EverQuest RPG?

So I scoured the everquest rpg first book in Indigo, and thought it was fairly cool. I'd like some experience opinions from anyone who's bought the book and played with it, though.
I know White Wolf put out a second edition that looks like generic classes, which could still be good. Any differences?

Anyway, the setting seems to have a lot of... old school goodness to it. Specifically like Palladium rpg, the first adventures for that game, and "the great old ones" adventure book. The ogre and the Troll as PC races kinda does that. The 2nd edition feel is from how some racs are so powerful they get a 20% penalty to xp (not level adjustment! it's wild!).

I've never played the video gme, don't plan on it. I'm thinking about the novels and the rpg itself.
