Re: Questions About Discussing Certain Books, Movies And TV Shows
I am trying to figure out under what conditions it wouldn't be. The first brush is that works whose primary purpose is religious or political and have never really moved beyond that (so The Bible or Disney's WWII propaganda) are really hard to discuss without crossing into the realm of forbidden subjects, so please don't try. Things that started out political, but whose politics have been lost in popular culture might be discussable (like, say, "A Modest Proposal" or Les Miserable), but you should still steer clear of the political and religious elements. History discussions are open, but stay away from politics and religion; the mods like to say that the line is real-world vs fictional, not present vs past.
If there is a particular work you aren't sure about, ask the mod over the forum you want to post it in. They will probably get back to you in a few days. The general advice they give, for the record, is "when in doubt, don't."

Re: Questions About Discussing Certain Books, Movies And TV Shows
Sheriff: Historical fiction, especially with any political or religious aspects, is particularly problematic. It's going to be impossible to engage in such a discussion without at least some real world references.
When in doubt, don't post it.
