Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
Oh look, loot.
I'll take the bag, and see what's inside.
Then I'll head back and touch that obelisk, as I think it might be the source of that uneasy feeling. I didn't want to prod at it before, but the game's clearly trying to warn me about something...

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
As you pick up the bag, it dissolves into nothing, leaving a small trinket in your hand. You can't quite make out what it is in the tunnel, but it is shaped somewhat like a teardrop.
You suddenly realize just how dark the tunnel is and that you've been able to see fairly, even without a light source, and you realize that your chosen race has Darkvision. Upon making this realization, the tunnel brightens considerably as you mentally acknowledge the ability.
You return to the glade and touch the obelisk, immediately receiving a popup.

Ooh. Yeah, I probably don't want to respawn in some town or something and get myself killed over and over again.
Yes.
Now, about this trinket. Shame the bag dissolved, I could have used something to store this in. I only have the two hands.
I'll look over the trinket in the light.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
You feel a pressure in your chest as your soul is bound to the obelisk, and a sense of finality overwhelms you briefly.
You note that the obelisk now has a small, red gem on the face with a faint glow. Standing in the glade now gives you a sense of familiarity, like coming home after a long trip.
Though in the shape of a teardrop, the trinket is painted to resemble a flame.
You lack the ability to analyze or identify items with a simple examination, so you learn nothing more about it except that it can be equipped to the Face item slot.Quod tibi vis fieri, facias.Spoiler: Links to my content threadsAldhaven - May 27, 2010 and ongoing.

Ookay. I'm not going to find anyone who can identify this for me in the near future, so... Let's equip it and see what happens. No whammies...
I'll "equip" the item, holding it up to my forehead, hoping it is "smart" enough to get what I'm trying to do.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
The trinket snaps into place on your forehead, a minor burning sensation accompanies it, but the pain fades to a comfortable warmth within a few seconds. You sense that it is having an effect, but the exact effect isn't immediately obvious.

Well then. Onwards, I guess.
I'll head down that path again, until I reach something new of note.
EDIT: I'll also check my character sheet, to see if the effect of that trinket, or the name of it, has appeared there.Last edited by Evoker; 2020-07-11 at 05:10 PM.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
When you check your character sheet, you discover that some additional information has become available to you.
As you travel through the tunnel this time, it is much brighter than before, owing to your darkvision. You soon reach the far end, emerging into a lush valley.
The valley extends to your left and right, widening to your right. A small stream bubbles happily down the valley, heading towards a thick forest growing at the end of it.
You do not immediately recognize the area based on your prior experience from playing the game.Quod tibi vis fieri, facias.Spoiler: Links to my content threadsAldhaven - May 27, 2010 and ongoing.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
Huh. Well, this must be a new zone of some sort, or I just haven't been here for a really long time. That could describe most of the starting area though, so... flip a coin and pick. If I had a coin.
Let's see. Character sheet. Unclear curse. Soul pact... wow that's nasty. Really glad I bound that hearthstone, I don't want to know what's gonna happen if that ever activates. Eldritch blast seemingly deals a bit more damage... Vile damage? Yikes. Can't tell if that hellfire's better or worse than force damage would be. Guess I don't have to worry about monsters with fast-heal as much?
Anyway. Let's kill some stuff, I need some XP and gear. To the forest.
I'll walk in the direction of the forest, looking around as I go in case there's anything I wasn't able to spot initially.

You make your way to the forest, encountering nothing of note along the way.
Once there, however, you notice what appears to be a rabbit chewing at some clover on the edge of the forest.Quod tibi vis fieri, facias.Spoiler: Links to my content threadsAldhaven - May 27, 2010 and ongoing.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
Ok. One of two possibilities: this rabbit is a non-threat, and I'll get like 1 XP from it and crafting materials I can't use. Or two, the game designers are a fan of Monty Python, and this rabbit is uncommonly dangerous. In either case, I don't think it's a good idea to kill it, because it's either a waste of time or a fight I probably shouldn't get into. Let's try to find something more consistent in danger level.
I'll continue walking into the forest.

I follow the stream, on the assumption that it's probably leading to somewhere important, because why would there be a stream here if it didn't lead to something interesting? Someone spent time modeling and designing this stream, so there's probably a purpose to it.

The stream turns to the left as you enter the forest and soon peters out into a bog. The ground in this direction is swampy wetlands.

A large alligator bursts from the water, lunging for the space you just vacated, narrowly missing you as you flee.
You manage to strike it with your eldritch blast, causing its flesh to crack and blacken as it is burned by hellfire.
It turns towards you and seems ready to lunge at you again.Quod tibi vis fieri, facias.Spoiler: Links to my content threadsAldhaven - May 27, 2010 and ongoing.

(Did it make the will save for the Frightening Blast? It's my only blast effect, and it's strictly good, so I assumed it would be applied, but if you want me to explicitly state I'm using it in the future, that's fine.)
Come on, then.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
Spoiler: OOCPlease state that you're using Frightful Blast in the future. I won't assume you're using an optional ability unless you state that you are using it. It also makes sense IC for you to have forgotten to toggle the ability on, as you did just roll a new character with a new class and all new abilities...
The DC is 12, if I remember correctly.
Will Save - (1d20+2)[5]
Rather than lunge at you again, the alligator gives up pursuit and slinks back down into the water. It disappears into the muck, but you're convinced that it's still there... watching you.Last edited by Rizban; 2020-07-11 at 09:01 PM.

Argh. Get back here, I haven't gotten any XP yet so I know I haven't defeated you.
I'll launch another eldritch blast into the water, out of frustration more than anything else.
Fine. I'll just find someplace where the enemies won't run away into concealing muddy water.
I'll start walking away, but if I hear anything, or after about 20 seconds, I'll spin around in hopes of catching the Alligator.

As you travel in that direction, you begin to notice large spider webs in the trees. You almost walk into a web but manage to stop before stumbling face first into it.

Re: Portal to D&D IC - Evoker
The aggressive spider leaps from the web, landing on your chest, and scurries up to try to bite you in the face, its tiny hairs prickling your skin through the thin material of your gown.

Your flailing manages to prevent it from biting you, and its poor attack leaves it unbalanced to the point that you could easily brush it off with a swift action.Last edited by Rizban; 2020-07-11 at 10:38 PM.

That's not good. I have to thin their numbers somehow, but I don't have anything.
I'll double-move, traveling 60 feet and weaving through the trees. I assume there's no straight path long enough for me to Run, for 120 feet of movement?
