As long as one tree survives, the seal will hold; however, each tree that dies weakens the seal considerably. Judging by your quest status, two trees have already died and will eventually need to be replaced to restore the seal.

You don't know anything about this. It's not an event that happened in the game, nor is it reflected in any recent bardic tales.

Iriander takes another moment to orient himself, then to try and create a mental map of where the circle of trees may be, given the trees they've seen already.

With a wince of anticipation, he says, "Forgive me if I'm being impertinent, but is there any help you can give us, Teacher? I mean, Ssrask and I are bumbling neophytes compared to you."

"I will be working with Mother to ensure that the seal does not fail prematurely. With even one tree destroyed, the seal could break. Your job is to keep it from breaking entirely. I'll be making sure you have the time to do that."

Iriander nods. "Gotcha, gotcha. Before we head out, though, I don't suppose you have any group healing spells readied today? Ssrask has an aura that can heal us, but only up to half-health." He gives another sheepishly apologetic look, but hey--it's life or death, here, and healing is healing.

[Rizban]

Faelyn casts Cure Light Wounds on each of you until you're back to full health.

Iriander places his hand over his heart and bows low. "Thank you, Teacher," he says with gratitude.

To Ssrask, he asks, "So, since this is a timed thing, do you think we should split up? It may let us get to at least one of them before they die."

[Deadguy]

"I’m fine with splitting up if you think you can handle a full tree spawn solo."

Ssrask was confident he could clear one himself if the game didn’t further adjust their tactics and difficulty.

Thinking about it, Iriander sighs in frustration. "If I had my second level Druid spells, I think I could. As it is, I hate to say it'd be up in the air whether I could solo them. So, unless you've got anything else to do, let's head for the next one."

[Deadguy]

"Yes, no time to waste."

Ssrask dipped his head toward the elf before turned to head back. Knowing the trees should be relatively evenly space would make finding the much easier, since two locations were known.

Speaking of time to waste, with all the traveling back and forth and fighting and looting and such, you've spent the majority of the day already, and evening approaches.

Iriander blinks in confusion, seeming to only realize the time now. ”Wow, it feels like the day just started,” he says in confusion. Hopefully they can do more than just one tree per day going forward.

“Probably best not to fight spiders in any kind of darkness. Meet back here at first light?” he asks Ssrask. At least now he’ll be able to get his Druid spells.

The dragonkin glanced up at the sky, noting the Sun dipping low. In his normal life he would have been loathe to go into the woods at night. This body was different. He was a hunter, a predator, the feral patron had blessed him with the ability to survive in the harshest environment. Night was nothing to fear.

He turned to his parter to see how resolute he was. "Can you be effective in the dark? If not, I will press the attack myself."

Regarding the draconic man with his own resolve, Iriander only takes a moment to think before he shakes his head. ”The forest at night is not something I take lightly. I lack darkvision, and the forest canopy makes it unlikely my low-light vision will have any light to gain purchase on. Even if I’ll come back from death, I will not risk Ash on a nighttime excursion.

“But once the morning comes, I will attempt to tackle a tree without your aid. Fingers crossed neither of us stumbles across a boss tree.”

Ssrask nodded in understanding. Already forming bonds with NPC and class companions. He might have done the same if that had been his selected path. As it was now, his goal was to become an apex. To push out these weaker predators and claim territory. To fight and feed and grow stronger.

He left the glade and headed into the forest again, back to the spider infestations to find the next sacred tree.
