Use metamagic through another caster?

What might the ramifications be if I were to allow Sorcerers to use their metamagic through another caster?

Say one player who is a Sorcerer, were to grants a Cleric "Subtle" spell using his Sorcery points?

Would this be OP or functionally irrelevant?

I thought about something like this for a homebrew contest a month or few ago, and ran into the issue that this requires there to be another caster in the party to really make the class features work. Admittedly, the design I was using called for a wizard, specifically, so maybe broadening it to any other caster would suffice; I think having a party with just one full caster is highly unlikely.

On the one hand, it would be a significant power boost.

On the other hand, it encourages the party to work together and coordinate, and that's fun.

The rules are in the service of fun, not the other way around, and so mechanics that reward party cooperation are good.

It would definitely give the Sorcerer more of an identity, and help them step away from the shadow of the Wizard. Though I'd also give them something to give to Martials for variation's sake.

I will test the idea, not as a subclass but as an innate option for metamagic, I'll let you know how it goes
