Ssrask opened the character advancement interface and selected Fighter to advance. He made sure to mentally state he desired the Dungeon Crasher ACF before asking, "Are there any other acf's available at this level for this class?"

Ssrask paused. He thought he knew that Dungeon Crasher was an easy pick, but the Draconic Prowess peaked his interest.

"Siri can you give me information on Draconic Prowess?"

He was also a bit surprised that there had been no ability increase for this level. There had been one for every other selection. Perhaps once one went beyond secondary, they weren't provided every single level... He'd have to plan better to meet requirements for feats and such.

    Hey! Listen!
You seem to be trying to learn more about the Draconic Prowess alternative class feature.
Let me help you with that!
Draconic Prowess allows you to choose a Draconic Feat in place of a Fighter bonus feat at any even numbered class level. It also replaces some of the abilities gained at odd-numbered Fighter levels with dragon-related benefits.

    Hey! Listen!
Draconic Prowess forces the choice of a unique Combat Focus, which replaces the options for abilities gained at levels three, five, nine, and fifteen.
In addition, the Armor Mastery ability gained at levels seven, thirteen, and nineteen is modified by Draconic Prowess.
Draconic Prowess may be selected as a 2nd- or 3rd-level Fighter.

Ssrask left the grove alone as the shadows began to grow long. Despite having partied for the better part of his time in this world, the fact that he could continue without reservation in his own abilities while those he had teamed up with had to stop to regain strength made him feel... Pride?

There wasn't much of that feeling in his life before this. He was just a regular non-descript guy trying to make a life in the big city. Just one of the masses. I stand out here. I like it!

He followed his own trail back to the last tree, projecting the magical cold energy that coursed through his veins outward once again. As prepared as he could be, the dragonkin made a quick survey of the distance to the next tree and set out in a circular pattern to find the third.

You arrive at the dead tree and follow the path that you are more or less certain is the right one to get where you need to go, and you soon encounter another group of spiders.

You stumble upon them, seemingly catching them by surprise.

There's one Huge spider accompanied by two Medium spiders and a host of Tiny spiders that you don't quite have time to count.

You get a surprise round, and you also win Initiative.

I wonder if the game is responding to us getting stronger. I donÂ’t think a huge spider would be in a starting zone quest... a good limit test at least.

Using the surprise to his advantage, he moved into melee with the huge spider, relying on his aura to kill off the smaller threats.

On his actual turn, he tapped into the primal dragon lineage to bolster his toughness before a full attack routine.

Surprise Round: Move to melee with huge spider.

Round 1: Swift - 5 temp hp from white dragon lineage; 2 rd. Breathe recovery - (1d4)[1]

As you contemplate the game responding to your increasing strength, it occurs to you that it might also be responding to the level of progress on the quest. You recall that quest chains like this that constantly added new objectives always got harder as you completed individual steps and got closer to completion. You just hope that you don't reach a link in the chain that's too strong for your level...

You move in and attack the huge spider. Your first claw skitters across the surface of its chitin, doing little more than scuffing the surface. Thankfully, the rest of your attacks pierce its tough hide for 25 total damage. The spider screams in pain before it starts to freeze and tries to retaliate.

    Cold Aura - (1d6)[2]

    Spoiler: DM

Just so I don't forget it in the future, please just roll your energy aura damage at the end of your post, and I'll apply the damage to any creature in range at the start of their turns.

The huge spider bites you, piercing through your defenses!
    (1d20+9)[22] - (2d6+6)[10]+poison (fort dc 16 negates) (1d8)[7] Str damage.

One of the medium spiders is within range of your aura, frost forming on its carapace as it moves to attack.
    (1d20+4)[12] - (1d6)[3]+poison (fort dc 12 negates) (1d4)[1] Str damage.
The cold weakens it enough to prevent it from harming you!

The second medium spider is outside of your aura. It turns in place to face its abdomen towards you as it sprays webbing, attempting to entangle you. Touch Attack - (1d20+4)[21]

You become entangled! (-2 attack rolls, -4 Dex, move 1/2 speed, can't charge/run)

Three tiny spiders are within your aura, causing them to slowly freeze and die as they attempt to move, breaking off legs and cracking chitin.

Another two charge at you, provoking AoOs as they leap into your space to attack you.

You manage to resist the poisonous bite of the huge spider, cut the first tiny spider out of the air, and then resist the venom of the second.

In your desperation, you attack the huge spider with all that you have, tearing away chunks of carapace and splashing sticky blue ichor across the battlefield. It shudders and struggles to remain standing, but it has not fallen yet!

It tries to raise itself up to attack from above, lending additional power to its bite, but the biting cold saps the last of its endurance, causing it to collapse under its own weight.

The first medium spider bites at you again while the second pulls tight on the web entangling you, preventing your escape.

Its bite punctures your side near your kidney, but it somehow fails to do much damage (not confirmed).

The tiny spider crawling on your freezes and falls to the ground, where it shatters.

The five remaining tiny spiders all attack you at once! They provoke attacks as they enter your space.
    (1d20+5)[13] - [1]+poison - (1d2)[1] Str damage (Fort DC 10 negates)
    (1d20+5)[9] - [1]+poison - (1d2)[1] Str damage (Fort DC 10 negates)

    (1d20+5)[12] - [1]+poison - (1d2)[1] Str damage (Fort DC 10 negates)

Ssrask took stock of the situation. I panicked. It was clear that his body and build were good enough to hold up against such threats, or maybe it was his luck that held up. He pondered the thought as he cleaned the webbing from his body and searched the dead bodies for possible loot. If the poison had taken hold, I'd have been completely ineffective and they would have gotten me. I should reconsider my approach after we get through this part of the quest.

As it were, he still had a good amount of health left and was in top condition. Pushing to the trees seemed vital enough to risk further encounters, so after cleaning himself up and searching the corpses, he opened the advancement tab to check his options.

You don't find anything of value on the spiders. After all, they're just spiders...
Now, if you had some proper skills, you might be able to harvest some of their chitin or venom sacs or something to use as crafting materials.

    Experience Notice
You have earned enough experience to level up.
    Begin Character Advancement?
    Yes
    No

The system doesn't give you the costs of leveling up any of your class slots, but you're pretty sure that you have enough to level up any of the four that your choose.

You also note, with some shock, that your actual classes have changed! It seems that the flux caused by using the tainted core to rebuild has had unexpected side effects! Your Wild Shift Ranger level has transformed into a level of Knight! Your alignment has also shifted from Chaotic to Neutral!
