Eh, it's complex. Giving critique is a skill, and if you think you've put a lot of effort into something criticism can hurt. And it doesn't help that the amount of effort you put into something is completely unrelated to how good it is, and too much can actually harm it.

While I don't agree with it there's a view that any negative comments should be sandwiched between positive comments. My personal view is to give suggestions for improvement alongside critique, in an attempt to kindle a desire for improvement, but it's debatable I'd they works at all.

Just saying, the problem could lie as much with you not saying it right as it does them taking it poorly

But what about honesty? If I want to watch a movie that a friend makes from scratch and if the movie is bad. I'll tell my friend the truth that the movie is bad. After all, I'm a movie critic.

You have received criticism for some ideas you've had on this site. Have you always reacted positively to such criticism, even when it was constructive?

But there are appropriate and inappropriate ways to say something is bad.

Telling your friend "here's what I think doesn't work, and some ideas that might make it work better." Is constructive criticism.

Just calling the movie bad, or criticizing bits of it without actually offering any sort of fix, or back and forth, verges on being a bully. As an example, I'd sure be a big old jerk if I went into every movie review you did and just called it bad, wouldn't I?

And lastly, if somebody isn't looking for criticism, don't give it. Sometimes people don't want their stuff to be criticized, and that's their right. Sometimes people just want to share a thing they made and have a bit of joy in having created it.

I've noticed that Bartmanhomer can read posts in an unusual way. I wouldn't be surprised if he's just somehow literally not viewed the fantasy epic length reams of critique as critique.

That was actually an attempt at a joke, since the specific 500 count is only regarding paper and in all other uses it simply means "a large amount".

Yes. That true. There was a time on this forum that I give a horrible honest review of a Marvel movie that I really dislike. So horrible that so many members was carrying pitchforks and torches trying to chase me out of town. It was the Avengers: Infinity War movie.

IIRC, it wasn't that the review was horribly honest, it was that the review was very generic and subjective, even as reviews go.
