Everyone decides to move along the true path to Mbala and they finally push into the dense jungle. The jungle path is worn down by foot travel and the occasional wagon that widens the path slightly, but not enough wagons come through to push the jungle pack any further than three or so feet. The jungle does widen at times, but for the most part, progress is rather time-consuming. The muddy earth makes it rather rough terrain to pass in certain low lying areas.

The group continues along with their eyes and ears peeled for danger or anything out of the ordinary.

Shellface is the first to notice a group of tracks that cuts across the path from one dense wall of the jungle to the other. This puts her on guard as he knows the Batiri goblins often circle around known traveling paths. If the goblin's paths should cross they will ambush the unfortunate group passing through their area of the jungle.

Once the group is alerted to the chance of goblins it suddenly begins to pour rain. You are very slightly protected by the canopy, but it does little to stop anyone in the party from starting to get wet.

    Spoiler: Shellface, Shoku, Lizzybeth
    Show

This downpour is normal, it rains suddenly all the time in Chult. The whole island acts much like a tropical rain forest.

    Spoiler

Shellface you may know about certain locations around you since you are acting as the group's guide. You can roll your history, survival, or nature skill (whichever is greater, but with nature being harder to ascertain ex. One such location would have a DC 10 for history/survival and 15 for nature.)

You would know about locations such as goblin camps, ruins, and possible locations of treasure. I will let you recall these treasure locations in due time, but you can always roll to try recall locations around you. This ability stops working anywhere in the southern half of Chult. That is a mystery to you.

    Spoiler: Everyone and The Rain
    Show

Currently, the rain is making it hard to distinguish sounds, but your sight is unaffected at the moment. You can make perception checks without disadvantage, but anyone sneaking does so at advantage.

Keem holds up a claw. Goblin ambushes in the rain time of day are too easy. Keep your wits. I will scout ahead. With that, the lizard dives headfirst into a puddle of mud, caking his face and body in a brown tinge. He did not smell, but the brown dirt would better conceal his white face scales and make his body easier to hide. With the rain washing it partially off, it gives the whole creature a faded look, as it vanishes in the jungle.

His naginata, a three foot broad blade that sat atop a four foot staff. He held it out in a defensive arc, his vision blurred slightly, as he diffused his point of focus scanning the foliage on either side of the path looking for movement that was out of place amidst the Chultan canopy, as his comrade dropped into the mud to conceal themself, and entered the jungle to scout for the suspected ambush.

As the rain starts to pour down, Lizzybeth pulls a dark blue floppy-brimmed hat out of an inner coat pocket and pulls it down onto her head. She keeps her dagger at the ready, and keeps a sharp eye out for danger.

Seeing Shoku shift into a defensive stance, she darts over to stand with her back facing his, a few feet apart, hoping that they can cover each other's blind spots. Instead of a wide defensive stance, she hunches down, ready to either strike or sprint depending on the situation. Considering that an ambush might be imminent, she draws a second dagger from her side, holding both in front of her.

"I would love to be resolute, but I hate waiting for something to come at us," she hisses. "How long do we wait for Keem to come back? This doesn't seem like the best place to make a stand... Scoots, can you see anywhere where we could stop ourselves from getting surrounded?"

Oz watches as the others dissappear into the downpour and starts the short trudge back to Shoku, strapping his shield to his arm on way.

He looked at the half-elf as he got close."Well this is a miserable way to go into a fight." he complained, before bringing his staff to his lips and whispering to it. Shellface makes his way ahead of the group following a clear path of broken sticks and flattened brush. Keem spots a goblin stack of three goblins ontop of each other, and two other goblins moving a third who isn't moving. The goblins are all talking in a wild raucous form of goblin, and all of them seem to consider their non-moving comrade as if he were a hindrance; eventually just leaving the body in the dense brush.

The two goblins clamber up the single stack to increase the size. The stack sways with the new additions and then corrects itself. the goblin at the top of the group stands on his comrade's masked head to look around. The goblin huffs and points towards where Shellface assumes the trail picks up further along. Waiting for them to leave the area, Keem is certain they seem to be circling back towards the common trail, but now several hundred feet down the trail from the group.

Lizzybeth, Shoku, Oswald, and Scoots take their places with half the group hiding just off the trail. The rest stand their ground in a facade to hide their true strength.

The rain continues to soak everyone in the group as they prepare for what comes next.

Keem would almost feel pity for the goblins, if he weren't such a cold-blooded creature. He grasps a clawful of mud he was hiding in, and forms a spinning orc of ice with it. Moving slowly through the downpour, keeping her head on a swivel as she does so, Lizzy crawls into the undergrowth next to Scoots. Sheathing her two daggers, she pulls an elaborate crossbow out from under her coat. Made of a dark wood embellished with gold leif, the handle is a serpentine body that splits into three dragon heads, two that anchor the bow string and one in the center that supports the bolt before firing.

"Let's point different ways down the path, that way we'll get the clearest shot at them," she murmurs to Scoots. So saying, she points her crossbow to aim in one of the directions she has suggested. Seeing that the shine of her bow may give them away, she quickly taps each of the dragon heads. Scoots may hear her mutter, "Saeth then; salchig," and the bow darkens as if it's been dipped in mud. She steadies her aim, and waits for something to leap into her sights.

Shellface's evocated ice knife shoots with deadly speed towards the unaware goblin stack. The ice-cold knife flies towards the middle goblin's position and slips inside between the goblin's shoulder blades like a hot knife through butter. The goblins all cry out as a spread of ice hot shrapnel rips out of the one in the middle and into their legs, thighs, shoulders, and necks, respectively.

The stack loses its top two goblins who drop the forest floor. The small stack's top goblin turns and looks directly at Shellface. It goes to scream on its turn.

Shellface's enchanted stone buries into the head of a goblin trying to clamber onto his friend. The remaning three goblins give chase as another two, in a stack, bursts out of a dense jungle bush. The new goblin atop the stack is carrying a blowgun. Holding onto the mask of his ally he puts the gun in between his guady mask and blows through the gun trying to hit the fleeing lizardfolk.

All the goblins start gaining ground to overtake Keem as he focuses for moment to sling the stone. The goblins gain to the point of seventy feet as Keem rushes to his comrades.

Shoku noted the battle stack of the jungle goblins, he broadedned his stance to receive the charge, warned of their tactics by Elizabeth-ko. He watched as the top-most goblin lifted a reed like blowgun and puffed a dart with deadly accuracy. Shoku, deftly shifted, allowing the, likely, poisoned dart to drift harmlessly into the foliage behind them.

The group easily picks the goblins apart. Lizzy's crossbow bolt hits the slightly battered goblin as the one under it is consumed in holy flame. The remaining battle stack of goblins suddenly appear less keen on the fight. The bottom goblin didn't even see where the deadly projectile came from, but it ended between his eyes. The top goblin drops to his feet.

As Keem-Shah takes a swing at the last goblin, Lizzybeth yells, "Take the last one hostage, he can be a guide!"

Let me know if this yell is allowed, idk if talking is a free action that one can use off turn... if not I will delete this post and we can ~all pretend it never happened~

Scoots drops his bow and rushes forward, drawing his shortsword. He whips towards the goblin's head, but turns the blade as he does, aiming to knock senseless rather than kill

Dropping her crossbow, Lizzy darts forward, pulling a net out from under her coat as she runs. Twisting sideways, she lets it unravel a bit before throwing it over the last remaining goblin with a yell.

    Net attack: (1d20+3)[13]

The range on the net is 5 feet, if I can’t get that close I’ll roll with disadvantage in the OOC thread. (Disadvantage range is 15 feet so if I can’t get that close then the net just lands in the mud.)

Oz rushes forward as Lizzy throws the net, helping to pin the other side of it down and ensure the goblin can't escape.

Tashiro Shoku, Half Elf Kozakuran Paladin
    AC: 16 | HP: 12
    Passive Perception: 13 | Passive Insight: 13
    Conditions: None.

As his companions dealt with the surviving korobokuru, Shoku moved towards the their fallen enemies. Grimly, he knealt to the side of the goblin's corpse, drawing forth his short bladed sword, and with a single, focus swing, severed the head from the body. Then, standing, careful to keep the creatures foul blood from his armor and clothing, he produced an iron spike, which he used to affix the creature's head to the trunk of a tree, at eye height for any of their tribe mates.

Ignoring the looks of his companions, he repeated this task for each of the felled creatures. As he worked through his grisly task, he intoned a saying in his native Kozakuran, "Sentō de tekiwotaosu dakede wa fujūbundesu. Anata no shōri wa attōtekide, teki no tatakau ishi wa eien ni uchikudaka remasu."

Once complete he moved to his companions, "We should kill the creature quickly, it's loyalty is to it's tribe, not to it's captors. It will surely lead us into ambush, or hazards of the jungle that we are unaware of. Best kill it cleanly, and rely upon Keem Shah's familiarity with the penninsula to guide us."

The group restrains the goblin, and at the threat of death; it stops thrashing. The goblin watches Shoku and turns back to the group addressing it, "Bree-yark! Bree-yark!" The goblin changes from its native tongue to address the group in broken common, "Toku no die...Toku help. Toku no trick...Toku swears."

Shoku continues to make a grisly scene and this has a clear impact on the goblin who looks out through the ropes totally still except the rapid rise and fall of its chest. The goblin thrashes in an attempt to get away from Shoku and screams, "Nooooo, Toku will help! You must let Toku Help! The goblin calms down for a moment to utter a warning, "Mbala is bad, Mbala is Death. Batiri stay away."

The goblin seems compliant after giving this warning and watches the group in fear behind its now lopsided mask.
