    ((Wait, the first roll was against the first spider’s Poison, since it crit-hit Berserker. I forgot to roll against the Swarm’s poison: (1d20+4)[18]))

    ((So Berserker failed the regular spider’s poison but resists the nausea and swarm poison.))

    Okay, so.
    Berserker is poisoned and has taken 1 Str damage.
    Ssrask has resisted everything so far.

    There are 8 spiders plus the swarm.



    Berserker manages to burn some of the spiders with his torch, bur Iriander can't seem to harm the squirming mass.

    Tiny flashes of pale blue energy strike the surrounding spiders as Ssrask's aura freezes them.

    Ssrask hisses in pain as the swarming spiders are able to bypass his newly grown armor plates to inflict their damage. I can't do anything else but endure!

    He hoped these were the last few, he was growing desperate to use his healing aura, but knew if the threat wasn't dead, they'd continue to whittle away at the team.

    Through the combined efforts of the group, enough members of the swarm are destroyed by fire and ice that it breaks up. The last few remaining spiders freeze to death from Ssrask's aura as they attempt to flee.

    Berserker takes another 1 Str damage and is nauseated.

    Ash snaps at the spider attacking Iriander and quickly spits out the resultant mush with a slight whimper.

    The two remaining spiders attacking Berserker also freeze solid and die from Ssrask's aura.

    Note that the Experience has been divided based on the number of players in the party, as standard. I was not applying this division earlier, because I wanted players to level rapidly through the first couple of levels. Any character with an ECL of 3 or higher will receive only their portion of the XP gains when in a party, as normal for D&D rules.

    Berserker suffers no additional Str damage from the poison.

    Anyone injured is restored to a max of 1/2 max hit points by the healing aura. No threats make themselves known for at least that long.

    Ssrask comes back to and looks at the new notification. He accepted the quest, although it seemed like they were quite a ways through it. Checking the quest log, he looked to see if it gave him any credit from the previously killed spiders.

    "I'm good to proceed on with the burning and clearing when you are."

    With that, he pushed his cold aura outward once more.

    With the sheer number of spiders you've seen, you're aware that it would take only a couple of days... maybe only a few hours, to completely web this much. When you count all the "normal" spiders you've seen and factor in the ones you've surely missed, there must be thousands of spiders around.



    You recall from your experience playing the game that there were a few monstrous spider spawns in one part of the forest and that if enough were killed in a short enough period of time, the game would spawn a miniboss. This miniboss was often the first boss monster that many new players fought. Even though there wasn't an official quest related to the spiders, the experience gain was good enough that they were frequently used for grinding.

    You're fairly confident that, if you keep up your current pace, when you complete the kill count for your quest, you'll have killed enough spiders to spawn the miniboss...


    The tree is heavily webbed, making it quite difficult to see the tree itself. It seems to be dying under the weight of all the web, but it's still healthy enough that it doesn't appear to have been webbed for too long.

    Iriander frowns at the dying tree. "This area seems to be a monstrous spider spawn; well, obviously, I guess. Once we kill enough spiders--I think two more Tiny, and seven more Small--we'll spawn a miniboss."

    As he explains, Iriander burns away the webbing on the tree, at least enough to see the bark and type of tree it is.

    As he does, he mutters under his breath, "Wonder what the odds are the miniboss' name is Aragog."

    "Oh, I know that one. Lord of the Rings, right?" The man that was now a lizard folk felt a tinge of strangeness. He had completely thrown himself into character, almost forgetting about his life prior to this body. When someone brought up things from the outside world, it stirred something inside. Not longing, more like regret maybe.

    He shook away the feelings. "So, we've pretty much taken a straight line into the center. To make the most effective further contact, we should have to work our way back out in a spiral pattern."

    Iriander turns to the lizard man and blinks. "What? No, man, Harry Potter. Lord of the Rings would be Shelob, and she lives in a mountain, not a forest. What kinda geek are you?" he finishes with a friendly chuckle. He can feel more panic rise at the memory of the outside world, furious questions rising to the top of his mind like bubbles in boiling water, but he shoves it down again.

    He almost visibly gets back into character. "Sounds like a plan. Here, Berserker, take the other torch." Iriander and Berserker start clearing the webbing away around the tree in a circular pattern, starting from the base of the tree and working their way out. It's mostly Iriander, as Berserker is still keeping one eye on the treetops, but hopefully it helps clear away the webbing faster.

    As you start to burn the webbing away from the tree, you note that there are striations of a putrid green growing upward from the base of the tree, something "infecting" the tree through its own vascular tissue.

    You burn away a bit more webbing, revealing a disturbingly large spider leg, which twitches ominously as the fire gets near it.

    Inspect the leg. Knowledge (Nature) on types of spiders, or other creatures like spiders, that can become this large: (1d20+8)[20]. Also hopefully it helps get more info from the Inspect? Also also the knowledge check includes whether he knows anything that can cause this corruption.
