Re: Buu runs Scales
Spoiler: History CheckYou seem to remember bits of the lore behind the hand, what it stood for, how it was worn, and what general purpose it served. You are welcome to ask Morrik if any from your memory lines up with his story.
"Not so tall-ling thinks you can hold stomachs like Morrik? Me thinks even a babe gob could drink you under!"

Re: Buu runs Scales
"Sounds like a yes to me," Ruvora says, grinning.
Turn to the guards: "Get us two stools and a table in here. Doesn't need to be a big one, a large barrel would also do."
Turn to the group: "We're going to the ale temple. I'll carry the kegs, you carry the tankards!"
Turn to the exit: "Onwards!" Ruvora points and promptly marches out of the prison and towards then inn to retrieve two kegs of ale. It's for a good cause and the safety of the town, and the Lords will probably be happy to pay for them.

Bemused but accustomed to accepting things she doesn't understand, Dearie quickly changes to fit the situation. "To the alehouse!"

Aeren Tatallaner
"I will keep our guest entertained will you bring in the libations." Turning to the goblin, "I heard you mention the fearsome hand. Is it true that..." Aeren uses what he remembers to paint an impressive picture to try and ingratiate himself with the goblin.

Re: Buu runs Scales
And so the party, sans Aeren and Zar, make their way back to the tavern in hopes of bringing back the set up of a drink off for the ages!
Aeren, you ask Morrik of his recounting of the origin of the Hand, seeing if it matches your memories. "The hand strong. It come from long lost line of Gobs, who led great war paths!" This much was true. "It handed down to old Gobs from goddess Maglubiyet!" This, however, was not.
Spoiler: Religion DC 13:Mablubiyet is the patron deity for most all goblinoids. Even a rare orc or two is known to pay homage after a well fought victory over goblins, as a sign of respect amongst warriors.
Spoiler: Perception 12:On further inspection, Morrik appears to be wearing the battle standard on his shirt, yes, but it is upside down.Last edited by Buufreak; 2020-09-01 at 12:55 PM.

Re: Buu runs Scales
Ruvora promptly announces her mission to the good innkeeper (or the lovely barmaid from before). "Hello there! I need two kegs of ale and some tankards! I need to drink a gobbo under the table, for the good of this burg. Doesn't need to be the good stuff, using that for a contest would be a crying shame." The dwarf practically radiates purpose.

Re: Buu runs Scales
The young maid, still cleaning, seems a bit surprised to see you so quickly, and with such a request! "Uhm. Right. Tankards are just behind the bar. We keep the kegs downstairs. I assume you meant full keggars, right?"

Re: Buu runs Scales
"I sure do! You just tell me how much you want for each, and I'll take care of getting the council to cough up the jink." And without further ado, Ruvora goes downstairs with the maid to fetch some kegs for great justice.

Aeren Tatallaner
"Ah, great Maglubiyet, may the Mighty One's eyes ever burn. The Hand must be strong to be one of Maglubiyet's favored. Surely the High Chieftan's battleaxe will grant the Hand victory, but why would a tribe of power and right bother with such weak humans?"

Re: Buu runs Scales
At the Gaol
Morrik seems mildly confused by this line of questioning. "But Sinruth doesn't swing axe. He prefers long chain of spikes and barbs. And Tribe does as told by leader!"
At the Antler and Thistle Tavern
The basement is your fair standard of what could be expected. Large wooden casks line one of the walls, likely filled with the various ales and meads. In front of those are many sizes of kegs, generally strewn about haphazardly, some full, some not. "Say you only need two then? Must not be much a drinker, this gob."
Spoiler: Perception 12You notice that along another wall seems to be a bit of a memorial. There is an old, well time worn etching of a group of various races, a family banner and battle standard depicting a hammer and axe above a downward facing gauntlet, and wall mounted weapons: a large, two handed axe that seems well used and under serviced, and of all things, a blunderbuss.Last edited by Buufreak; 2020-09-07 at 06:05 PM.

Re: Buu runs Scales
Ruvora raises a finger. "Dwarven keg, not the adorable human keg for children's birthday parties," she clarifies, picking out two barrels of cheaper ale, the kind that is tolerable in taste and mainly gets humans hammered quicker. "I'll find out soon enough if the gobbo can hold his bub. What do I owe for these? And if I could get a name to remember the wonderful barmaid in front of me by, that would be most lovely." Chin motioning towards the barrels held akimbo during the question, her face doing its usual shining during the latter.

Re: Buu runs Scales
"No, Ru thinks we can probably loosen the captive's tongue by getting him drunk. It's worth trying -- the goblin approved of the plan, though maybe he was just trying to get wasted, who knows. Anyway," she calls up to the second floor, "you wanna watch a dwarf show a goblin what's what?"

Re: Buu runs Scales
With the kegs secured, name to a lovely face learned, and the price of them known (promised to pay as soon as possible if it's a lot), Ruvora fearlessly leads the way back to the cell, slamming the two kegs down. And kicking the guards' rears into gear if they have not gotten any stools and a table (or something table-adjacent) ready.
Ruvora plops down on her seat. "Here we go! We both down a full tankard. Once both are done, we both empty the next one. Whoever keels over first, loses." And with that, the contest begins!

Finding himself straying down a mistaken path, lured by the old teachings of an errant wiki, Aeren feels great relief when the others return with drink. He casually steps to the side and leans against the wall to watch how it goes.No longer active in forums.

Re: Buu runs Scales
Ruvora and Morrik go to it like champions, each a master of the ale-battle ... but in the end, only one of them is a dwarf, and it's not Morrik. Dearie steps in when the goblin drifts off his stool, grimacing as she hoists him up by his armpits. "Okay, you. A deal's a deal. Time to lead us back to your home. You get two consolation prizes, Morrik. You got free drinks, and you get to get the hell out of this jail. C'mon, on your feet now, let's move."

Re: Buu runs Scales
Morrik, quite stumbly at this point, tries his better to mutter a smart ass response. It fails miserably. He stumbles and fumbles a bit, makes his way to the corner of the room, and vomits violently. He's certainly had enough.
"Not so... URP... tall one has a way with drinking. Morrik will... will uphold agrees. Only... only problem is Morrik not see up from not up. Can tallers follow when Morrik see well?"

Re: Buu runs Scales
"Good ol' dwarven diplomacy. Never fails," Ruvora underlines, emptying the last bit of her tankard. "You get your lines straight, then you'll show us the way to your kip," she adds to Morrik as she rises, standing mostly solid. Mostly. She turns to Aeren, handing him a note. "My pretty, pretty boy, be your charming self and get compensation for the kegs from the lords."
The sum on the note just so happens to be a bit higher than the price given by the lovely barmaid for the kegs. A most unfortunate little error that, alas, most likely will not be caught.

With a good-natured bow, Aeren accepts the note. "Ever at your service." As he leaves the cell, he ruminates on the interrogation. "Hmmm. Decades of historical and oratorical study bested by decades of fermentation. Always new lessons." Smelling the rich aroma from the goblin's gastric contribution to the cell's decor, he corrects, "Much less than decades." He holds his breath as he strides for the Lord of the Treasury and fresher air.No longer active in forums.

Re: Buu runs Scales
The following morning comes, and as promised, Morrik is up, recovered, and ready to go. Albeit, shackled to Hells and back with a guard escort, but he stands ready at the North gate, just outside the bridge and market plaza of the city.

Ready for the journey, Ruvora arrives in good spirits, positively beaming.
"Hello there!" she greets well-audibly. "Oh, take those things off," is added towards the guard, pointing to the many, many chains and shackles.

Re: Buu runs Scales
Dearie arrives in fine health but still looking somewhat tense, with Zar not far behind. "Hi, Ruvora. You know, I'm surprised to find myself doing this, walking toward a group likely to enjoy killing me, instead of running away. But you don't seem even a little flustered. Do you know something I don't?"

"Nah. Figure I'll just go there and tumble to the dark of it. Besides, I've never marched into a gobbo stronghold before!" Ruvora answers with a big grin, the last bit delivered as if it were a very obvious reason for being in a great mood.

The bard, whistling a jaunty march, meets the rest of the party at the gate. Spreading his morning cheer with the guard, and Morrik as well, he steadies his pack, sword, and wand, excited about whatever may come. A new journey, a new adventure, a new tale.No longer active in forums.

Re: Buu runs Scales
Morrik kinda ***** his head to the side as he takes the flask. "Have you seen the size of me hands and nose?" But he gives it his best try anyway.
The road is long and potentially perpetually perilous. But with Morrik as a handy guide, showing where the tricks of the road are, pointing out all the less than evident signs of predatory creatures, and ultimately being a fair bit of friendly conversation, you make the long track towards Castle Rivenroar.
(Feel free to throw appropriate skill checks at that, or anything else you feel like doing).
