.
Spoiler: OOC(1d20+8)[21]
(1d8+5)[13] slashing damage

(1d6)[6] lightning damage
(1d20+8)[14]
(1d8+5)[7] slashing damage
(1d6)[3] acid damage
(1d6)[3] lightning damage
Total of 23 damage, I believe, on Kyra.
After their strikes, they move towards the room's rear-center, about 15' in front of the caster.
Spoiler: OOCDisengage as a bonus action.
They are positioned such that, to reach the mage, you'll provoke an AoO.Last edited by JNAProductions; 2020-08-10 at 12:02 PM.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
Nilvalor
Nilvalor fires off his shortbow, trying to take advantage of any weakness in the group of three before moving as quickly as he can around them towards the back entrance from where they came. As he's working around, he's trying to get into a position where he can dash past them unhindered towards where he last saw Ella fly.
Spoiler: OOC
Target: staff carrier
Shortbow attack: (1d20+8)[16]
w/ advantage (hidden): (1d20+8)[28]
Damage: (1d6+5)[11]
Crit damage from OOC: 6
Sneak attack from OOC: 17
Move 30 feet around them, keeping at least 10 feet away. Trying to get into position to dash past them.
Cunning action Dash past them into the tunnel from which they came to go find Ella. If I can't do that without an AoO, cunning action Hide this round with whatever cover I can find in the direction I'm moving.

Re: A Cultural Tour Gone Wrong [IC]
'This doesn't look good, we have to contain this quickly.' Wendelstein thought to himself, abandoning the idea to silence the spellcaster. Instead he presented the blazing shield of Gond and called out:
"By flame and fire thou be bound!"
Immediately a curtain of roiling flames descended around the three creatures, cutting them off from the rest of the room and providing some necessary light to the proceedings.
"Get into position, Gond knows if these creatures can be hurt by flame at all."
Taking Bastions example, he positioned himself in a way that allowed him to protect the princess' other flank.

Katrina is up next.
The flames roar up, roasting your foes. The two melee combatants are caught by surprise, taking the full impact, but the mage realizes the spell is coming and is able to dodge the flames-still hut, but not as badly.Last edited by JNAProductions; 2020-08-11 at 08:16 AM.
