Yaay, looks lke a good probability of the Replicator's stepper motor having gone, which means it's then completely fragged and its time for a new printer which will take who knows how long to get here! Just what I needed, right?

Re: Sermil and the Banter of Randomness: Random Banter #228
NOOOOOOO!
Even though my stepper motors are fine, I have been looking at new ones, for almost no reason whatsoever other than upgrade.
3D printers are... Interesting. Like, from what I could tell completely dismantling one of mine, the hardware technology is actually remarkably simple, and we could have built them in the 60s, if not earlier. The computing seems like where the actual challenge in getting them to market.
That being said, the hardware can be extremely temperamental, and sometimes it seems like the best way to learn is to fail constantly. And even then, sometimes the stepper motor will just go out.
I now await someone to tell me the motor drives need crazy fine tolerances we didn't have in the 60s or something.Cuthalion's art is the prettiest art of all the art. Like my avatar.

Re: Sermil and the Banter of Randomness: Random Banter #228
I know. Thing is, the Rep 2 had been running FINE - for literally YEARS - until this year. Sure, old age was going to catch up with it eventually...
...estimated build time 2776 hours, I just looked it up...
... But it HAD to be this year didn't it?
Even better? Seems VERY likely that the replacement we're looking at will be slightly too large to fit on the stand we have:
Spoiler
which is itself a type of special magic roc's teeth moon-on-a-stick hahahahaha did you actually want furnature that did a ueful job no chance anymore mate screw you Bleakbane in particular thing, so it's not like we can get another one (since Dad and I ALREADY looked for something simialr for him to have upstairs to put the regular printer on since I put Nanny's one down here while we had problems with it that were probably all stemming from that crappy surge suppressor.
We have had generally little trouble over the... *checks photos of models* coming up to seven years we've had it; a few bit here and there, but in spurts and most of the time, it's run with no problems. (And sometimes it's ran for six days as week for, like 14-15 hours per day.)

Re: Sermil and the Banter of Randomness: Random Banter #228
I'm mostly oversimplifying for humor. From my own experience and what I've seen online, problems are either incredibly minor (eg extruder too hot for filament, no air blowing on filament, wrong settings in splicer, etc.) or incredibly major. Nothing in between. And amazingly long times between major problems, because of the aforementioned shockingly simple mechanics.

Re: Sermil and the Banter of Randomness: Random Banter #228
Yep, so Dad is pretty convinced it's likely the stepper motor, and I'm pretty convinced a Prusa i3 won't fit on the current stand.
Of course.
So I kind of just gave up totally and me and Mum watched the first three parts of the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths.
DAMN, they really pulled the stops out with the references! Burt Ward cameo, Smallville cameo, Birds of Prey cameo, Kevin Conroy and the BTAS theme, not-quite-Christopher-Reeve!Superman, 1990s!Flash (again!) Wow, they REALLY made an effort, bless 'em.
Spoiler: End of the third episodeOh, an Jon Cryer!Lex Luthor is just the ABSOLUTE, complete little [poop] and I love it.
He's GREAT, he really is.
When he showed up in last season's Supergirl when I saw him - bearing in mind Lex is pretty indelibly DCAU!Clancy Brown!Lex - and for half-a-second I was like "o...kay, not what I would have expec-" and then he said his first line and I was like "OHHH, Snap! FRACK, YES!!! Perfect!" And he stole every scene he was in since. Beautiful, it is. Made up for the whole front half of the season being the whole way-to-heavy-handed racism-analogue thing.

On the plus side £3 will get you a sandwich, crisps, and a bottle of pop at most supermarkets, so you could comfort eat? Sorry.
Also I need to up my spot check, apparently some kind of assault vehicle entered the thread when I wasn't looking. Probably distracted by German Mario.
