    Default [3.5] Horse Domain / Vermin Domain

    I've search pretty extensivley, and have not been able to find an official 3.0/3.5 Horse/Equine domain.

    Does such as thing exist, maybe buried in a Dragon mag? I've found a home-brew option, and might have seen a PF one, but can't find it now.

    8. Peerless Charge. 10 horses / level are protected from harm during a charge.
    9. Chariot of Sustarre. Creates a chariot of fire and light to transport people across the sky.


    This is my current home-brewed version:

    Horse Domain

    Granted Power (Ex): Horse Whisperer - this works the same as a druid's Wild Empathy class feature, but only works on equines. Use your cleric level instead of druid level to determine the check result. If you have Wild Empathy from another class, your cleric levels and levels in that class stack when using Wild Empathy, but only for equines. At the DMs discretion, this ability may also be used on equine-like magical beasts with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2 (such as a branta), but you take a -4 penalty on the check.
    Add Handle Animal and Ride to your list of cleric class skills.

    1 Traveler's Mount
    2 Regal Procession
    3 Favor of Yathaghera
    4 When Two Become One
    5 Spiritual Cavalry
    6 Mass Horse's Strength (as Mass Bull's Strength)
    7 Animal Shapes (equine forms only)
    8 Phantom Steed, Mass (as Phantom steed, but summons one steed per two caster levels, to a maximum of ten)

    Also, is there a Vermin domain out there anywhere? Closest I can find is the Spider domain. The PF options I've looked at aren't ideal for my game.

    Does this look OK for a home-brew version:

    Vermin Domain

    Granted Power (Su): Rebuke or command vermin as an evil Cleric rebukes or commands undead. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.

    1 Summon Swarm (vermin only)
    2 Dominate Vermin
    3 Wall of Vermin
    4 Giant Vermin
    5 Armored Vermin
    6 Insect Plague
    7 Awaken Vermin (as awaken, but vermin only - see details in the Master of Flies prestige class)
    8 Summon Monster VIII (celestial or fiendish vermin only)
    9 Shapechange (vermin forms only)


    Doom Scarabs and Scorpion Tail would also fit, but having trouble getting them in there.

    For the Domain granted power on Equines, I'd have it put Handle Animal and Ride on your class skill list and grant you the wild empathy class feature (as a druid of your effective cleric level/stacks with actual druid levels).

    Spells on both lists look fine.

    There is an additional Druid ACF like thing

    The Siyal Marrain (Horse Watchers) from the web:http://archive.wizards.com/default.a...ebds/20051114a

    Druids of the Siyal Marrain cannot take any of the sect feats (Ashbound, Child of Winter, Gatekeeper Initiate, Greensinger Initiate, or Warden Initiate) presented in the Eberron Campaign Setting. However, a Siyal druid does gain access to three additional spells, which are added to the druid spell list at the indicated level: 1st-level -- mount; 3rd-level -- phantom steed; 4th-level -- spirit steed. The druid loses access to these spells if she abandons the traditions of her people.

    So...Must be elf, trade ability to take sect feats for spells

    To the best of my knowledge there isn't an official Horse domain for Pathfinder, so whatever you saw was likely homebrew. There is a Plains domain with a few quasi-relevant spells you might be able to adapt.

    You might also look at the Animal Lord prestige class from Masters of the Wild, which includes options for the clunkily named "Equinelord." Those options plus the main features for the PrC might give you some ideas if you're working up something of your own.

    you could sub this spell for one of the horse domain spells

    When Two Become One - Oriental Adventures (Shugenja 3) - As a joint creature, you and your horse share all your skills, feats, and abilities. Horses have Listen and Spot as class skills.

    See Champions of Valor pg 153-7 for more horse breeds

    I don't have this source to check, but apparently there's a third-party book called "Bard's Gate" that has a Vermin domain.

    Also, I'm really surprised they don't have something for Vermin in one of the Drow-themed books (Underdark, Drow of the Underdark).

    For the vermin domain the closest I'm aware of are the Spider Domain and the Pestilence Domain (Spell Compendium 278)
    π = 4
    Consider a 5' radius blast: this affects 4 squares which have a circumference of 40' — Actually it's worse than that.

    OK, so these are the spells I've been looking at for my own home-brewed Horse domain:

    1 Mount / Ride of The Valenar / Sticky Saddle / Traveler's Mount
    2 Alicorn Lance / Horse's Nose / Leap Into Animal (equines only) / Train Animal (equines only)
    3 Bottle of Smoke / Favor of Yathaghera / Melf's Unicorn Arrow / Phantom Steed / Regal Procession / Spiritual Charger / Unicorn Horn / When Two Become One
    4 Ethereal Mount / Leomund's Spacious Carriage/ Spirit Steed
    5 Spiritual Cavalry / Unicorn Blood
    6 Valiant Steed (?) Mass Horse's Strength (as Mass Bull's Strength)
    7 Unicorn Heart
    8 Animal Shapes (equines only)
    9 Nature's Avatar (equines only)

    I've avoided spells that specifically only work on a Paladin's special mount or similar.

    Valiant Steed is a Sanctified spell, so not sure it should be in a domain? Also, Call Nightmare is a little too Evil specific, so I left it off.

    I'd be happy with alternate suggestions, especially for 6th and 7th level.

    For the domain power, adding Ride and Handle Animal to your Cleric skill list seems good. Maybe allowing Cleric levels to stack with levels in a class that gives a special mount? But a lot of special mounts aren't equines...

    While you have got 4th level spells on lock, I would like to suggest the Spell Compendiums: Wind at the Back, a 4th level druid spell that doubles overland movement speed of upto your caster level targets, it specifically calls out mounts and pack animals as targets.

    As for 7th level, perhaps reducing Animal Shapes to that level is best? That's where the spell resides in the Animal Domain as well, not to mention the Equine Only restriction. As for 6th, Cloudwalkers is from the spell compendium, but appears on the Windstorm Domain at level 6, it's basically mass Fly, but good for a team of mounts?

    As for domain granted ability, in addition to ride and handle animal, they can use Horse Whispering, in essence Wild Empathy, but only works on Equines.

    I'm really torn between Favor of Yathaghera and When Two Become One for 3rd level - not to mention I would've liked Phantom Steed in there. Maybe bump Leomund's Spacious Carriage off the list, and make one of those (FoY or WTBO) 4th?

    Fair point on Animal Shapes, maybe I'll push it back to 7th.

    How about Phantom Steed, Mass for 8th? As Phantom Steed, but mutiple steeds, maybe one/2 or 3 caster levels? Would that be OK for 8th?

    I'm away from my notes at the moment, but I have a full breakdown of all things equine in my quest to find a truly Iconic mount. Short version: I find the Warbeast template a blessing and a curse at times.

    And FWIW, I hate that Legendary animals have the animal type...they should have been magical beasts, IMHO.

    Yup, that's the full list of them, I have stat comparisons and notes on each. It's actually amazingly disappointing that there are no other resources for Horses outside of Champions of Valor.

    I'll elaborate further when I make up the thread, but there's lots of feats and features to get unique mounts, but for someone who simply wants to own a horse, or even a humble pony (much respect to Bill), Equines are unfortunately left in the dirt, despite being a big part of the Knight imagery. Power creep is a pain, here's a free "fun" fact: Only Valenar Horses, Dire Horses, and the Legendary Horse have HD advancements available to them. MM standard horses, do not.
